Mercedes rolled off the bloody change table. I had my hand on her, I swear, it was like it happened in slow motion. She was like a fish flapping in a boat, splat on her face on the floor. And to make it worse, Maya had dropped the apnoea monitor on the floor and of course good old Murphys law she face planted straight on top of it.

She screamed immediately, so not unconscious at all, but we couldn't settle her and there was a huge red mark and lump on her forehead so DP rang an ambulance. They came and checked her out but they were happy that she is ok so we didn't have to go to Starship (hooray!) but have to keep an eye on her over the next few hours. The ambo man kept saying "If she starts vomiting..." and I'm like "she's a refluxer, she ALWAYS vomits" :?

And in the middle of it all poor old Maya was really freaked out and said to me "does this mean I'm not the big sister anymore?" Fair near broke my heart...

I've been in a few times (ok, so more than a few and poked her to make sure she responds, and she seems fine. Am very seriously dosed up on rescue remedy...

Oh, Emma! I'll bet your heart rate went up to levels it's never achieved before! Poor wee wiggly gremlin!

I got such a surprise the first time I tried to change a kid ...those little demons wiggle something fierce! I ended up with her half hanging off the table (thank goodness her parents weren't home) and the nappy on backwards (apparently they don't catch stuff so well when you put them on the wrong way ...). It was rather traumatic for me, and Al who came in to help, the wiggler in question thought it was all a marvellous joke.

In other (very long winded, and only vaguely related) words, go have a (big) glass of wine and remember, screaming baby is good (well ...screaming when they've done something to themselves, not as a general rule).

Over and out

I didn't get it either, I don't think she thought Mercedes was going to die or anything, it was just really odd
