we decided this weekend was the weekend we are going to try (ugh!) and make gabriella sleep in her cot in the nursery...and go for naps in morning....LOL!!! she has been in basinette next to our bed

well so far she went down for a 30 min power nap at 9 30am...and then despite the rubbing of the eyes etc she has refused to go to sleep in cot...she cries when the ocean wonders stops (damn things need remote controls to start them from another room) and when i go in she looks at me and smiles and giggles....argh!!!

Ive been in three times and refused to pick her up...third time i gave in cause she put head back and screamed....this is over a one hour period....i now have her in the rocker next to me and she keeps dosing off!!! but no cot!!!

OMG i am soooo not looking forward to tonight...

Power to you sister !! Im not looking forward to when Thomas goes into his cot in his own room. At the moment he is in the portacot beside our bed and Ive tried to get him to self settle during the day (yeah right), doesnt happen, he likes to sleep in the pushchair of all places. Sometimes he settles at night but not that often.
When he gets into his own room Im hoping that it will be a big boy novelty .... fingers crossed!

Keep up the good work ...

maybe you could try her bassinet in the room with the cot first...?? (but you prob already did that.) and maybe without the oceans wonders sounds...perhaps it wakes her when it stops with the silence??

i waited till we had day sleeps sorted before i tried nights.

I second Deb's suggestion, and if she is then comfortable with sleeping in the bassinette in the same room, then you could also make the next step putting the bassinette (minus the stand) into the cot, and go from there. I found that Erin's mobile music didn't last long enough either, so just got a small portable CD/radio player and a lullaby CD.

PS - You will get there !! (Even if it is slowly...)

well she KOed on me twice more so put her down...got two more 15-30 mins sleeps in cot...its not that she dislikes the cot but she too is a stroller / pod daytime sleeper - or not at all til 3 30 or so = today she KOed on mum for nearly three hours now!!! I gave up on cot for day but will be trying tonight...

figured best time for me to have NO sleep if she wont do night time in cot is a long weekend with mum and DH home!!!

and am also not working tues this week (am purposely making a junior suffer for her sins by callin in sick on mon - but thats another story!)

Ella slept well in portacot for three nights in chch having never slept in one before so am hoping it will be same for cot....might leave stereo on maybe for while tonight then and try that - or silence....

let u know tomorrow....

just a thought, i had this problem with Rhiannon and in the end we figured out it was because the cot is so big compared to the confined space of a bassinet.

so we rolled up two towels and put them on either side of her length ways, and put a sheet over them, put her between them and covered her and seemed to work really well for us.

i hope that you dont have too many days of this :)

yeah with the portacot she slept width ways (due to the monitor issue - see other thread)

well she fed and was down around 7 30 but not going off to sleep so guess she will do usual and wake then need another feed etc...so will see...

post in morning may or may not be positive

Do you still wrap her firmly? Does she usually have Oceans in the bassinette? Krystiana is very aware of new places already so I think the new room might be doing it for her. Try putting her down in the bassinette or stroller, in the new room, so she can get used to her new surroundings.

she has never been swaddled or wrapped - never liked it from daydot...I have short sheeted the cot - blanket only tho as she will not sleep under a sheet!

I havent had oceans on the basinette just a couple of hanging toys which i put over only if she is awake and she is changed morning and night in nursery always and often feeds in there and changes clothes in there...so not a strange room for her.

Well she is down again...had another big long feed and TKOed....not a murmur since so hoping this is the last i hear until say 330 or 4am or so....I would love to say straight thru til 7am but she has a 15 min feed in middle of her big sleep usually so wont hold my breath for first nite in cot!

PS - the BIG baby - aka BSDH has been asleep this entire time....longer than Gabriella....

yes he is "watching" Shrek on couch - SNORING his head off!!! LMAO!!!

LMAO at BSDH - men cam sleep anywhere, any time - if only babies were as easy.

I found the gremlins settled better when they were tiny if I had music playing softly in their rooms. I started out just with the mobiles but they screamed when the mobiles stopped so I carted the CDplayer in there and started playing them lullabies on repeat and it seemed to work.

My gremlins aren't the best daytime sleepers either, and i have a theory on that one - they spend so much time out and about napping in the stroller or the car that they're used to only short daytime naps so even when we are at home I get 45 mins max. I don't complain too much tho coz they are brilliant night time sleepers.

Good luck tonight - and at least if she wakes during the night you will be able to boot BSDH out of bed to deal with her, him being so well rested and all

yeah the oceans wonder is gorgeous and does capture her attention but needs to be twice as long! agh!

well we did ok = DH got a punch (mock)from me tho...heres why!

she woke at 3am...fine. I needed to pee first but DH decided he would go into her straight away despite me telling him not to...I usually pick her up feed her put her down!

so i get to nursery to find him changing her butt!!! OMG she is soooo wide awake by then!

So i fed her - took 50 mins to get her to stay down. Then went back to bed but she woke crying again so went and fed her again...took another 30 mins!!! OMG we usually do 15-30 mins tops in middle of night!

SO he copped a punch from me when i went back to bed!!! Accompanied by "thats for making me put her in the cot and waking her up!"....LOL!!!

anyways she slept then til 8am so was pretty good all up really.....

well he DID not get up last nite...he was fair warned...

she went down at 10pm...and murmered a few times but didnt wake. Then at 5am I heard ocean wonders playing thru monitor - i asked DH if he had been in and he mumbld something like NO.....freaky so i went in and she was lying half asleep and across the cot width ways.

Went back to bed but heard her again so at 5 15 got up and snuck in to nursery in time to see her kick oceans with her foot to start it and then lie back and suck her fists...too cute!!!

Got her out - fed her - 10 mins later she was TKO!!! YIPPPEEEE.....

THen she woke at 7am so DH got her up etc....she has now had another feed and gone down at 8 30 and is KOed again.....

I can handle her not sleeping during day when she sleeps like this at night.

Woohoo go Gabriella! What a clever girl!

It is weird when they first start sleeping thru, I remember waking up and it took me a while to realise that it was daylight and I hadn't been up during the night.
