i was thinking about this this morning... nothing too specific just vague thoughts tho.

the two that most popped into my head tho were the muliaga issue and sue bradfords bill.

think about it ...

if the media had referred to it as the repeal of section 59 instead of the anti smacking bill how many people would have got so upset.?

and if the media reported a lady had died after her power was disconnected instead of power cut causes mother to die.

?????

how many other ones can you think of where the way the media reports it put a whole different slant on things.?

I am going to stay well out of this one - I feel that perhaps 5 years of media studies possibly makes me a little biased

that is media. and its much harder these days as we get soooooooo much information to sift through and work out what to believe and what not. Have you ever noticed how we will have a a whole string of similar "disasters" one after the other. I'm sure that is not any different to the previous year or so but we hear about it.

The biggest hyseteria I can think of recently was the "bird flu pandemic". The media made that SOOOOOO much worse than I think it was.....just because it could.

A friend of mine pointed out that this information overload is a problem for our teenagers as they just arent equiped to work out what they should listen to and what not.....

The millennium (?sp) was another mass hysteria, with all the hype of electrical things not working etc.

yeah, i was HOPING so much that the millenium bug would wipe my student loan.

I think the media sensationilises things. I really don't care that over 2o years ago the police chief watched a dirty movie....I seriously don't. But then you look at all the stuff when Bill Clinton had "relations with that woman".

My friend think that if section 59 repeal was refered to as "the anti-abuse law" rather than the anti smacking, there would have been no protests at all - i mean how you protest anti-abuse.

I stopped watching the news after Saddam Hussein died - that night on the news there was about half an hour on both channels, inluding him walking up to the noose thingy and then photos of him dead. I so did not need to see that, and yes it was important news but so over-done. Also everything to do with the war - you cant believe anything you see as its all from the americans point of view and they only tell part of the story to make them look like the good guys.
