Hi all,
As an ex Karitane Nurse/ and also since 2001 a trained Nanny after reading some of the problems you guys have with babies not sleeping and feeding issues as well I wish the Karitane Hospitals were still around. |

| Yeah I think they should be. I think they were similar to what the Mothercraft Unit at Waikato Hospital is like, and its so good there. It really helped us, and I know the others on here that have gone found it very worthwhile too. |

yes definitely simalar to Mothercraft unit at waikato Hospital,
We had a Mothercraft unit at the hospital where Mums could stay with their babies, then we had a prem ward, a general ward where we had babies who were bottle fed and came in for feeding or sleepimg problems and also a toddlers ward again for feeding or sleeping problems with toddlers |

oH that sound's so good. My Mum(not real one) is ex Karitane ans she is awsome source of some great info, but not everone is that lucky so I reakon if some of you ladies got together it could be an awsome thing for Mum's. No affence to plunket, but they jsut don't have the time or rescorces to do more. (Oh Mum is in Taranaki not Auckland). ------------- Deborah Mum to:

On the contrary, when I had trouble with settling Briona for sleep, Plunket in Palmy were pretty good. -------------  |

Don't they have the family plunket centres where you book in for full days so they can help you go through sleep and eat routines to assist with settling and stuff? I am sure we talked about that in antenatal. -------------

Miss, it probably depends on where you are situated (ie Auckland vs Palmy etc). In Palmy, you just pop in, you can borrow books and videos or even stay there to watch/read them, and they'll stay with you and answer all your questions for as long as you need. They would have had no problems if I had stayed all day. ------------- |

| Yep they do have the family centres in Auck,...I ened up going all the way up there in Jan to get help. They were great but at Mothercraft you live in fulltime Mon- Fri with your baby, so help is on hand 24 hrs a day. It was awesome. |

Wow we had so much trouble getting support from plunket that we changed provider. Like I said I am lucky cause i have a resource close, but not everyone has that and the idea of being a ble to go away for a week with jsut baby and having 24 hour support would be so good. ------------- Deborah Mum to:
