Hi Ladies,

I am thinking of introducing some more finger foods to Ollie but just don't really know what else to give him. At this stage he still doesn't have any teeth so does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried some fruit i.e. bananas, apples, mandarins in one of those things that you can put food in and they can chew on (having a mental block so can't remember what they are called!!!!)Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

The gremlins have finger foods for lunch most days, Today they had some pasta spirals (rice pasta coz of allergies) some of the Aria Farm lamb chips and some cold cooked zucchini pieces. They sucked all of the flesh out of the zucchini and I baked the lamb chips rather than grilled them so they weren't too crunchy. They also love rice crackers, fruit bars and occasionally I give them a carob cookie to suck on.

Good question Millie. I need to get onto giving Ollie some finger foods too. What about some steamed carrot?
The gremlins are doing well with their eating Emma. What clever wee buttons they are.

You'd think so! They love finger foods, but when it comes to baby mush they're still only having about half a jar each per meal. I have no idea how they stay so chubby!

Wow those gremlins are little finger-food machines!  Ella still gags on her finger-foods then promptly throws up her last meal!

Cruskets with a bit of vegemite are always good as they kind of dissolve so no teeth required! Also gingernuts are a big hit here - again just sucked on (but they make a HUGE mess!)

The Watties feeding chart has some ideas, but these are recommended for babies 9 months plus, so you might need to use your own discretion about whether your baby is ready for them:

  • Mandarin segments (the tinned kind have the white pith taken off, and are very soft)
  • Raisins (a "choke food" so be careful)
  • Thin apple slices
  • Grated cheese
  • Wine biscuits
  • Cooked broccoli
  • Tinned pineapple rings
  • Avocado
  • Strawberries
  • Banana
  • Cooked carrot
  • Nectarine slices
  • Dried apricots (a bit tough for this age, though)
  • Mini meatballs
  • Cooked peas
  • Cooked pasta
  • Mini crustless sandwiches
  • Wine biscuits
  • Strips of luncheon sausage
  • Rice crackers or biscuits
  • Bread sticks

Oooh, I gave the gremlins cucumber for the first time tonight and they loved it! I took the skin off and gave them a chunk each. It was cold from the fridge which probably helped their teething gums, and they sucked all the flesh/seeds out. Mum reckons I'm gonna have to buy shares in a cucumber farm coz Maya loves them too, she eats them whole.

At 9.5 months Elle still won't do finger food. She will have toast or wine biscuits but throws everything else away before even tasting it. She throws up if she has textured food too. I was worried about it but I figure one day she will end up eating a normal diet...just not any time soon. It's puree all the way here.b

I have read this with interest, what I would like to ask is:

When did you start giving finger food? Rhyley has rusks (those hard stick things) which he gets thru and also Uk Rusks (so much nicer and like a think buscuit).
