I was hanging out with gandt and maya this morning at Ark Cafe, and moaning about how I want to go to the zoo (the Auckland Zoo, that is), and the brilliant gandt had a brainwave -- why don't we MB mums (and dads!) bring our babies and meet up there? (Remember, under 4's are free!)
So -- does a weekday or weekend work better for you? Put in your two cents, and after you've weighed in, I'll organise a day and time somewhere around the beginning of June.

Weekend would be better for us as I think Maya will enjoy it more than the gremlins and she's at preschool during the week, but we can do weekdays as well.
Last time we went Maya cried coz I told the lady at the gate she was only three so I didn't have to pay

Shall we meet bright and early at 10am under the elephant at the front entrance? The zoo opens at 9.30 and if we get there early enough, we'll get decent parking (as it seems to fill up quite fast!). Unfortunately, the group booking rate is for groups of 15 or more adults and has to be paid all in one go (not individually), so is a bit of a no-go for us. The group rate only gets you $1 off admission per person anyway, so no great savings. Here's a link to the admission price page on their website:
http://www.aucklandzoo.co.nz/information/index.php?PHPSESSID=7ad3135fc729c616d52d7b2c5faca3c7#group - http://www.aucklandzoo.co.nz/information/index.php?PHPSESSID=7ad3135fc729c616d52d7b2c5faca3c7#group
Generally, kids under 4 are free, adults are $18, kids 4-15 are $9, and there are family rates (look on the page for all the options).

Not 100% sure if I can come now - DH decided to enter a squash tournament for this weekend, and we don't yet know if there will be any games for him on Sunday
As for admission, I have a Friends of the Zoo pass anyway
|
Posted By: Katherine
Date Posted: 18 June 2007 at 4:44pm
I figured a couple of us have zoo passes so the group thing might not happen anyway, but admission isn't *too* bad (not compared to Kelly Tarlton's, anyway!). I'll be there no matter what and will put some OHbaby! balloons on Emma Rose's stroller so you know who to look for. I think the plan is that we'll all meet up to start, then go off and see the zoo on our own or in small groups for a bit, then maybe meet up for morning tea at one of the restaurants around 11.30, then I heard a rumour there's an elephant encounter of some kind at noon, so that could be our last activity together? Just suggestions! :)

We're still coming! Working on the master of the house to try and get him along too, but he is terminally suspicious of anything that involves a) pakeha and b) no alcohol so he'll probably stay home by his lonely self (and enjoy the peace and quiet).

If we were able to still come, I would have to work on my patience and resolve to cope with the grumpy / whingy demon child from hell - she normally naps from 9:30-11:15am ish, and I can't guarantee a sleep in the car or pram. We will see how we go with this squash tournament stuff of DH's anyway, and hope that he doesn't end up in any Sunday games !

I might have to dig out the raincover for the pram... I wonder if they'll give us a refund if all the animals are hiding in their habitats where we can't see them? I have to say, shovelling elephant doody in the rain would *not* be my ideal job. Poor zookeepers...

What about Kelly Tarlton perhaps if weather is bad?

I think if te weathers bad we should go somewhere else, especially since Kellz has stayed up all week just to come play with us!
Kelly Tarltons is fine by us, but is a lot more $$$, don't know what others think. Otherwise a Chipmunks/Lollipops maybe?

Kelly Tarlton's would be out, waaaaaay too $$ at this stage - Erin would probably enjoy it more when she is older. Again, if DH doesn't have squash and I can commandeer the car (or it is a weekday), Chipmunks / Lollipops would be neat ! (Just in case of cancellation that is...)

Oh darn I hope we don't cancel the day!!! It's my eldests 2nd birthday next week so really wanted to go somewhere for a treat for him :) Kelly Tartons is way out of the question though LOL but as long as he's out of the house and having fun that's what counts :)

Just let me know what place it will be then and how do we decide if it will be zoo or another place?
Perhaps a chain sms or something? Or a notice in the morning on the forum or something? aaah bugger hope the weather is really really nice however.

Emma has suggested Lollipops Ellerslie if the weather is bad enough that we need to change the venue. So that will be our backup plan! We'll decide by 9am tomorrow and post a notice in this forum if there's a change. If you don't see a notice, we're still going to the zoo! Also, if you want to PM me your mobile details, I can txt you at 9am to let you know if things change (again, if you don't hear from me, we're going to the zoo). Send me your mobile number by 9pm tonight if you want to be on the txt list!

No seems it was a freaking excuse. We have a friend that is staying over until he finds his feet (wife back in SA yet and will be for another 18 months, so he is like totally useless now)
Anyway he wanted to go to Kelly Tarlton since he arrived and wanted to go this weekend if weather is bad. So hubby said he is not feeling up. Blah blah blah. Well tonight he says he is not feeling well to go out with weather plus not good as bubs is still recovering. (valid excuse) but we can go to Kelly Tarlton. Not that happy wife this side.
Off course I want to go there as well but he knew what was planned this month already.
So have to give it a skip this time around. Sorry guys.
