Hi ladies,
My Midwife mentioned Cord bank again today...I am wondering what you guys think of it?
I am confused...I mean it is expensive to collect and to store, and they only store it for 17 years...I wonder if it is useful?

Cord blood is kept for emergency things like if your baby needs a blood transfusion or something similar. One of my friends son's got leukemia at 11 and luckily my friend Bridgette had kept her other son's cord blood, so they were able to use that for his treatment.
Not 100% how it works but its for that kind of thing.

thats strange - i thought in nz you could only use the cord blood stored for the child it was taken from. it might pay if you were looking into it checking out the legislation connected with its use etc.

Yes, I think you are correct GSMUM.
They can’t use the stored blood for next baby. You have to do them separately and store them separately.
I am planning to have my second with in 2 years so I don’t think I can afford this service. I pray and hope that I won’t regret it later.

Yeah Bridgette lives in America. So I guess the rules are different there.
