Hi everyone I'm new here, and newly pregnant too. Big surprise to all, especially me as I'm not supposed to be able to have children. I'm experiencing cramps similar to period pains, and also niggles on my lower left, around where I guess my ovary would be. Is this normal?? I don't want to be a hypochondriac and be at the doctors all the time, but don't want to miss something important happening. Anyone had this before??

Hi and welcome to Oh Baby! How far along are you? It could just be your uterus etc. stretching, I had a few pains like that early on. If you are worried or unseure just ask your LMC or doctor.

Congratulations by the way!

Thank you I'm really pleased to have found this site - it's really informative, and nice to have somewhere to go and ask questions of other mums and mums-to-be. My best friend said it may be stretching too, but I wanted to get a second opinion! I'm only 7 weeks along, so still aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to go!

Hi and Welcome to Ohbaby...

If you are having really bad cramps then it might not be a good sign...but small ones might not be so bad. As long as you dont have these cramps with bleeding.

I am a first time mum to be and I go to the Docs when I feel unsettled about some thing. If it is concerning you then you should go and see a Doc. My midwife said when you are pregnant, no question is a stupid question......hope all is well!

I'm Clare, and I'm in Auckland I'm pretty freaked out by the whole situation at the moment, but will get there! Once I have the all clear and can relax and enjoy being pregnant I'm sure everything will be great!

Congratulations on the birth of your little one! Feels like a lifetime away for me right now!

Hay clare! I'm new too haha, a lil bit of cramping is normal as long as no bleeding. It's just your uterus, ligaments and muscles stretching! I had stabbing pains a while back but nothing too dramatic. My midwife just said I had very tight tummy muscles and they're just tryna loosen up and move. um I had a small bleed at 6 and 7 weeks but all is well and I'm nearly 17 weeks now! take care hun and just make sure to call for help if things change or you're really worried! {oh & it only felt like yesterday I was at your stage, goes quick, eek! hehe}

Hey I'm Janine and ihave PAris (2) and Ayja (3.5 months). I had those type of cramps with Ayja and they really un-nerved me cos i never had them with PAris. they were there constantly... nothing huge, but enough for me to notice them. I also had a pain on my left side every once and a while, and asked my midwife about it.. she said it could be the start of a UTI which can be quite common in pregnancy... so try drinking more water and maybe a little cranberry juice and see if that helps with the pain on your left side. If the cranberry juice is too strong you can always mix it with lemonade... that's what i did and it takes the bite off the cranberry juice (make sure it's actual juice, not just cranberry drink... big difference)

congrats on your pregnancy... it will fly by all too fast!

Thank you It is pretty bl**dy amazing!! It is really easy to freak out at every little niggle and pain, but so far no bleeding or sharp pains at all. I am getting pretty excited actually - well, when I'm not over the toilet bowl that is! Anyone else sick all day and night?? Only time I get relief from it is whwn I am sleeping!!

Yes I remember doing that...oh what was that....oh what is this..oh......You get over that stage.

I had no morning sickness at all...not even for a day. The only smell that I could not stand was fish....other than that I was normal. I know a lady (who is due in 3 days) she was sick the whole time (night and day). She carried a bucket in her car......man...but for most it does ease up/stop a bit later.

Get a ticket Clare so that we can follow how far along you are......You are 7 weeks and a bit, right?

Aaaah, the fond memories of throwing up all day every day - NOT! I found lemonade iceblocks helped (apparantly helps to keep your blood sugar up coz if it drops it makes the ms worse), and having small sips of water. I tried some NaturoPharm stuff called MorningMed but it wasn't much help. Other than that, dry toast and marmite and bananas seemed to help. But I pretty much lived on the iceblocks.

Morning everyone! Well, if I thought I was suffering before, it's nothing compared to now! Since last night I have been throwing up every half an hour or so - just threw up in the kitchen at work cos one of my Indian workmates came in smelling of curry. Is this normal??? It's awful! I don't want to go offending people cos they smell different to what I'm used to, but I don't think I'm going to be able to help it. Please help!!

Just go home if you're that unwell hun!! I took ridiculous amounts of half days & so on through the start of my pregnancy! So sick, I could only sip on ginger ale, have crackers and pineapple fruju's for 2 months.
It is awful huh? Hope you feel a lil better soon Clare. It sucks, I'd throw up at the smell of anything burning, the liquid soap in toilets and just lil stupid things! Be strong !

Hey Clare, if you find yourself getting too sick, don't hesitate to see your doctor. I had chronic morning sickness all thru my whole pregnancy and just suffered thru it thinking it was part of pregnancy. I was so sick that some days I threw up blood because there was nothing else left in me.
I was talking to my GP at Maya's 6-week check and she said that I probably had something called Hyperemesis Gravida (sp?) which is a severe form of ms. It can be a worry coz you can dehydrate, but there are medications they can give to help ease it. I soooo wish I had seen her before Maya was born - the ms is one of the reasons I am reluctant to have another baby.

PS Lizzle, I never tried Mentos but I did chew mint flavoured chewing gum the whole time. Maybe it's the mint that helps?

Hi Clare! Welcome, my mum told me to eat half a papaya a day to combat morning sickness when I found out I was pregnant. But then I never had morning sickness, and before you say ooh lucky you, my lucky dip pick was shocker abdominal pain in the first and second trimester from a 'stuck' uterus in my pelvis and ended up leaving work I was so useless. I think a papaya a day would have been nicer!! But everything worked out well by itself and now our little boy is not far away. All those niggles and sickies seem like distant memories in the excitement to meet our son!

Its funny Naomi...some say you get no morning sickness if you are having a boy....and some say the opposite! You are having a boy and had no morning sickness and I am having a girl and I had no morning sickness.

About the papaya thing...I heard the opposite ...I was told to stay away from Papaya and Pineapple as they cause miscarriages...???

Man after reading these posts I feel so lucky that I haven't suffered too badly with morning sickness! The most I've had was a bit of a queasy tummy & an aversion to certain foods. I have had cravings for McDonald's though! Like you, Clare, I hadn't eaten it in years but all of a sudden have developed massive cravings for their cheeseburgers!!

LMAO Claire, I was outside the Glen Innes KFC! Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I did crave Subway vege subs, the only takeaways I could stand.

And I was so gutted, on my friends birthday we went to Hammerheads, and I spent $60 on my dinner and then went home and threw up all over the front doorstep. I could have eaten a $2 burger instead and not wasted all that money!

We are taking my step children to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tomorrow - think there may be a trip to have a Happy Meal afterwards I think they are going to love their stepmummy being knocked up - get more junk food!! My partner has had more scrambled eggs in the last couple of weeks than ever in his life!! We seem to have had similar experiences with ms - although hopefully mine is almost gone......

I see it and think mmmm orange choc chip icecream, and then get something different... oooh except when i was preg with ayja... we got a "awesome foursome" tub of ice-cream that had goody goody gum crops and cookies and cream and something else... and then we got one with lime choc chip, orange choc chip and vanilla choc chip and i scoffed them before mike even knew they were open lolol!

Mmmmm, ice cream! I just remembered when I was preg with Maya I scoffed a baked potato with cheese and sour cream, then a huge bowl of that jelly tip icecream. Then I got to relive it over again in reverse

I hope the ms is almost over for you Claire. Most women find that it gets a lot better after 13 weeks, or if not then, after about 16 weeks. It's to do with the levels of hCg in your blood which actually drop as the pregnancy progresses.

I'm loving Bounty bars and tinned peaches and grapes - dunno if that can be called real cravings or not!! Am well and truly over the McChickens - had one today and threw it up. Nice.

Me too I'm trying really hard to not complain, but failing miserably. You girls who have had no sickness are so lucky. I wish I was like you!!

Emma, there is also something to suggest that the morning sickness, and indeed all day sickness is due to low blood sugar levels too.. since baby is using such a huge amount of energy... hence why light snacks throughout the day is usually pretty good for it... otherwise Ms symptoms are quite the same as a diabetic that has really low blood sugar levels... makes sense really. either way theres a heap of theories on it, very few of which actually have any concrete evidence on them.

MMMM roksana, i love getting a piece of choc cake, with icing on it, zapping it in the microwave to make it hot and the icing melts and turns to choc sauce, then i add cream or icecream to it and milk sometimes too. yummy, haven't done it in a while though cos for some very sad reason i can no longer handle things that are too sickly and indulgent... how sad...

My hubby very casually said to me the otherday..."you know babe...you have to cut down on some of the things you eat now after the baby is born.....and oh you should take the baby for walks"...you calling me fat? was my next question??? tho I know what he meant....I have been eating to much junk lately...I was never like that before I got pregnant!!!
