My nearly 2yo has what I suspect is an ear infection (cause we've all had a cold and Krystiana has just had an EI as well)... apart from medicine (which I've given her but it hasn't kicked in yet), what TLC can I give her? I thought about a lollipop but we've run out Is ice drink/ icecream good?

When Andrew had his I gave him anything he wanted to keep him happy. I just sasked him out of what we had and he was usually happy with it. If you can raise the end of her bed so much easier for her to get to sleep and stay asleep.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Aww, poor Briona! Ear infections are no fun for anyone, and it's so hard when they're suffering and all you can do is wait...

Emma Rose has been an earinfectionmonster since she was about 10 months old, so this is what our GP suggests:

  • If on antibiotics, make sure to take them until they're finished, even if the symptoms abate before the antibiotics are gone.
  • Fill a hot water bottle with warm (not hot) water, wrap it in a towel, and have the child hold it against their ear. The warmth may provide some relief.
  • Keep the child upright, if they are feeling up to it -- laying down increases the feeling of inner-ear pressure and pain.
  • Stick to drinking clear fluids like clear juices and water, as milk is associated with mucous production.

So how about a juice popsicle instead of icecream? (mmm, now I want one!)

Hehe Katherine, funny you suggest that because that's exactly what she got last night! It was really unlike her, she didn't eat any dinner but I opened the freezer to put something away and she saw the iceblocks (which we haven't had for eons!) and asked for one - and I thought, yea why not LOL

Okay wanted to reply yesterday but was logged in on hubby's acount on the mac and too lazy to log into oh baby. Mmmm really lazy over this side.

McKayla had a really bad earinfection a few weeks ago. She literally only wanted fluids and guess what the freaking boobs. Okay that one wont work in your situation.

Ice lollies might help a lot although it might be too cold. She literally wanted to be cuddled up and keep on rubbing her hair. She didnt like the tv on at all and she would start crying so be careful with certain stuff around her. The vacuum and kettle set it off as well.

Otherwise pretty much anything that will help her. Watch her speech for two months afterwards. Certain words might change but it should go back within a month. If not keep an eye on it another month and then go get it checked up as the fluid in the ear might not have drained properly and can cause tempory hearing loss.

Hope your girl feels better quite soon.

Thanks everyone, she had two bad nights (it's tough at 6pm when Hannah's hungry, I'm hungry, Krystiana wants solids and Briona only wants cuddles... and DH not home from work yet!) and things seem a lot better now. She's been sleeping a bit more that usual too. The iceblock seemed to cheer her up, probably just cause it's a treat - and then last night we sat around and read stories for a while (Briona was tucked under my arm and Krystiana on my knee, both crying and both setting each other off and then Hannah started mucking around cause she was missing out on the attention!!!!!!!!!) Anyway I digress LOL
