He just went into Arbuckles to get me some bamboo/cotton towels so that I can cut them up to make night inserts for the boys!

He thinks I'm crazy because the towels are so nice, but he bought them anyway!

Oh, and he wants me to get more cloth wipes! Yay, an excuse to shop!

Oh that's fantastic! Don't think my DH would even know what could go inside pockets for night inserts - are bamboo/cotton towels absorbant enough or are you adding them to a stash of other inserts?
You don't really need an excuse to shop do you?

He knew what to get because I told him! We'd discussed inserts, but basically he's told me that if I've done my research, he'll go along with whatever I decide.

I'm going to team them with a microfibre insert (as I'm told bamboo can be like hemp - great at holding, not so great at the initial absorbtion) but they should be enough otherwise. I'm thinking I'll make them big enough to fold into 3 or 4 layers, and use a couple per boy.

I talked to the ladies on TNN about it to see if it would be pratical, and there are a couple of mums who use bamboo/cotton blends with great success overnight.

And you're right, I don't need an excuse to shop but it's nice to have his support in spending that money! Especially on nappy stuff!

Last night I put the boys down in cloth, stuffed with a fuzzi insert (3 layers microfibre) and some of the bamboo towelling I got my husband to buy at Arbuckles. It worked really well! They both stayed dry all night, despite both being tummy sleepers and Xavier feeding a couple of times. I folded the handtowel into thirds then into half, making 6 layers, and put that in Xavier's nappy; and I folded the 2 flannels together to make 5 layers all up, and put that into Josiah's nappy. When I changed them this morning after 12.5hrs, the top third of Xavier's stuffing was still dry! Josiah's was wet but not soaked. So it looks like I guessed the layers about right.

I'm going to organise with the sewing teacher at Nat's school to use the overlockers (something she's offered before) and I'm going to cut the towels up into fractionally smaller than the handtowel size. That way I can fold the bamboo/cotton flats that will result to fit but still be able to hang them flat to dry. Nat thought I should sew the layers together to make pads, but they'd take too long to dry after washing!
