I went to the plunket family centre today to get Josh weighed (just for me to see how he is going) and he has lost weight. So not what we were expecting. The plunket nurse told me to start solids but here's the problem - Josh isn't interested in eating food at the moment, I put the spoon in his mouth and he pushes it back out again. Should I just let it be and leave the solids thing and just wait and see what happens next monday when he gets weighed again, or try and get some food into him.
------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

If he's not interested in a spoon, maybe see if you can "fatten up" your bm. I wouldn't push a 4mo into solids, it's on the early side as it is. And you're going back to check in a month aren't you? That can give you an idea of progress.
Easily digested fats are vegetable fats, someone on here has a recipe for oatie biscuits (like ANZAC biscuits I think?) and my mw suggested coconut cream-based smoothies. Things like that may help. Your Josh looks healthy so I wouldn't panic yet. He may growth spurt at the 4 1/2 month mark anyway.

I'm with Teresa, don't rush into solids if he's not keen. I tried that with Maya just coz her weight gain had slowed and it didn't solve the problem. Maybe try some of the ideas to boost up your breastmilk or *shudder* try one bottle of formula a day to up his calorie intake.
My gremlins are still tiny eaters, they share one tin of food between them and sometimes don't even finish that, yet Maya at the same age would have 2 tins plus some crackers or toast.

I'm with the others in not pushing solids.
Maddie is not a huge eater compared to some. How much weight has he lost? My doc was really great when I was concerned about Maddie and said in the end you can't force them to eat. If he is doing well overall that is the main concern.
I also agree you could try to fatten up your breast milk. There is an excellent reicpe for lactation cookies which people swear by if you want to increase your supply. Let me know if you want it.

Do you think your milk supply may have gone down? Is he feeding as well as he used to?
Gina has had a few days where she's eaten hardly anything - in fact I was so worried I took her to the GP - nothing wrong thankfully. Of course I know how much she eats as I feed her EBM. My milk supply has gone down lately but I figured it's because I've been quite busy so not eating as well + I express full time so was blaming on that.
Can you give him solids thru a bottle or are Plunket suggesting solids to avoid giving bottle? I've been thinking on getting Gina started on something like this maybe but I'm def waiting until she's 6 months - she shows no interest in solids yet.

your milk def may need fattening up - ive expressed over past week at different times and one was really thick and fatty and another was watery....I used mums midwife tricks to fatten it up - and it does work...and am sure the cookies etc will help too....try that before solids...esp if you are still wanting to BF!
