I was going to get my cords tied after this baby but i am having second thoughts has anyone on here had it done and if so any side effects etc any information would be great -------------

What kind of IUD are you getting? I have a Mirena IUD and it is fabulous.
Only mildly uncomfortable to have fitted and a bit of cramping in the days afterward. Very light spotting for the first 3 months and no periods or side effects since! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

im not sure what one i will get do you no the difference between the 2? My midwife told me she woulf refer me though the hosptial here. -------------

Mirena is a newer type of IUD, it is plastic and uses the same contraceptive method as the pill.
I got it because I had heaps of side effects with the pill and also kept forgetting to take it! This is the http://www.mirena-us.com/whatismirena.html?C=&c=S1 - Mirena site it does comparisions with other IUD's in the FAQ section. (Of course it is a completely biased POV though!) The main drawback I found was the cost. if you're not able to have it subsidised it is around $350, compared to $30 for the copper IUD. I justified the expense by working out what I would be saving on tampons and pads and painkillers in the 5 years worth of periods I wouldn't be getting and that won hubby over! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

I'm getting the normal IUD when I start my next cycle.
Will let ya know how it goes... but from friends that are currently using it, they've not had problems. Heavier periods but nothing too overwhelming. |

I never liked mine - bedroom gymnastics was always painful, heavy periods and cramping. Always felt my body was trying to push it out.
From chatting to friends it seems to be something that either you really like or just doesn't work for you. Had mine out a couple of months ago, hence the trying for baby! I'm hoping dp gets his bits fixed once we've got a couple of kids. ------------- Angel babies Mar '04, Oct '08 and Sep '09. |
