I'd go with the Sunflower then or a hibiscus?

We're going Fairy theme after Deez made me buy a fairy outfit at the Edex shop

Getting the cake make, one with a Fairy barbie and the cake is her skirt (maybe, it's $80!!!! )

we are going to do carebears i think. was making the party list and we have about 20 kids/babies coming! not sure what i will do for wee loot bags though. Do you aim it at Addisons age so maybe give a wee toy of some sort but then that doesnt really sound very exciting for the older kids that are coming say between 3-5yrs old but then its Addisons party so should she and her we friends get something they can play with rather than big kids toys and lollies!

My mum has made us loot bags, I am going to put some chocolate fish in them and a couple of jelly lollies.

As for the cake, I had a trial run of the making a few weeks ago....it was alittle dry but was still eaten by all. I suppose it will be dry as it is an allergy free cake! (sucky) But have no idea how to decorate it.
we are going with a fish theme so will make the shape of a fish but that is all I know at this stage.

Then decorations, i am hiring a helium tank and will do about 30 - 40 balloons and that is it.

I just don't have an imagination!

I'm such a total "no imagination/tight @ss" we're not doing goodey bags because most of the kidlets will be the same as as Caitlin, and I'm not happy with my girl having lollies and I guess the bags would be pretty stink if they had dried fruit in them

We're keeping it low key this year and then going all out next year when she knows whats going on

He does sit and listen to The Wiggles for about 5 seconds but that is it.

Yeah thanks G&T Emma gave me 3 options. I have tried 1, was thinking of trying another this weekend.
Maybe I didn't follow the recipe properly, might give it another go. Not much of a cooker so it is all trial and error.

Just before you invest a lot of money in it Jess, you might want to be aware that there is already an international patent on Taggies:

Caitlin still has her cold (been 2 weeks now) I ended up taking her to the GP on Friday as she woke up sobbing uncontrollabley (sp?) and it really freaked me out because it's so out of character for her. After about 1/2 hour of that I called DH home to take us to the Dr, she seemed to be in pain, that kinda cry.

We couldn't see our normal lovely GP instead we saw the RUDEST MAN EVER posing to be a GP
Asking me dumb questions like "do you think she got a fright?" F$#K YOU! I know when there's something wrong with my baby! Anyways, after much coaxing he checked her out all over, no high temp, no infections anywhere from the cold and as soon as he saw she's had pooping issues he just looks at me like I have the IQ of a snail and goes "Mother, have you checked her nappy?"

*inserts lots of swear words*

Anyways, she was better after we got home but I was really upset and so was DH that we were treated like dumb asses when we were panicking about our child's health.
I'm glad he's not my normal Dr!

My LOVELY normal GP called later in the day because she saw on Caitlin's notes we had come in, she was very sorry we were treated so badly and told to keep a close eye on her because Caitlin might need antibiotics

Sorry for the huge whingy post!

I'm so sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience with that other doctor Toni - you'd be well within your rights to put in a complaint about him. Lovely that your normal GP rang to check up on things though, hopefully she will be able to sort out what the problem is and get Caitlin fixed up.

AW Toni that sucks.  I hope Caitlin is feeling better soon!

We had to see a Dr that wasn't our normal and were rushed out the door like you would not believe.

Tyrell now has a cold. He is on antibiotics for his ears and throat and still managed to wake up yesterday full of it.

I just feel so sorry for them when they are not well. I just feel so helpless. (tyrell ended up in bed with me the last 2 nights as I just couldn't get him to settle)

Just another link that may be useful before you chat to IPONZ: http://www.iponz.govt.nz/pls/web/DBSSITEN.main?p_access_no=630F83CFC6F9A6C5912660FE0B51CDEB&p_option=LIB - IPONZ Information Library

They have a couple of .pdf files that are tutorials on the basics of trade mark and patent requirements. I came across these when I was looking into sewing and selling my own product.

Anyway, what a yucky weekend - today's weather has been absolutely dismal and there was no way we could have even gone out to feed the ducks, so have just done a few bits of housework and sat on my bum watching LOTR.

Well, I figured I may as well make an "official" entrance here since I was all alone in the 'babies' thread

No major news, unless you count toothie pegs #8 & 9 cutting at the moment - so lots of grouching and sh*tty nappies on Erin's part. Think we are having a growth spurt too? She is a fantastic eater (99% of the time) and has been wanting a fair bit more milk than usual (which I am happy to give her), so it's all good.

Anyway, off to make bottles and DH's lunch

Hahaha Jess that is sooo cute ... I had a good giggle over Hadow! We have that word too and it sounds sooo cute! Usually it's said with quite a gruff voice, which makes it sound even funnier

It's a cold, wet day here ... was going to venture to the farmers sale later .. will have a think about that, what with the weather and (sorry, TMI ...) a heavy period. Yuk. Anyone else getting really heavy ones since they had a baby? I flooded last night, gross!

same here, heavy AND crampy! I remember being told that AFs get better after you have a baby - what CR@P!

We took Miss Thang to the Orthoptist (Eye spec) this morning at Greenlane Hospital as we've thought she's had a squint in her left eye (as did the Plunket Nurse last month who refered us, I was impressed that we only had to wait a month for the appointment!).
We were REALLY nervous because Mil and my cousin both had to have eye surgery to correct squints and we thought the same would be for Caitlin.

GOOD NEWS! There's nothing wrong with her eyes are all, both perfectly straight. The bridge of her nose is fairy wide and she has a little more skin on the left side of the bridge of her nose that covers up some of the white of the eye in the corner (Just like one of Emma's Gremlins, can't remember which one, sorry Em). So Emma and I are both blaming their Daddy's wonky faces

Glad to hear Caitlin checked out ok Toni. Hope everyone's bubbas are going well and all feeling better!

Ugh...taking Alyssa for her 4th MenzB jab tomorrow...hope she is ok as we have a baby shower to go to on Saturday.

Posted By: Guests

I am still undecided on the 4th MenzB jab. Mind you I am also just being a bit lazy and not wanting to truck all the way over there just for them to poke her with a needle and then leave me to deal with her if she gets grumpy. Oh well, may just have to suck it up and make the appt for next week sometime, and get some bloods done for me as well that I have been procrastinating on...

Date Posted: 15 June 2007 at 9:58am

Toni, that is great news. it is a shame how our bubba's always get the crappy things from us...or their daddies!

Oh my gosh I have Af at the mo and it is pretty heavy too.....it just sucks what us women have to go through argh!

Tyrell's 6th tooth has cut this morning finally.....only took about 3 weeks. Maybe he might sleep alittle better now. Oh how I love to dream.

I hope Alyssa's jab goes ok. Tyrell was fine with his 4th jab. We are thankful for his big thighs....thanks to his mum LOL

Well, I'm at a loss as to what to do cause Alyssa is going to be a year old at the end of next month and she still won't eat lumpy food! Thankfully she will eat some finger foods, although she still won't chew properly so it has to be quite dissolvable or soft (bread is no good cause she tried to swallow big bits and ends up vomiting)... I wasn't worried early on when she wouldn't go for it but should I worry now?

Posted By: Two Blondinis
Date Posted: 21 June 2007 at 8:12pm
our problem is more she's not that fussed on finger food. I asked Plunket about it last weekend and they said that as long as she can feed herself and her motor skills are developing then it really didn't matter.

Not much help with your problem but perhaps talk to Plunket? Maybe her gagging reflex is still there?

I learnt this week while watching some ridiculously boring daytime TV, that your gag reflex never goes away. My cousin who's an early childhood teacher said that they do the whole 'gag' thing to learn where the back of their throat is don't know how true that is, but I guess it makes sense! Pepsi, hope you have some luck with Alyssa and lumps. Try and persevere as much as you possibly can.

How many bottles are your 11 month olds on now?

Posted By: pepsi
Date Posted: 22 June 2007 at 12:26pm
Hehe cool...a rollercoaster would be an awesome present Toni! Definitely expensive but very unique

I'm still breastfeeding so can't give bottle amounts baalamb, but we are still on 4 feeds (would be 3 if Alyssa didn't wake in the night ).

Posted By: Deez
Date Posted: 22 June 2007 at 3:12pm
I can't help you baalamb, I'm still breastfeeding as well and I can't help you either Pepsi, Lycan only feeds himself he doesn't like me feeding him anymore...and if I do, it's abit of a mission!

Not long to go and our babies will be 1!

Kirst - Erin is still on 3x bottles a day (now 200mls), when her current tin of follow-on formula runs out we will be giving her toddler milk, and introducing some regular milk as well.

Posted By: Two Blondinis
Date Posted: 22 June 2007 at 4:25pm
what's the difference between toddler and follow on? I thought follow on WAS toddler? Karicare follow on says 6mths to 24mths, perhaps S26 (?) is different. I can't wait to get her off formula and onto cows milk as I've been pinning all my hopes that that will sort her issues out (but the homeopath stuff has pretty much fixed her but she has to keep taking that). We're planning on giving her cows milk during the day (from 12mths) and then a bottle of formula at bedtime.

I thought that was the case with the gagging thing, but wasn't 100% sure so didn't post it lol

Caitlin's on 3 200mls of formula and has heaps of water/juice as well.

I tried her today with the straw that comes with the juice carton, just to see what happened - she knew exactly what to do and drank the whole carton (150mls)! Such a guts!

Cool. All sounds good. We've just dropped Ashlee's middle-of-the-day bottle. She didn't miss it one bit! She has yoghurt and cheese as well so that gives her the calcium. I think we'll start bringing in cows milk into her cereal/Weetbix etc and see how she goes with that.

Ugh, it's always hard to know with the bottles thing. Especially with conflicting advice from every which way!

I had no idea about the gagging thing until this week! Interesting!!

Pepsi .. how many teeth does Alyssa have? I found that until Amelia had both top & bottom teeth she was useless with lumps and finger food. At my last Plunket visit the nurse said to keep trying, but all Amelia did was vomit her dinner, so I gave up until she was ready.

Kirst ... Amelia's on 3 x 200ml bottles per day. We use Karicare follow on formula. I've been doing no dairy until 12 months, so will be moving to the toddler formula next month, and will slowly introduce dairy products .. one at a time for a week each I think.

Not taking any chances with dairy intolerance/allergies on my side of the family. Already think she can't have apricots out the time ... cheeks seem to go VERY red?! Weird!

I think a couple of other formulas do it this way Toni, but I could be wrong. With S26 at least follow on is 6-12 months, and Toddler milk is 12mos and onwards. I will be giving Erin cows milk by itself soon as well though, since a) we go through bucketloads anyway, and b) the toddler milk / formula will last us longer that way too. Would love to see how Erin would go with one of those juice cartons, I have a horrible feeling she would squeeze it to make it explode LOL But might get a little one first and see how she goes.

Kirst - Erin has a lot of yoghurt and cheese as well, a cup of yoghurt with her weetbix or muesli in the morning, and cheese at lunch most days too. As I mentioned in an earlier post, she seems to be a wee guts at the moment!

Edit: Oh and Toni, I will have to have a look at the tins, but am not 100% sure what the actual nutritional differences are between the follow on and toddler formulas - maybe the Omega 3 and a couple of other things??

Luna: Alyssa has 8 teeth. I don't think she really tries to chew with them though, just bites off chunks of finger foods and books!

I did a google search and it seems it is a pretty common occurance for babies Alyssa's age to still not be eating lumps.. One mother was complaining that her 22 month old is still unhappy with them!! Geez I hope it doesn't last that long!!

Jax: You're right about the carton drinks, Alyssa loves to squeeze her cartons and the juice spills out. I tend to let her hold it herself when it's a little bit more empty...

Interesting to know about the cows milk Jess.. I planned on introducing a bit more of it as well as Alyssa seems to enjoy little tastes of it. I wasn't going to use formula at all but have recently won a couple of tins of toddler milk through the Treasures magazine so might give that a try too.

*lurking*

Random observation Jess, but it could be nuts with the potato chip reaction. Depending on the brand they're often produced on the same production line. Otherwise it could be some of the ingredients in the flavoring, but as she's already having wheat and dairy no probs and they're the two main ingredients in the flavouring from an allergy perspective, I'd take a gamble on it being nuts

Could be the soy Jess, but there's really only traces in the flavouring of the chips, would need to be a pretty severe soy allergy, I think getting Ella tested is a really sensible idea. The gremlins are going in 3 weeks, I am counting down!

At 11.5 months, my 'toddler' has finally started properly crawling. I'm pretty proud and thank myself lucky that I've had all this time where she's been pretty content to sit still!

Like I said earlier, Yay for clever girl Ashlee (see! told ya she would just do it ) and OH NO for you, now you'll be like the rest of us who can't even pee without little hands banging on the bathroom door "mum mum mum"

or is that just our house?

Yay way to go Ashlee, look out mum it is all over now.

Toni our house is the same, I can not use the bathroom at all without Tyrell around, he now knows how to open the door.....

Yeah, we've really got to do something about our gas heater now. Currently looking at guards/surrounds for it, otherwise it stays off! And then theres the safety/baby proofing of everything else. Haven't bothered to do much of that until now!

Our bathroom door is broken and just pushes open so I'm likely to have visitors to that room also!

Kirst, it doesn't matter how much you think your house is baby proof - it ain't and never will be!
Same with my mum's house - Miss Caitlin is now sporting an attractive egg shaped bump on her forehead after climbing up a bar stool and falling off (don't worry, she was only on the bottom rung of it so only really fell 20cms) but poor Nanny felt so rotten Aparently Caitlin didn't even cry, just got up and carried on

Congrats Miss Ashlee, on the crawling!

As for teeth, we still only have 4, but the top 2 beside the front ones look impressively close to coming thru .. hmm .. I thought that last week and still no sign. Oh Well ...
Just got a bit of a cold this week, however we are still going to the combined 1st birthday party on Sunday for all our 'parents group' babies, or should that be toddlers???

Then I have a manic week next week, and have just agreed to work (very) part time for the next six weeks - at least I can do it at home. Yay.

Ashlee popped out her 8th tooth yesterday so she's even now hahaha!

Luna, we've got our combined 1st birthday this Sunday too! It's going to be fun

Does anyone have any tips for nappy changing a wiggly toddler?!?! OMG this past week while Ashlee's figured out she can move away, she will NOT lie still enough to have her bum cleaned and it's seriously driving me up the friggen wall! This usually happens when we're running late for something and need to do it in a hurry. Please tell me that it's a phase!? I have high hopes on that one...

Erin is a wiggler too, but hasn't put up much struggle in the last couple of days because we have been hit with a poo & spew bug Off to the doctors tomorrow, or A&E if there are no spaces at the GP.

We have the same problem with a wriggle bum! We just change her as quickly as humanly possible then let her stand up to get dressed.

But YES, VERY ANNOYING! Especially when they're screaming like you're trying to amputate them from the waist down

Oh the joys of changing a wriggling, escapee baby!!!!!!

We also use any/all of the following, depending on the circumstances:
Super duper, speedy mummy
distraction
holding down
blocking MY ears (not literally) to the noise emitting from said baby
and sometimes just letting her escape for a minute before going after her and hoping there is no pee on the floor

Oh my gosh we have a wiggly bum here. As sson as the nap is off heis also off.

At night when we are both here it takes 2 of us to dress him after his bath.
The morning I have just learnt to be super fast! We use distraction during the day.....if it works

Lycan has a tummy bug at the moment. Took him to his GP today. Finally I have managed to put him down (he's fast asleep). Last night he was fine but this morning was another story....He's been sleepy most of the day and has little bursts of energy...totally out of character for him. GP thinks he should be better in 48hours if not we need to go to the hospital A & E...Had a birthday party to go to tomorrow, looks like we have to give it a miss, here's hoping we wont miss anyothers that are coming up!

Sorry to hear that Lycan is unwell Deez, I feel your pain !! We have just come from six hours at the A&E and Erin is conked out, and we are also on strict instructions to give her fluids only for the next 24hrs, then see if she will keep down a bit of stage 1 puree or something. If not, then back to hospital we go. She seems cheery enough, but still quite tired - sad to miss out on some things we had planned for Sunday, but oh well - c'est la vie

She woke up crying this morning with her face and sheet covered in dark green snot (that was after a certain someone who shall remain nameless but they know who they are woke us up when they texted me at 7.30 this morning )

She must be feeling heaps better today though as she's in a much better mood than the constant crying yesterday and hasn't been sneezng as much. I've been dosing her up with Pamol and some of the cold rememdy we were given by the Homeopath (have also sneaked some of that myself, I haven't got time to be sick! )

How are the sicky bubs doing? I have a feeling Ashlee's heading that way too. Lots of grizzles and a slightly runny nose.

She's not getting enough sleep during the day anymore. She gets worn out with the crawling, but is still only having her 45 min naps (maybe 2 of them?) during the day and come the afternoon, she is one crank monster!!!! That crankiness only started since the crawling started. Some days are worse than others, obviously. I almost get happy at the thought of having to walk out the door for an evening shift so I don't have to deal with it... and I don't even like the job!! Just a mini rant for the day.

Kirst we had the same, she was always way to busy getting into everything to think she was tired, then it would be too late and she'd get over tired and turn into She devil
We have the same problem now she's walking, but now when she's tired her balance isn't as good and falls over a lot (she looks drunk actually )

But she's been having a 2hour sleep in the morning and a 1 hour sleep in the afternoon/early evening, and is still going to bed no probs at 7 and still sleeping through. YAY!

Ohhh good to know it gets better (touch wood ) because in all honesty, there's not much one can get done in 45 minutes as well as manage a rest for myself!

Gosh, I sound so ungrateful. I should be happy that I've got a pretty contented, good little lady on my hands! But I just wish she'd sleep just a little bit extra...!

LMAO at images of 'drunk' little people tottering around hehe!! Too cute!

I hope your bubs are feeling better soon.
Tyrell seems to be getting over his cold, I am just looking forward to his nose from no longer looking like candle sticks!

We had plunket on Tuesday. He is now 12.05kgs (my big bubba)
I have been told to drastically cut back his bottles as we are giving him too much milk. (I thought this a couple of months ago so decided to try and cut out a bottle, 10 mins after he was due he was a monster) So we have reduced his volume like she suggested. Well last night he woke up so beside himself neither DH or I could calm him, so I got a bottle and he downed it and went straight back to sleep.

ARGH what do I do? I have not sure....any suggestions?

How many bottles is he having?

I dropped Ashlee's bottles down to 3 around the 9 mth mark (like my cousin was told to do who goes to the same Plunket as us!) and then visited Plunket who told me that I wasn't giving her enough *sigh*

By the sounds of things, he's just not ready to give up that bottle so I'd tend to stick with what's good for Tyrell

Thanks Kirsten, that is what I was thinking, but I also want what is best for Tyrell.
1st time mum with no support so it is hard to know what to do, so I take what Plunket/Karitane say as gospel(not quite but you know what I mean!)

I will see how he goes tonight and make a desision along those lines tomorrow!

Unless her teeth are really bothering her, or there is something else happening, Erin has two naps with an average total of 3-4 hours. Morning one is normally the longest, and the afternoon one has just started getting a bit shorter. She also still sleeps through the night, so can't complain at all!

As far as being sick goes, I am SO over it Just as she had started to recover from the gastro bug of last weekend, she now has a virus and I think I gave it to her Erin started coughing this morning, and then after her bottle I took her temp and it was 39 ! So off to the GP for both of us, as I have just been getting worse as well... (rattly cough, congestion, sore throat, sore ears, you name it). If she doesn't perk up by Sunday then we have to give her antibiotics

Posted By: Two Blondinis
Date Posted: 06 July 2007 at 7:44pm
Bl00dy Plunket! As long as he's happy and healthy then who cares how many bottles he has!

He's a big boy, so he needs his food!
As long as he stays on his percentile line then he should be fine.
And if he's waking in the night starving hungry then I would be inclined to keep the bottle in his routine (or up his solids?)

Had to start poor old Erin on the antibiotics tonight rather than tomorrow, as her temperature wasn't coming down. Seems to be working slowly, so we will let her sleep and check her temp again in the morning.

And I agree with Toni - bl**dy plunket !! The nerve of them sometimes... if Tyrell is happy with how you are / were doing it, then keep doing it !!

Allergies suck big time. I rang to get our test results today...man was she rude but for a change i gave it back...woops. I asked her when it was more convenient for me to call her.....LOL silly B

I decided we would try giving more food and less bottle. He is asleep at the mo which is the 1st all this week. (before 10pm argh)
So if he gets up tonight like last night then I will look at maybe stretching the time between bottles. He is on 250mls every 4 hours so will just stretch till he is ready not when my clock says.

Can I ask, what are your bubba's having roughly each day.

Our day is
Breakkie porridge, toast (less than 1/2)
Lunch sandwich (lucky if it is 1/2)
Afternoon tea 2 -3 rice crackers
Dinner meat & 3 veges
Desert fruit, maybe apple 1/4 or 1/2 banana (or the likes) then Oreo bikkie some nights for a treat

I do not think Tyrell eats a lot but what am I comparing that to...myself and DH....?

Posted By: pepsi
Date Posted: 06 July 2007 at 9:07pm
I hope you and Erin start feeling better soon Jax!

Sounds like you will work something out for Tyrell that keeps him happy Amy.. I have found that just because one Plunket/Karitane nurse says one thing, often if you get a different lady the next time they will something completely different anyway. So as long as he's happy and healthy like everyone said - you know him better than anyone
