my wee man is one in a few weeks and is not crawling yet. i know all babies are different but am starting to get a little worried that he is falling behind.
he was only 5pd 12 when he was born and then spent 10wks in a pavlik harness for dislocated hips so i'm wondering if this could be why he isn't interested in moving. he does roll around the floor to get places so may not even crawl, but he should be trying to pull himself up on things shouldn't he??????? i have no idea, i don't know anyone with babies the same age and don't know what he should be doing at this stage. my sister thinks it's because he is small for his age?? is there anyone else with small babies and no crawling???  ------------- http://www.alternatickers.com">

As they say every one is different...I walked at 10 months and my brother started walking at 8 months. I have a friend who's son did not start walking till 18 months.
I am sure he is going to start to soon enough...and then he will run away from you..... If you are worried may be you should ask a doc. I am sure there is nothing to worry about! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Hey there one of my friends had a little girl who didn't crawl till she was 15 months old and didn't walk until 23 months old and she wasn't small! They called her "Porker" as a nickname :-p
I wouldn't worry too much but if you are just talk to your doctor. They will reassure you :-) And just think that the longer he isn't walking the longer you have before he starts getting in to EVERYTHING.....I spend most of the day putting stuff away after my son has pulled stuff out! My first son didn't walk or pull himself up on furniture until he was 15 months, He was so fast crawling he couldn't be bothered trying to walk. I was worried about it to but all kids develop at different stages, my second son crawled at 8 and a half months but did'nt walk until he was around 13 months, and abby is already crawling she started at 6 months 1 week. I wish she hadn't she is so fast and much more trouble now. They all develop at different rates. Like you said hes rolling everywhere. A friends little boy didnt crawl just walked at about 14 months. But once he got the hang of it lookout. every child is different, but in saying that, i have been where you are now. Paris never learnt to roll, or crawl. all she could do until the age of 11 months is sit. that's it. no matter what i did she wouldn't roll, she hated tummy time, she wouldn't crawl. then she learnt to bum shuffle, and still that's all she could do. finally at about 14 months, she stood up against the sofa. from there we waited for her to walk. but she didn't, instead, she went back and filled in the gaps, she soon was rolling, and crawling, and then at 15 months she walked and we have never looked back. She's two on friday and it's pretty scary to think that 6 months ago she wasn't really even walking too great, today she skips runs, jumps hops. It may seem like it is taking forever, but he really will get there. appreciate the things he can do. and keep encouraging him.. that's all you can do. ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

thanks everyone for your help. i just hate to think that he was behind in his development (paranoid mum talking!)
i'm hoping to get into a playgroup of some sort very soon so that he can make some wee friends and perhaps being around others that are crawling and walking will encourage him to do the same. i'm not really in any hurry for him to move about more for my benefit of course  ------------- http://www.alternatickers.com">

that's a great idea. it was just after paris started daycare that she began really showing great progress in learning all those things. i think it may also have been because it was someone different trying to get her to roll and crawl and she had different incentives.. there were things other kids could get to that she couldn't.
it does feel stink when your kid is the only one not doing all this stuff, but paris always got attention cos she bum shuffled. hang in there ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

Dear Jacks mum, I can't speak about my baby (he's still in my tum!) But I was in a harness/cast for 6 months with clicky/dislocated hips as a baby. My parents remember that I didn't crawl for about a year, but they gave me plenty of daytime 'tummy-time' to strengthen my back. And one day I just took off crawling! Just when I thought I was ready...please don't worry, baby will be fine.

Hi Roksana! Yep have been 'off-line' for a few weeks really. Things have been a little insane, we move in a few days to our new house. My hubby has spent 4 weeks out of the last 6 weeks overseas on business, while we've had our house on the market!! Crazy times! Have you had your Polycose test yet? I had mine last week and tested positive for gestational diabetes!! Unreal aye, and I have always been a sports and nutrition freak (the occasional choc slipping in. Hi My son Caleb was a prem baby, 4lb8oz, he had a tiny body as he struggled to put on weight and a big head he didnt even lift his head of the ground until after 6mnths then struggled to sit alone till about 8mnths, at 13mnths he wasnt crawling because his head just looked to big for his body, then at about 14mnths he crawled to our delight, then 2weeks later he got up and walked, make the most of having a stationary baby, because least where you put them down theyl stay..lol I couldnt wait for him to move around, then when he did i appreciated the delay in it.. so dont stresss they'll do it when they are ready ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

I was supposed to go and get the blood test done last Sat, but got caught up with our new house. We have been cleaning the house for the last few weeks and because I am so slow the whole process has been going in snail pace. Finally we have every thing cleaned and moving in this Friday!
I am scared about the test; I was never a "sweet" eating person but recently have been really BAD! There is a thread on G Diabetes going on Pregnancy forum...but I think it makes the baby too big and therefore having complications at birth! But I think you can control it via good diet (what no chocolate??). I will let you know how I go with my test.....

To Jack's mum, my son is 18 and 1/2 months and has only in the last two months started to pull himself up on furniture and walk around it. He started to take a few steps on his own two weeks ago and everyday is more confident to take a few more. I to was worried as he rolled everywhere while others were crawling but was reassured by plunket and other parents that kids do their development in their own time. Having my son around other kids of similar age who were crawling and then on to walking (i think) has helped him to see what and how things are done. Also from an educational viewpoint, the longer they stay crawling the better for their learning, it has to do with crossing the mid line of their body, helps left and right brain functioning. Hope this helps and like others said talk to your doctor or plunket.
