I need some recommendations of girlie movies for next week, considering that I'll probably be going into a DVD store with three preschoolers and might not have much time to browse! I want to get out some movies that my DH wouldn't want to watch with me, I like romantic comedy (but not teen stuff like 13 going on 30; hot chick) and drama such as Legend of Bagger Vance.

I was thinking of getting out http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452594/ - The Break Up but perhaps something set in the "Ever After" type of era... and perhaps http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309912/ - Nicholas Nickleby but I'm not sure how that one will be.

Flow in the tide of suggestions!

I liked Love, Actually which surprised me coz I generally think Hugh Grant is a bit of a moron.

And I second The Princess Bride - but don't ever watch it with me coz I know all the lines! Best movie of all time!

Nicholas Nickelby is good too, but it's quite dark and depressing in places, I wouldn't really call it a 'girly movie'.

50 First Dates is a great one to watch with your DH, it's such a good movie. Love, Actually gets my vote as well. Ummmm...Empire Records (has a bit of a love story in it, kind of), Moulin Rouge, Singing in the Rain if you want something really old school! Big Fish is another good one (love Ewan McGregor). 10 Things I Hate About You. Oooh, now I want to go rent DVDs

Me too! Did you see Mandy Patinkin on Rove last year? Rove made him do the 'Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya...' line. I almost died with happiness!

Noooo! How did I miss that? I went to see The Princess Bride digitally remastered on the big screen at the Valhalla in Sydney a couple of years ago with my Mum, now THAT was cool!

If you want a good cry, Beaches always does it.
Love the Princess Bride, having the song at our wedding.
The Holiday is great.
Bridet Jones 1 and 2 - for Colin Firth
Love Actually - I'm a Liam Neeson fan myself.
The Wedding Singer,
Four Weddings and a funeral,
Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility if you like period films.

Oh wow, that would have been awesome!
Apparently Rove is a huge fan as well, after Mandy did the line Rove jumped up and fully kissed him! Hilarious! But exactly what I would have done. Sigh. Such a great movie.

Mean Girls is pretty funny too, although more of a teen movie than a rom/com.

When I was at uni a hundred years ago, my girlfriends and I used to get together every Friday night and watch Dirty Dancing in someone's dorm room. It got to the point where we could recite the whole script! Then we'd put on St Elmo's Fire and marvel at how young the Brat Pack looked.

So I think Dirty Dancing is the ultimate chick flick. ;)

The Notebook! I usually hate soppy movies and laugh at all the mushy bits instead of cry but every time I watch this movie I bawl my eyes out, it's soooooooooo sad and soooooooooo beautiful.

Highly recommended! My old flatmate and I would get a huge block of chocolate, a big box of tissues and then get into our PJ's and watch the Notebook.. Heh, I am pathetic.

I wanted storybook love at my wedding as our first dance song but DH was choosing that (had to give him something) so couldn't , but did get it for the song as we signed the register. And then (don't tell Mark Knofler) after my wedding my friend arranged Storybook Love for Feilding Brass to play it at the end of year concert last year. I was stocked as it was mentioned that it was written for me

Me too with the words I love it and DH hates it when I watch it as he can hear me talking when i'm watching.

It is seriously my favourite movie of all time.

Princes Bride is a great movie, its funny its teary and full of all the things movies should have.

Impossible to find a copy at the video store though.

Grease, the Sound of Music (some may think its for kids, I love it! Mum and I watch it together and sing along!), I second Nell *tae in the wind chickadee* (yes, I'm strange), dirty dancing, or if you don't like dirty dancing just forward it to the end with Patrick Swayze doing his sexy dance!

Big Fish was cool, I saw that recently.
What about ones like The Wedding Planner, Forest Gump (not really chick flicky but a good one), Patch Adams is one of my favs.

I agree with sarah beth about The Breakup. Seen the trailer? well, those are all the funny things. It made me upset.

If you can find a movie called "superstar" with Molly Shannon - the. best. dance. movie. ever. With the exception of Dirty Dancing and Footloose
