Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone knows of any play or coffee groups in Wellington (or even of anything to do for littlies), we are quite new to the area and have been to a Plunket group once but they only meet up once every three months or so so not much help.

Hi skirts! Try the "Wellington Babies" group at yahoo.co.au, we are trying to get together more often. Although, IO think you might already be a member?? (It is Ana here) otherwise have a look on www.everybody.co.nz, there are HEAPS of boards there with groups that meet up.
Good luck! I know the feeling, we have been here for 2 months now and still haven't really made many friends... Where in Welly do you live?

Ooooo If you guys start a coffee group can I join in?
Plunket were meant to ring m about a PIN (?) group but they never have
Haven't really done the coffee group thing and as I am quite young I don't really know many other mums.
I'm living in Kelburn/CBD but have a car so am keen to go anywhere!

hey guys, just had a thought, theres three of us here already, how about we start a group and then could let others know and if they want to join they can too?
Just an idea, if your keen let me know how often you'd wanna meet and what days/times etc, or we could just make them casual and post on here the next one etc

Sounds good! I would suggest signing up to the Wellington Babies group though too, lovely girls and I have met them a few times.
I am free pretty much every day as I am still waiting for the baby but can't drive as I haven't learnt yet... So if we met in town it would be good for me, although you are more than welcome to come to my place too! If we do meet up I could ask a few others to come along?

hey Ana, I can't drive either.....I just can't steer. I even practice on the playstation....just the thouight of all those other cars on the road. So no need to be ashamed!!
|

That makes me feel better, lol, I can drive, it just freaks me out so I never went for my restricted!! I really do want to learn because it will be annoying not being able to drive when baby arrives! We just bought an automatic car though and that might help a bit, I just find the other cars so scary!!

haha
My steering is the reason I am not going to upgrade my car stereo. If I do then I can guarantee I will crash trying to change the radio station or putting in a CD!
Even though I am female, I seem to be terribly bad at multi tasking in a vehicle!!!!
Ana - Wellington is probably one of the worst places to start driving in. The drivers are nuts!!! Proud to say that I am now one of them!
I've found it hard to adjust to driving back in Rotorua, because although Wellington drivers are a bit strange, most of the time they are considerate and let people merge etc. Whereas here, if you put your indicator on, people decide that is a sign to speed up to not let you in. Makes me so mad!
|
Posted By: newmum
Date Posted: 02 July 2005 at 9:49pm
hahahaha, remind me not to come to Rotorua with my darling hubby, road rage....
I have noticed that the drivers in NZ seem nuts in general compared to Europe! But that is only from a passengers pov and I am sure none of you are nuts drivers...

hey Nikki, Jake was absolutely fine on the flight to thailand. request a baby bassinet and an infant meal. If hannah is like Jake she'll be too heavy for the bassinet, but it guarantees you get the bulkhead seat which has a little room for hannah to crawl around on te floor at least, and less people in front for her to grab the hair of (so very very embarressing)
Also, feed her when you take off and descend. Jake had no problems with his ears but the bubba in front was howling! Good luck!!

Hey guys, Im not going to be able to make the Wellington Babies thing this weekend that Ana mentioned as I have friends down from Auckland. Damn. :-)
Thought we could maybe wait till Nikki is back in Wellington (14th) and organise something for after that maybe the week of the 18th. Will jump back online and post a date soon, let me know if there is any day that week that wouldnt suit. Was thinking first meeting is probably good just to do coffee somewhere kid friendly or at a house, so we can all get to know one another.

Okay, how does Thursday 21 July sound, in the afternoon say around 1 oclock? let me know how that suits everyone.....and also which of the following five would suit them better to meet:
1/ Te Papa (has cafe there)
2/ Chipmunks Tawa (somewhere to play for the littlies at the same time).
3/ Lollipops Wellington City
4/ Lollipops Lower Hutt
5/ Botanic Gardens (play at the playground, then coffee at the cafe or picnic depending on weather)
If anyone has any better ideas let me know as well

I'm easy... I live right by the Botanic Gardens!
And Thurs 21st sounds great. I'll check about the time, but should be good... especially if at Gardens as I'll be at uni before
I'm happy to drive anywhere as well!

Hey everyone, I always get to the playground off Tinakori Road, but then I dont even know where the cable car is so dont listen to me too much :-)
So 1 oclock at the playground sound good to everyone???? Im gonna put a little pink flower toy thing round the handle of my pushchair (cant for the life of me think of anything better, must be the time or something, duh!) so look for that to find us, sure we'll all meet up fine though.
Was thinking if its raining did we want to go somewhere else instead? Cos the gardens arent going to be too fun for the kids if its raining, and the cafe has no play area that I know of. I was thinking the cafe at Te Papa if the weathers dodgy, that has a play area as well, could post on here in the morning a final venue?
Talk soon, oh and tell whoever you want, a few of the mums I've met around Wgtn are keen to come too :-)

Argh bugger. Hannah is booked into creche at 1pm. Maybe I ditch the baby this time and just come myself? (Especially if it is raining and there is coffee involved )
I'll see what happens on Thurs, if it isn't raining then I will bring the kidlet, but if it is then I'll join you all alone. (kinda defeats the purpose of the trip, but I'm sure I can be just as charming as Hannahby!)
Just to let ya know, I wear purpleish glasses and have gross brown hair. Hopefully you'll find me!

Do you guys know what the weather is supposed to be doing tomorrow? And is there only one playground because otherwise I am stuffed, I don't know my way around the botanics at all I was going to come on the cable car and walk from there...

It's quite a trek down the stairs and round a walking track from the cable car. I'm pretty sure there is only one playground... it's down by the main garden on the other side from Kelburn (/cable car)
If it is anything like today then it might be that it's going to rain anyway. Are we going to Te Papa as an alternative? If you need a ride Ana, just give me a text or leave a message on here, telling me where to get ya from.
[My lovely description was to make sure no one is shocked when they see that I haven't cut or coloured my hair since Hannah was born! hehehe]

Hi all,
My number is 021 306 128 if you need to double check, I will put a post on here in the morning as to where abouts it is. If it rains at all or looks dodgy we will change it to meeting at the Cafe at Te Papa, otherwise it will be at the playground at the Botanic Gardens (lets hope for nice weather, yay).
Talk to everyone then, should be a few mums I know coming, if not Im sure we'll still have fun :-)

Ooooo I feel like the evil coffee group time setter.
Don't feel obligated to have it on a Tuesday, it just happens to be the best day for me, but I am available most other days as well!
It was lovely meeting you all! I hope you stick around Ana, too many people disappear once they have the baby. It takes dedication to remain addicted to a message board once you have a screaming demon to attend to!
Maybe we make it fornightly, I'm not sure how often I should be going near the white and dark chocolate brownie!

Hi Jen! Nice to see you online!
Fortnightly sounds good although Kelly won't be able to make it next time probably as she is due in 2 weeks
I will try and stay online Nikki! I just have absolutely NO IDEA what this is going to be like and it gave me a bit of a fright yesterday, lol, thanks for reminding me they don't come out walking etc.
I am happy for meetings to be at my house too (until the baby arrives and I don't clean or tidy for a year, lol)

Fortnightly sounds good to me too. Then we won't miss the next one!
I came online quite a bit when I had Charlotte, mainly to have somekind of adult interaction but also because I was a major hypochondriac and thought that Charlotte had every horrible thing under the sun so was looking up her non existant "symptoms" online all the time. Not to mention harassing the poor ladies on the Plunket line...
Nikki- since you're not mobile where would it be easiest for you for us to have it next time? Probably somewhere in the city again? I know the library has a coffee shop with highchairs and a little play area, although no white and dark choc brownie that I know of
Ana- if it's easier for you I could give you a lift in if you like? Since we live close by and it saves you doing the whole public transport thing again.
Amy might not be on for a bit as she is moving this weekend but she should be on before the following Tuesday.

Jen - I'm sure every mother does it! I was/am the other extreme where I worry about developing Munchausen tendencies, until the time where Hannah developed a chest infection because I didn't take her to the doctor soon enough Now I'm quite open to being paranoid!
Ana - They don't come out walking but even so it goes far too fast for my liking! I come on here mostly to know what to expect next hehehe
Don't mind where it is next time. I am mobile (in my new car! yay! My old one fell to bits [or is about to])

I have a car I just didn't drive it to Te Papa as I don't like funding the council by paying such high parking charges lol. We live in Hataitai so it's easy to catch a bus into town. I usually drive in now though, due to laziness!

oooooo I'm so excited for you!
I think by your stage I was looking forward to it, then two weeks later I went in to denial, then three weeks after that I shifted in to anxiety mode.
Don't worry Ana, while the birth isn't the most fun time of all, you get to look forward to having a cute kidlet and going shopping for skinny people clothes again!
(I didn't realise how much I wanted to go shopping until I saw a shop after having Hannah and didn't have to avert my eyes from the window displays. It just got too depressing in those last 4 weeks )

Hey everyone, Good to see Jenna and Kat on here, Hi! Love the pics of Ella Kat, shes so adorable!
Oh and hi to Jayde, another newbie.
Move went well and settling in really well, Kelly had her baby today as well, a little girl so next time shes free we can all have cuddles with a new little bubs, yay!
Might be a bit too real for you though Ana, hope alls going well with the pregnancy! And dont worry, you will be fine, they def dont come out walking, but every stage has its different ups and downs! But ultimately its worth it and its amazing how looking at something so beautiful that you created can make you feel!! :-)
Sorry I wont be able to make it out to Staglands on Saturday, would love to come (esp if theres males for incentive, he he) but my dad flew down in the end to help me move as I was really stuck and he heads home on Sat, maybe next time.
As for next tues, whos up for naming a time and place? Any one have any good ideas?

Hey guys, such a bummer we couldnt come today and see you all again, would have loved to have met Hannah Nikki but will have to be next time a.
Just an idea, has anyone been to Tinytown in Kilbernie? Was just trying to think of places for next time, and thought that might be a possibility?
Hopefully summer and I wont be sick by then, its so annoying, my nose cant decide if its blocked or running, argh!

Haven't been to Tinytown, what is it exactly? A tiny town perhaps? Sounds cool. Hannah will be happy anywhere there are big kids! Next time we meet up I can look forward to sending her off to play. Can't wait to be able to drink coffee in peace! hehe

Hey everyone,
Summers all better now, just me with the blocked runny nose, fingers crossed it goes really soon!
Tinytown is at Kilbernie Rec centre, I've heard lots about it but never actually been, it costs for the kiddies but not a lot, and they have lots of activities like ride on toys and stuff. Not sure if its something Hannah would be up for yet Nikki, but still could get the other terrors out of her way, he he.
Was just an idea, I can ring and find out what exactly it is if ya like.

I'm not phased on details. It sounds good! Hannah will be fine anywhere. Though I can guarantee she'll do her best to escape from me and play with the kids. It'll be her fault if she gets run over

LOL, not this time, hahahaha Hannah bit her wickedly on the shoulder, it looked really sore!!
Nikki - Did you get your papers handed in on time?
Amy - I am glad you are both on the mend!
Everyone - I am meeting up with a friend (she has a 10 month old daughter) at Muffin Break (mmmmm, love those darn muffins!), Johnsonville Mall, 2pm on Sunday 7th August (this weekend). You are welcome to join us.

I might be there! I'll let you know via text if I am organised enough.
Ewww hickeys. I don't think so lizzle Just my lovely vampire child.
And no Ana, I didn't get them handed in! hehehe I'm really starting off in a bad way for this semester. Told tutors though and they don't seem to mind. Got two essays due in a week and I'm not sure they'll be as lenient with those

It's 2.09pm on Sunday right now and if I had of read your post Ana about 30 minutes earlier I would have come but now it's abit too late because I'll run about like a mad thing getting organised and by the time I get there you probably would have left! Shame because Darry is off playing golf and I'm bored
If anyone is interested Amy and I are going to Porirua Readings Cinema (the one in the mall) on Wednesday at 10am to see Fantastic Four as they have a 'Spit the Dummy' session. Should be interesting. Just post here or text me or Amy on the day if you decide to meet up with us (mine is 0211437853).

Phew, I am glad you didn't come! We cancelled at the last minute because my friend was ill. I only sent Nikki a text to let her know because she had said she was coming maybe! Lucky for me or you would have been sitting there annoyed!!
Not sure about Wednesday, will let you know.
Are we meeting up next Tuesday? That would be a fortnight since Floriditas! And I am not deciding where to go - give some ideas guys, as I only know childless cafes, lol

Hehe, thats lucky then isnt it Ana :-) Although I would have eventually grabbed something to eat and just enjoyed being out of the house anyway! Ha ha ha
Next week is definately on, the earlier in the afternoon the better for me, what if we say 12 and make it a lunch thing for the kiddies too?
Or we could make it a little later and do the tiny town thing? Or we could always have it at one of our houses, Kellys said hers is an option in Crofton Downs, Im happy to have it at my place too in Tawa.
Let me know what you guys think........

How is Kelly doing?

Hey, Kellys doing so well, I dont know how she does it with two! We went over there the other day so Summer could play with Libby and keep her a little bit occupied to give bubs a break from her big sis!
Everyone is happy to have it at their houses now as well, which sounds great to me as well.
Just thinking if we have it at someones house maybe 1 or something is better timing (or earlier than 12, not sure what time suits Nikki again) than someone having to have us all there for lunch. Hmmm, I dunno, what do you guys think?
Why is this so hard, he he he, hmmmm, maybe cos im not good with making decisions.........

Just to be a pain again... can we say 1pm?
I don't have classes, but Hannah is in creche until 12pm. That way I can feed her lunch before we come! And tire her out before sleep time

Hi again guys.. one day I might meet up with you all again :) You see, my plunket PIN group have also decided that Tues is the best day to meet, but Tues is the only day I get to see my mum as well (her day off work). So maybe once in a blue moon I might be able to come along hehe.. just kidding, I'll try and work something out.

Hey Amy,
Yeah... i think it's at the point where it is laughable. Well... my friends have found it funny!
I'm a bit nervous about contacting Nick but I don't really care what he says/does so it should be alright (Excuse me for sounding like a bit harsh, but I don't have any time for the guy)
Crap, just realised I have a WINZ appointment at 3.30 on Tues. I should still be able to fit in a quick visit to see you guys

Hi guys! As you can tell I didn't make it today. I am still way to nervous to take Joey out on public transport on my own, really have to get that drivers liscence!!
Just wanted to suggest we have the next meeting at my place on the 13th?? I sent Amy a text message about it. Let me know!
Hope you had fun today!
Happy Birthday Amy!

hey Ana,
Wasn't the same without ya! And we needed someone to help us eat all the food!!! Kat made a cake and ohhh myyy godddd it was good.
Fair enough about the public transport thing. Although I must say it is probably even scarier driving yourself around with the baby, I was paranoid for ages!!!
Sounds good for the 13th. We won't mind if you have to cancel either, we all know how unpredictable newborns are!
Hope you guys are doing well. Looking forward to meeting Joey at some stage
