I have no idea what section to post this in!! Anyway, it is Ashleigh's first birthday in a month and I'm trying to decide what kind of cake to make her. I am not very creative at all though. SO I thought maybe you could show me a pic of your kids 1st birthday cakes and I was also wondering if anyone could recommend anywhere to hire cake tins in either Waikato or southish Auckland. How about cupcakes packed in a shape of a one? That way each kiddy or adult can have their own cake. Then you can make a bit of a smaller cake just for bubs to dive in. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Here's what I did for Briona. Her eyes were so big at the marshmallows! 1yos aren't that keen on cake, only the toppings. So I went for yummy (and pink) topping!!

heres maddys one i got the cake tin from the local lollie shop and it came with all the instructions and how to do the yummy iceing to and i just got the pipeing bag for the iceing from the $2 shop.

You can get cake tins for hire at BJ's Cake decor and Five Cross Roads Cake Kitchen in Hamilton and not very expensive either. But if you're not a confident cake bake/decorator maybe ask a friend/aunty/mum to help or check out what the local supermarket bakery can do. My neighbour did a wicked one ...she bought a dolly (Barbie), and made a big dome shaped cake (really easy! Just do a big cake, or a couple of cakes so that you can get the height, freeze them, then cut the shape while they're frozen ...makes it HEAPS easier!) and shoved the dolly into the top, so it looked like a dolly with a gorgeous big skirt. Does that make sense? And obviously, just decorate the skirt however you want! How about a butterfly shaped cake (you could buy sponge cakes from the supermarket then just cut and make into shape) then use pebbles to make bright patterns for the wings

I knew you guys would be full of bright ideas! And I've also checked out Baalamb's thread which is great too
I know she doesn't need anything fancy (I definately wouldn't be able to create anything as clever as Janine!) but I do want to make something myself for her even if it does turn out crap! And she probably won't eat any anyway (she is only just starting out with finger foods and still eating mush most of the time!!) Anna thanks for offering to help!
