Now, I'm looking at another week or two at least. Basically, thecar has been to the doctor, and now it has to go to the specialist.

I took Al down to the garage so they could explain to him what had gone wrong ... I'm such a girl!

(BSDH - from what we can tell from what we've been told, they turned the engine over while the timing on the cam belt was out and possibly bent a valve. The compression test on the cylinder is only 40 PSI. They're removing the head and sending it to reconditioners tomorrow)

Absolutely they are! I got the impression that they might try and claim the mechanical fault under the warranty that I have for the car, and I don't have a problem with that, but I'm not paying any excess on it, that's for sure. They wrecked it, they can fix it. The guy I spoke to earlier in the day acknowledged that the problem is a result of something they did when working on the cam belt.

I just want to get rid of the courtesy car - it's a $1000 excess if I do anything to it! But, it's going to be another couple of weeks

They did mention the piston bearings? I think ... Anyway, as soon as I said 'pistons' - that was about when DH swallowed his tongue and decided he was going down there to find out what was what.

And I'm guessing it was a green (as in inexperienced) mechanic! I hope!

We had fun with our car recently too. It had a service, 2 weeks later we tok it back as it was doing funny clutch things and while they were diagnosing it the groomer broke the aerial. so it went in for a new clutch and then had to go back for the aerial and then needed a new cam belt and now the groomer has pinched our fuel dockets!!!!

*Makes mental note never to buy a Holden*

I imagine that had the mini-BS been in the car, it would have been a quick broken window! Well, it would have if I'd been there (and BSDH was nowhere near to wring my neck for breaking his car ... more ... ).

I'm almost convinced that a horse and buggy is the way to go ... just giving myself a little more time after this afternoon's thunder and lightening storm (which, incidentally I was walking the dogs in! I bailed on work after getting released from jury duty. Naughty naughty!!)

I hope they sort your car out though BSDH - I'm so close to demanding a new car (don't know how far it'd get me but still!), you must just about be there already!

Nothing wrong with Holdens!!!! just having a bad day...Is the mechanic your car is with an MTA approved repairer? If they are you may have some come back with them(MTA)for the poor work manship etc on your Polo...

Goodness ... I was thinking more along the lines of a Honda Civic I'm all about the living dangerously!

I phoned the garage this morning since I hadn't heard anything and gave them a blast for not keeping me informed about what they're doing to my car! They've resurfaced the cylinder head and relapped the valve because it wasn't seated properly ... no idea what that means, I'm just annoyed that I had to ring them again to find out what's happening. Plus, the car is still in bits and they're waiting on parts. NO idea what parts!

I'm really wobbling over whether to get rid of the car or not - getting work done on it is either going to be very expensive (going to a VW specialist) or a complete c*ck up (going to a non-VW specialist) AND very expensive ... and time consuming! Argh! I don't know what to do. I suppose I should just get the car back, save for a bit for a new one, and then see if I still want to flick it. Assuming it doesn't break again when I get it back of course

That's a shame about the Ford really because I can get good deals on Fords

That's what I'm hoping BS! Fingers crossed! When you look at the money I'd have dropped too ... eek! I might look at something a little bigger in 6 months perhaps, when we have an idea about IVF etc. Something a little bigger for a kidliwink 6 months is a good time to save for too, it will stop me from impulse buying anything!! In theory
