I just realised this, with a bit of dread as our Christmases are generally full of family politics and secret squabbles

But anyway, what are you doing to prepare for Christmas, if anything? We have started to save a weekly amount for pressies, that way we can start shopping at Labour Weekend (go the sales!). And since both our families live close by, we don't have to arrange travel or anything.

OOoooooohhhhhh noooooooo not Christmas.  Well, I have started putting away, cause otherwise it is such a big cost in December, and of course Harlan's birthday is at the beginning of December.  Mum said she will do Christmas Lunch for the family this year......  Yeh no cooking for me this year, I can sit back and relax.

LALA "I'm not listening" I can't believe it's going to be here soon...

We kind of don't organise anything, in fact we are known to wait till the week before or even the night before to go and fight the crowds....

I hate the whole drama of where to eat... we'll have a 3mth old so the grandparents will want to do something..as long as I'm not driving all over Auckland I don't care.. oh to be able to go away for Christmas day, yeah right like that would ever happen!

Kels - shall I add me on 23/11 and Kryssi on 14/01?

Emma - every time I think of Hannah going to be 4, Briona 2, Krystiana almost 1, man do I feel old! Or at least much older than a 24yo is supposed to feel!!!

It would suck to have your Bday so close to Xmas. Glad its not mine

Do you do separate Bday pressies or parties as well Busymum?

Last year the Warehouse (the only decent/cheap place i have to shop where i live) had a great Toy sale at the end of June & i got heaps of stuff at bargain prices for Brae & stashed it away till Xmas. Hopefully they are doing the same thing this year.

Christmas - eek! We will have four kids by then. I was thinking about the logistics of having all the kids together for one meal with my family before 3 of them spend time with their other parents. Then I realised we'd have to buy them all presents. And give them money to buy each other something.

July is our expensive month. Thats when 3 of the 4 kids have birthdays.

Yep. We don't always throw a party for DH (we had a pot-luck dinner for his 25th though) and last year we brought Hannah's birthday party forward 10 days. I explained to her that Abby (her best friend) would be away for her birthday so we were going to have a pretend birthday on a different day so Abby could come. DH grew up with people giving him presents with a "- and that can be your Christmas (or birthday) present as well" so we want to keep his and Hannah's (and Krystiana's and whoever else's) presents separate. When the kids get older I will probably say to them, look we're planning to spend a certain amount for your birthday and again for Christmas, but if you would prefer something bigger I'll combine it - but still pay the same total.

With birthday parties so far I work roughly on one guest per year of age, so so far I have been able to ring the mums to check and pencil book the date before invitations go out.

Well my birthday is in December - it really does suck. I always tried to convince my mother that I could have it in August instead, but she never went for it. Hate getting 'combined' pressies. Hate getting birthday pressies wrapped in xmas paper.

But anyway, it won't be all about me this time!

I don't imagine we will have a big xmas this year as bubs will be too young to care, so will probably wrap up some boxes or whatever she is into pulling apart at that stage - lol!

There is somthing to be said about not having contact with one side of the family as it minimises the driving on xmas day - we may go to the inlaws for xmas day because they are amazing and do everything and make a big fuss of us, otherwise, if I can be bothered (so, no this won't be happening !) I could have it here.

Miss if you feel the need to stay home for Christmas, could I go to your in-laws instead?

We I had a look at the flybuys points and we can get Andrew some Thomas stuff from there for xmas, Josh who knows what we'll get him. I'm hoping my parents will be in Oz by then and we'll take off over there for xmas and new years *fingers crossed*. As much as we love spending time with DH's family his brother annoys the hell out of me and I hate spending any time with him, so I avoid times like that.

I'll go looking at the July toy sales for a few things (and end up with a lot ).

Lol Busymum! We are lucky.

Mummybecks - that is awesome that you can use your flybuys, we hardly ever have enough points to do anything with, then again I have now lost the card so that doesn't help...
