I didn't really know where this would belong so feel free to move it...

DH and I are pretty sure that we want 2 kids. It's a little bittersweet in the fact that that means by the time I'm 26/27 - assuming we have no problems TTC #2 - we would have completed our family. I'm coming up 24 next month and the sheer fact that my 'baby-making' days will be over in a few years is a little depressing!

When the time comes that a family is complete, do you think it is the woman's job to get her tubes tied, the man's job to get a vasectomy or both? Can a tubal litigation be reversed if by chance we decide we wanted a 3rd baby later on? Or is that dangerous territory?

TIA!

DH and I have decided we have finished three's more than enough. And we have decided to get him "fixed". Simply because it's not such a big deal for a man and it's major surgery for a women. Plus we can pay a couple of hundred dollars for him privately and there's no waiting lists etc.

Although we won't be solely relying on that as it seems more and more now they aren't working as well as they should, so I guess the bonus about tubal litigation is it's supposed to be more reliable.

Personal choice I reckon. Not too sure about reversals for the tubal but I assume it would be pretty hit and miss. But have heard of it being done.

now that our family is complete (well, every day my wee boy gets bigger I change my mind back to thinking maybe a third would be OK..that is until night time again!) this is a hot topic in our household.
We have decided that I am going to get a IUD thingie fitted which will give us 5 years to change our minds if we do decide to go for the third.
Re who gets the chop or the knot, well I think thats a decision that you guys have to make yoruselves. The chop is a less intrusive op and the knot isn't reversable (I don't beleive) so for us, I think it will be DH getting the deed not me...

You can get tubes untied but it cost  about $2000 and is not done publicly. Mirena IUD are classed as one of the safest, reliable methods of long term contraception for women. Last 4-5yrs and low risks compared to having major surgery for tubal ligation.

I'm 35 and pregnant with number 3, I am seriously considering getting my tubes tied after I've had baby. Hubbie is younger than me by 7 years and for my own personal reasons I don't want him to go through a "V". I'd rather do it as in 10-15years I'll be going through menopause..   We won't be having anymore so our family is finally complete.

I think it all comes down to personal choice etc...

Pretty sure, Kels hehe! Almost 100%

I just thought if I had to have a CS next time, they'd be able to do a tubal at the same time while I'm all open and flashing my insides everywhere anyway LOL. It's something I'll have to talk to my OB about I guess. They may not do it because I'm still young but *shrug* I'm not sure!

I think we'll probably go with a Mirena after the next one. And DH has already put his hand up for a vasectomy anyway without fuss. I just really don't want to have an 'oopsies' if that fails to work so a vasectomy and a Mirena probably go quite nicely hand in hand.

A friend of mine was offered to have her tubes tied when their 2nd baby was delivered by c/s and she was about 22 at the time. A very viable option for you.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about tubes tied for myself, I've heard that guys have less potential problems so I'm likely to look into that first.

I don't know that I would have my tubes tied. We've always talked about B getting the snip anyway. We've also said that we would wait a year or 2 after what we thing will be out last child to be sure it really is our last!

Well I have 2 and I don't feel like we are complete yet. I'm still working at DH for the next one. However I will probably have to have a historectomy(sp?) in about 10 years time so that is our drastice(sp?) way of having no more children. I'll probably use an IUD in the meantime till I have sorted out what the go is with the histro.

For us, Nat getting a V is far more medically sound than me getting my tubes tied... not only because it is a far less invasive proceedure for him but also because of my blood disorder and surgeons being unwilling to operate on me more than neccessary.

we have 'pretty much' decided that our family is complete. we've always said that 2 is enough but after a 'slack attempt' at contraception a month ago resulting in the ECP and reading all the preggy posts and birth announcements on here...i'm not so sure i'm done.

anyway, we've decided that DH will have the snip when we have the $400 to pay for it, as it's a simpler operation for him than it is me.

we still arent 100% if 2 is all we want, cause we change our minds so often lol.
so at the moment we are going to wait a few yrs till we do anything but if we do DF will be getting the snip.
i wont get my tubes tied unless i really have to.
