we loved Ella too but couldnt imagine a 30 year old being called Ella - hence Gabriella....and Ella is sooo popular - like number 2 on list of names...
there are loads of names ending in Ella you could choose and shorten...Gabriella gets called Ella, Bella and Gaby / Gabbie...and i would let u use name of course too....LOL!!!
also Elle - Hailstones called her bubba Elle and that is also pretty - and again plenty of names end in Elle (including mine and my mums - hence how we kinda chose Gabriella)
have fun choosing names....there are so many....

I found the girls names hard as well....we too had a boys name but no girls (I was sure she was a he).
I LOVED Ella or Bella, but our golden Lab is called Stella, and it would've caused a bit of confusion (probably for both of them). I also love Lilly - But my best friend's name is Lil (well its her nickname really but I have always used it) and I have 2 friends with wee Lilly's.
Other names I liked were......
Isobelle
Greer
Madilene ( but maybe not so good with Madison )
Jorja
Samantha / Sam
Briony (not sure of spelling)

Hey! I think it's a very pretty name! I can think of worse names for a 30 year old to be called!!
We chose it before we heard of how popular it was, we named her when I was 4 months pregnant (before we found out she was a girl, I just knew that she was). After she was born and I found out just how popular the name was, I considered changing it! lol.. but didn't

We are using Rose as a second name but I think it would make a lovely first name....only reason we arent is that the 2 names we have chosen work better if Rose is 2nd.

We are only at the early stages of pregnancy but we are finding it fun choosing possible girl and boy baby names.
I have always loved Madison but I have lots of others on my list.
And Jacob for a boy. Because Jay or Jake sound nice for a nickname.

Well I love the name Cassidy for a girl, & would've had it with this one, if it's a girl. DH doesn't like it, even as a 2nd name... so you're welcome to it, if you like it .
I like that it can be shortened to Cass or Cassie & think it sounds pretty & feminine.

Great name choice!!! I am named Briony!!! It is a really uncommon name... I have only ever met three other people with this name (and I am 30...). The only downside is some people dont pronounce it correctly.... They say "breeooony" Not "brian-e".

I think I've decided on Arabella, and I know I will have mixed reactions about that one. Thats a good point about how it sounds on them when there older. Maybe I can test the name out on my mum - give her a name badge hehehe

Oooh thanks for the heads-up on how to pronounce Briony - I had it wrong all along! Pretty name. I'm on the Ella is a great name no matter what age, bandwagon!! (obviously! )
I also love Lily, Olivia, Kaitlyn, Rose, Trieste (pronounced like "dressed" but with a 'tr'), Sienna, Genevive, and the name no-one agrees with me on... Lee-Lee! I know, I won't actually name a child that. But probably simply because DH won't allow it! Oh, and the biblical name Dorcas.
I'm kidding about Dorcas. That name just cracks me up though!!

I read a lot of historical fiction so my faves. Are Catherine, Hannah, Sarah, James, John, Alexander I like Sinead but DF doesn't reminds him of Sinead O'Connor.
Ella is a lovely name, and by the time she's 30 they'll be lots of them.
Arabella is nice, I hate Annabelle sounds like a name for a cow.

Can I just butt in and say how lovely it is to see really nice, well thought out names here - nothing with stupid spelling or trying to be 'too cool' by mucking about with names. You have all obviously thought of your children as adults with their names, something I don't see much in the classroom at times...

We chose Jacob's name cos I liked the Jay and Jake if it was shortened.
For girls we had Gabriella (charly was called this for about 5 mins) and Jaimee for back ups. Went off Jaimee though as we would be forever spelling it, and telling people she was a girl in the beginning, despite pink clothes. I really wanted Hannah, Anna or Georgia, but DH vetoed them all.
We toyed with Greer, Briar, Blaire ( I see a pattern...)

Ha, If Paris had been a boy she would have been probably a bailey or Xander funnily enough.. (lucky she wasn't aye, otherwise there would have been a mix up at Xander's partys!), Ayja was going to be Leo if she was a boy, i also liked Issac and we were toying with the idea of Sage. (my little sister named her boys Bailey and Issac).
Other names i liked for girls..
Veda(like off my girl)
Jasmine
Eden (have heard of a boy called this and it's really kewl)
Opal
Coral
Tamsyn
I too also like Lilly and Chloe, also mike liked Angel.. for a boy or girl, and Sage can be boy or girl too.
We chose names that couldn't be shortened, no nicknames etc.. some people like to choose names that have nicknames or pet names that can come from them.. we instead wanted our kids to be called by their actual names. (although most of you will have heard Paris calling Ayja "Ayja-Bear" the other day..lol it used to be "Ayja-baby")
I can see Paris when she's older.. being the big boss, lol.. very snoooooty and proper. ha ha, And Ayja i can also see as a 30-something too.. i get get what is meant by having names that carry well into adulthood, sometimes you just think "what will that kid go thru as an adult?"

Jaimee's another one I like too Annie, but for the same reason as you I find it difficult for spelling as well as gender mix-ups
My mum chose names for us girls that couldn't be shortened (or wouldn't usually be): Teresa Sylvia Melissa... somehow we managed to get Syl and Lissa though

Haleigh was going to be Isobella or Isobel but DF wasn't sure about it then (now he likes the names lol), so I named her Haleigh Isobel (Isobel is my nanas name and if I change spelling to Isabel it my great nanas name).
I also like the names Abigail, Rose, Kate, Caitlyn.

my friend called her baby arabella, it reminded me instantly of the lady on my daughters fairy videos with a really anoying voice.
its funny how names make you think of certian things or remind you of someone ( sometimes not good)
we get childrem with really bazar names in at my work, sometimes you feel sorry for the harasment for them eg: lightning storm . . . . . . and pixie rainbow
my daughter was going to be named jasmine, but i for some reason changed it the instant she was born to sarah, and now i couldnt imagine her being called jasmine.

I have a friend with the name Siobhan - such a nice way to spell Shavaughn I think.
We've got Ava for a girl. Have had it since I was about 14 and I'm not changing now! I like Xanthe too, but I want a good strong name that she can use when she's older too (not that you can't use Xanthe, I love it, I just like Ava for our last name more - Xanthe doesn't go with our W last name very well).

Mum named us all names that couldn't be shortened too (Emma, JOhn, Claire and Paul) and she gets really feisty when she hears people calling me Em or Ems. Which is funny coz it doesn't bother me lol.
I've definitely used up my quota of girls names on the gremlins, I didn't really like Mercedes to start with and my sister reckons it's a stripper name, but it grew on me and now I think it suits my little Sadie-baby. Most of you know the story behind Sienna's name, I 'stole' it off someone else coz of course you can 'own' names . And Maya was Maya from very early on after Maya Angelou.
I love Mercedes middle name, Kailah, too, my Mum picked it after she saw it on a waitresses name tag once.
I also like Gabrielle/a, Luca (for a girl), Ava, Shyla and Kayla. And Xanthesmum, I thihk your two girls have beautiful names.
