I think we've had a thread similar to this before, but I just realised I have some crazy fears.

1. When coming to a traffic light intersection and I have a green light, I'm really paranoid that an ambulance/fire truck/police car is going to come blaring down the street with it's lights and sirens on and smack straight into me from where they would have had to stop at red lights. (make sense?!)

2. I love singing in my car to whatevers on the radio. I'm paranoid that somehow, my cellphone in my bag has leant on something and dialled a number for some random person and they're listening to me sing.

I feel so silly admitting those! Add yours...

Whenever I straighten my hair I am paranoid for ages after that I've left the straightener on and its going to burn the house down, despite the fact its got an auto shutoff timer.

I often panic when I've left the house in a hurry that I've gone out in my pyjama pants or something equally embarrassing

There are heaps more! just need time to remember them

Oh wait, that isn't irrational.

But even when it is irrational (ie on injection) I still worry.

My biggest fear is spiders. (gets chills thinking about it)

But I also have a fear of hurting people's feelings. I try to make everybody happy even at my own expense.

I'm kinda the same. I would rather speak to the person, in person instead of over the phone! Wonder why that is...

Gosh funny, I far prefer to call someone - actually email is even better - than meet in person. It feels more "safe" to me

I almost feel sick, just thinking about (the possibility of) mice in the house. Absolutely hate it (we had them at one stage when I was a kid). One day my sis rang me at my bf's place (he's now my DH) to tell me that she found a dead one under a pile of stuff just outside our (hers and my) bedroom. He had been squashed flat. I screamed and dropped the phone!!

We had a cat trapped in our garage for 3 days, a couple of months back. Now everytime I see the garage door not properly closed, I always do a quick scan of the place to check there are no more eyes peering out. Ugh. Totally freaked me out when I walked in there that once and found a cat just sitting there, looking at me.

I have a fear of insects (especially flies) flying into my ears at night. I have to sleep with the sheets up over my ears to protect myself, and cannot sleep if I don't! If I'm hot, I have the sheet up over my ears but pushed away from my back (so I'm basically cuddling the sheet)

If I get dive-bombed by a flying insect at night, I freak out! Nat just laughs. He doesn't mind too much because I cuddle into him until I feel better. He's been known to put his hand over my ear until I settle down

Me too I spend so long preparing for the phone call and deciding what and how to say it all, that when I finally call, I get it all mixed up and am a blubbering mess. Would much rather do everything in person.

My main irrational fear is about car accidents. We travel a lot and have to text before I leave and after I get there just in case I've gone off the road and no body knows. DP rides a motorbike daily and that REALLY worries me too.

Mine is:

Driving onto a bridge, then having to wait in a line of cars while the lights are red/the round-about is backed up. It freaks me out that the bridge might fall into the river.

Seriously, I have no idea where that comes from ... have been like it for a number of years now, and the Waikato is a looong way down, so I'd probably die when I hit the water ... god, that's morbid!

My other is when me and James a out walking that when I'm crossing the road someone going to be speeding or not see us and hit the pram that one freaks me out the most.

I thought of a few more.
I'm terribly afraid of birds. I hate hate hate them!
I don't mind them too much if they're high up in trees but if they're near me I freak out.
I also can't stand rats. We've had a couple in this house and luckily DH has been around to deal with them, but I am petrified of a rat or bird visit happening when I am home alone with the kids. I turn into a hyperventilating mess around them.

I'm the same, we live by the Onehunga firestation and I shudder when I hear them coming and I'm in the car or even waiting to cross the road to go home.

My other fear is something happening to me on my way to picking Nyah up from preschool, and hubbie not knowing what bus I caught or which way I went to get her...

I have that intersection fear too, but these days not just emergency vehicles!

My irrational fear is that when I am walking round a shop people think I am stealing things and the store detectives are following me waiting to pounce! (And i don't have anything for them to find of course!)

And when i see a cop, in the car or in person walking around, I always think they are coming for me for wahtever reason, even though I know that I haven't done anythign wrong!

Mine used to be wolves - absolutely TERRIFIED of pictures of them, and this haunted me so much as a kid!  I don't like them now but I'm not haunted by them.  I'm not afraid of mice, spiders, snakes, but I am scared of squashing small creatures, which is why I shake every piece of wood from the woodpile before I bring it inside - I want to free any wee creatures that may be hiding on them.

I have to many to name but I also worry bout store security. I hate walking past those things that go off cos i know security cards etc.. can set them off and everyone will look at me. I wont walk out past them unless someone else is walking at the same time so people think its them.
I hate spiders of any shape or size, have to check room before i can sleep. Hate moths that dive bomb you. Hate being stuck on the inside lane of traffic. I always worry someone is going to break in and get me or my children at night. And i hate eating in front of people

I think it was because of an incident at a snake show. My father explained to us three kids that we shouldnt get to close up as the snakes were getting quite high up and you never know when one of them can get over the open enclosure where they had the show. My brother got a bit bored and decided to throw his pet on me and called snake. I freaked out thinking it was a real snake and started shouting ect.

Some people laughed and my brother got a hiding of his life that day. A few moments later the snake handler asked me if I was okay.

Dont know where the toilet part comes in though.

I also sometimes have this irrational fear of there might be a boogy man under the bed. Then hubby needs to look under the bed.

I get completely paranoid that I've left something switched on in the house when I go out (iron, heater, stove), even if I haven't even used it that day. Or that I haven't actually locked the door. To the point where I will turn the car around and go back home to check. I am so scared of being responsible for our house burning down or getting robbed! Never mind that I forget to close the garage door all the time...

General fears that I consider 'normal' - spiders (HATE them), hieghts and getting hurt/DD getting hurt/DH getting hurt/anyone I love getting hurt.

I'm not reading this thread, just hearing other peoples irrational fears makes me develop them myself

I have far, far too many to list (I tend towards being a little OCD) but just for starters:

I am absolutely, deadly afraid of birds. I refuse to have the windows of the house open more than a crack in case they come inside the house, I can't even walk past a dead one on the ground, and the thought of touching a bird makes my skin crawl and me feel literally ill

If the microwave timer goes off and I don't get to it before the reminder beep a couple of minutes later I think something bad is going to happen. Ditto the cellphone text message/missed call reminder - I've even disabled that function on my phones coz it freaks me out too much.

Before I go to bed at night I have to check the gremlins, check Maya, brush my teeth and take my crazy pills, check Maya then check the gremlins again, check the doors are locked and then go to bed. In that order. If I don't do it in that order, I start all over again.

See, I'm odd. And I don't need to pick up any more irrational fears!

Hehe what a bunch of nutters we are! I can sympathise with almost every fear listed

Especially the toilet snake one and sharks in the pool. Ridiculous as I have never lived anywhere that has snakes.

I always think there are spiders crawling on me- you'll often see me have a little freak out and swat at some random place on my body as I think there is a spider there.

I still can't sleep with a leg or arm hanging out over the side of the bed- just a fear of 'something' under the bed getting said limb.

Whenever I have my period I always get scared my tampon is going to fall out onto the floor in front of someone (yes, even though I am wearing underwear and I have never ever had a tampon fall out).

I hate people dressed up in big animal/charachter suits, or those street performers. I always get scared they're going to be crazy and attack me- when really I'm the crazy one lol!

I worry that if something happened to ben and me how long it would take for someone to realise and poor jack would be alone for all that time.

I hate driving next to rives cos I get scared the cars going to roll upside in the river and I wouldn't be able to get jack out.

When I'm singing in the car I get all paranoid other people have the same radio station on and can see me singing.

I also hate ringing people.

Lol at the tampon thing I always get paranoid the tampon has leaked and everyone behind me is laughing.

HAHAHAHA Im having a great laugh

I guess i better share mine...

When i go to the toilet, i cant lock the door. Even in the public's. Im terrified of being trapped in there.... forever....!? LMAO!! previous experience as a 3yr old scared me for life.

And driving my car; i cannot overtake anything.....
Occasionally something possess me & i freak that my wheels are going to fall off & my car is going to blow up.
I have had a horrific accident & very very lucky to be alive.

Maybe if we cant remember how these fears came about, they have something to do with our experiences in a past life?

I HATe the Dr Who music....even just thinking about it gives me the shivers. When I was just over one my mother got very sick and I went to stay with the neighbours. They had two kids older than me (i don't remember any of this - i was told later). anyway, the older boy used to lock my in the closet when I was supposed to be napping, and play dr. music over and over (singing I'm guessing). he bullied me a lot so I guess it's subconcious from that - BTW when my dad found this out (after two weeks), he moved me to live with my nana - no more emotional scarring.

When I've been out scuba/snorkeling I freeze near or over crevises (sp?) and trenches. Absolutly hate them. Fear of disturding a moray or shark. I dunno where this fear comes from as it's never actually happened to me.

I usually gain enough confidence to go over it at least twice. Take me a little while though.

(offtopic: one of the most eerily, mystically beautiful places I have EVER been is 10 meters below the surface, off the coast in gisbourne. A school of fish swam past me, followed by a couple of blue penguins. I was floating in another world. I could see the ocean floor and there was light enough for me to see colours and fish and flashes and ...wow...)

Oh, the one about the fear of the toilet reminded me of another really odd fear I have. Hopefully noone from Huntly will be offended...

...I have this fear that if I stop in Huntly when heading south, I will get trapped there for ever and never able to leave, like some crazy Stephen King novel. Evven if I am busting for the loo, I won't stop, just in case! I don't know why, I just associate it with things like Children of the corn and things like that!
