ok ladies, Dp has scrapped the invites we had and now wants to make them himself. Mainly because we don't want ornaments/gift vouchers/towels/sheets/photo frames etc. What we do want, however is a family holiday at plantation or mana island, so we have set up a gift regiater at Flight Centre. Thing is, how do we word this on our invites? you know, the we have lots of everything, thanks, if you want to get us something, would you like to contribute to our family holiday? AM really stuck, Need something witty and nice. (yep, I do realise that some people will buy us pressies instead of..)
So, all you smartypants witty writer ladies, please help me with a witty ditty!

have you checked out the wedding planner website? www.nzweddingplanner.co.nz The girls on there have HEAPS of ideas for different ways of wording invites. I have seen a few witty ones on there!

OK, sorry I didn't read the whole thing... you want something witty. Hrmmmm.

Something not witty, but very effective would be - "Don't buy us crap! Send us to an island!"

P.S. I'm still buying that pewter dragon holding a crystal ball we talked about

Do come talk to us over in NZWP land.

We are doing something similar, and are having an info sheet with the invite.

In lieu of gifts, 'F & P' have requested contributions towards our honeymoon.
Contact House of Travel blah blah.

we made up a poem in our invites. And i would get it out but i have no idea which box its in.

Had a girlie afternoon in the sun with my sister and friends (and wine) and we made up a cool poem.

sorry cant remember it but what it said but rhymed
we have been together for x years. And didnt need any traditional wedding gifts but i liue we would appreciate farmers vouchers to buy a fridge. (we went into great detail of how crappy our fridge was) in the end we had enough vouchers for a new fridge freezer and a F&P 7.5kg washing machine.

Try this one.

Because at first we lived in sin
We have the sheets and the rubbish bin
Consider our request & don’t take us wrong
We hope you understand
Please play along, as it will give
Our married life a hand
A gift of travel is all we require
To help us have the honeymoon we desire
We are heading to Tahiti on a "Travel Registry"
Where we hope to soak up the sun and sea
If you wish see our dreams unravel
Speak to (NAME) at (NAME OF TRAVEL AGENTY)
By cash, cheque or credit if you wish to help out
Just a phone call, no shopping is what it’s about
So now that we have saved you all the fuss
We just want you to come and celebrate with us

WTG Fleur!!!
Sorry Nikki can't say the crap bit got me

Or if you want something a bit more brief "To celebrate our wedding, we would love to take our kids on a family holiday blah blah and would appreciate monetary donations in lieu of wedding gifts". Not that that's witty either

What about, well now that the wedding's over you've probably had enough of us for a while - so why not help send our family overseas for a holiday while you recover from the event?

We registered at the FLight centre too but did not mention it on our invite. We got a pile of cards from the Flight centre to say we had registered there for a gift list. We included the little card together with our invite, RSVP card, map etc in the 'wedding invite pack'. I don't think there is a need to spell it out for people - they'll get the message. And in case you are wondering - most of our guests made a contribution rather than giving us other gifts. Good luck!

How about...

No presents, just your presence!

But if your keen to give us a treat,

A family trip would be quite neat.

A little island in the sun,

Where we can all relax and have some fun!

Flight Centre have it all in hand,

Help us find that sun and sand!

This isn't witty but might give you an idea of how we worded ours (although it was a wishing well). I can't remember the wording, so I'll just try anyway.

To our friends and family: it is your presence, not your presents, we request on our wedding day. As you are aware, we have already set up house and as such do not need any housewares. If, however, you would like to contribute to a gift for us we will be having a wishing well at the reception. Envelopes will be provided if you wish to make an anonymous donation towards our honeymoon in Thailand. We look forward to sharing our memories with you on our return.

But I don't think that's what you're looking for anyway, but oh well!

we wanted to do that but the parents thought it was rude - i didn't for the record. So we got the usual (although most apperciated and loved) We still got our honeymoon as I won a mystery trip 2 weeks before wedding Yay...

Good luck and i do like what simsam said too.

we did the same....put FC cards in with the invites but mum conned the girl at FC to go further...she set up a breakdown so people bought things like, our accomodation our rental car, ourdinner cruise, hampers, breakfasts etc...and some were vouchers from FC included with our itenarary and others were put by FC as cash onto our credit card. Mum paid for the flights and most of accomodation and park entry and whole honeymoon was a suprise to us....kept people like Minik8e guessing for yonks!!! People at flight centre did a great job and our guests totally got into it!

Am hoping ours will too! Where did you go? We are planning to got to Plantation island or Mana island, can't wait! I'm pleased it loks like lots of others have done the same. We just want to avoid the inevitable slew of mitre 10 vouchers (we have an account there, so If I want something, I just go and get it and "someone else" pays for it, lol) Platters (got 8 for engagement pressies even though we said no gifts) towels and sheets (replaced all just after Jake was born) and we are very fortuante enought to be able to afford to buy something if we want/need it. I know lots of people don't like it, especially older people, and we will still get some pressies, but thats cool. We jsut need a holiday, and all our spare money after the wedding is paid for is going towards a pool which we plan to put in for summer 2008 (woo hoo!!)

Hi ladies, it is a realy long time since I have posted on here - in fact it is pre "gremlins" being born! Although I have occassionally popped in to see what is happening - not that I expect anyone to go "ahhh yes I know you" (not). ANYWAY I am home from work today with Samuel as he is a little under the weather so thought I would pop on. We also used FC for our wedding and we had to pay for the holiday up front a few days before and then they deposited the money into our account. This was in Aussie and I am not sure if it was because we were off to Thailand about 4 days after the wedding. Also we didn't have the whole amount paid as it was about 5k and we only had 35 guests. But that may be worth a check with them. Congratulations on your new daughter and the wedding by the way fattartsrock!

I like Sim Sams one too. We are having a honeymoon/travel register. Everyone even my grandmother thinks its a great idea. So many of my mums wedding presents are still in the cupboard never use.
There are several ways of doing it, book the travel you want and then the money goes towards it, or see how much you get then book your holiday. Depends if you want to go straight away.
I am in need of a new passport so am waiting to get it issued in my married name, we are going to the UK in July which is 3 months after the wedding.
