My DH is feeling a bit puffed up tonight I think He insists that if women's men went with them to do the grocery shopping, the women would most definitely stick to their list and budgeting would then be a piece of .... well not cake, because you wouldn't have bought it.
Is he right? I know some men are like that but I would have thought the majority of men would say "oh we don't usually get that, let's just chuck that in the trolley too" etc etc etc.

when lewis comes shopping we have unexpecte biscuits that "jump" into the trolley along with beer. it all gets blamed on Taine.

Definately not in our case, if I go by myself I stick to the list and top up if something extra is on a super special (eg cleaning stuff or toilet paper). If DH comes along, I get to the check out and there are lollies, chips, coke - if its bad it ends up in our trolley if he comes! And he always has to go shopping when he is starving hungry, so we spend a fortune!
We also play a little game at the checkout as to what the bill will come to, you know he is always smack bang on and I am way out (by the way we don't add up as we go around, its just a wild guess) other couples have overheard us at the checkout and played our little game too!

DH always tells me what we didn't need etc and says if we went we would spend less.
HOWEVER the three weeks he did the shopping after I had Abby he spent heaps more than I do!

We always spend more when DH comes shopping with me - plus he drives me crazy as he insists on pushing the trolley - and usually ends up about 3 aisles ahead... me with armfuls of shopping trying to catch up!

we both go shopping.. always, BOTH of us together, sometimes with both the kids but mainly lately just us two.
from my experience, he is the one that chucks all the bikies int he trolley, and the one that grabs muffins for the kids, and 3 packs of naturals snake lollies (cos they were 3 for $5 of course)and 4 big bottles of coke, just for him, and two blocks of choccy, and 3 packs of muesli bars, get the point?..
yes mike is a sugar junkie.. but whatever, i tend not to try and buy junk cos i know i'm the one that ends up eating it. he gets it on the proviso that apparently i shoul dhavem ore will power and just not eat it. hello.. if you know you're not gonna get any cos i'll eat it all, why buy it anyway, you'll save us money and you'll stop my thighs from getting any bigger!!
taking a man shopping DOES NOT save you money, lol

Suuuuuuuure all you women folk jump on the bandwagon. Busymum missquoted me anyway. What I SAID was not DH go with you, i said DH does the shopping. No more chocolate extras. no more extra stuff. just a plain old list and what goes on it.
...like esentials like beer and chips...

ok if Dh comes with me to do the fortnightly shopping we spend more.
If i send him to the supermarket for certain thingss ie tonight dog food and sandwiche meat thats what he comes home with where I would of picked up a few extra things that I forgot we needed.
so thats doesn't solve anyones arguement there, does it?

he he, yeah if DH does the shopping himself he saves money... we just run out of toilet paper, feminine products, kids stuff, and all other essential stuff. he saves money by rationalising buying utter crap by cutting out the good stuff!

I would never trust DH to do more than pick up a couple of things I specify on his way home...having had a FULL description...and then he adds crap to what he buys too...or a boat magazine etc etc....
and he is a nightmare to take food shopping...think i have told u about him putting condoms in peoples trolleys, putting cakes in when noone is looking to others trolleys, pikcing up stuff for ours with an oh so innocent look.....he is painful - and any of you who have met him can envisage this i am sure!

Well mine is far better at sticking to a list than me so I have no problem with him coming with me. I find it easier him coming with me so one can get the food and the other usually holds Josh.
chovynz go shopping for your beer tomorrow at PNS

I never let mine come with me- I get nagged because "do we really need orange juice" yet he will buy tonnes of cr*p because its on 'special'. He thinks by buying things on special we are saving money- but if they are thing we wouldn't have bought in the first place it doesn't count! He almost bought BBQ coal the other day because it was 2 for the price of 1... we have a GAS BBQ

We spend way to much if hubby comes to and it takes 10x longer!
The only time I let him come is when we do our big xmas shop and spend out xmas club vouchers cos they are for all the little extras that he tends to put in the trolly.

My hubby is a mess at groceries. We always spend more if he is there. When he goes on his own - even with a list - he spends waaaaaaaayyyyyy more that I ever would and when he takes Christopher OMG!! I can just picture them dancing and singing down the aisles putting everything in their trolley, overjoyed that stingy mum isn't there to keep them in check.

Just to get milk and bread he is great. But get some biscuits ect as well usually.
For a big shop I will never ever sent him on his own. He will be there 10 minutes and come back and say it was overcrowded or he couldnt find the stuff on the list. He hates shopping.
But about once a month he will come with me and push the trolley and keep bubs busy for me. and yip I do stick to my list but at the same time he will usually get a treat as well like marsmallows or something like that and McKayla get something like a muffin. For being my two behaved kids.

DH is good when he goes shopping by himself. Too good. Not a single bag of chips or marshmellows or anything extra goes in the trolley when shopping solo. We normally grocery shop together and when I don't go it's because I'm sick - so no treats for the sick girl even if I add them to the list. So we try and double team.

I am really lucky - DH hates the supermarket, but he will go if I give him a list. In fact he volunteers as he knows how stressful I find it at the moment. He is fantastic....he will always get the brand I like, and if they dont have it he will call to check that another brand is okay. Very well trained I think! He doesnt buy extras either, but will sometimes buy me a 'treat'...very sweet.
He always helps me unload the shopping and put it away as well....
Gosh I am a lucky girl!!

OH to go shopping on my own ... I pray every weekend that he'll suddenly decide that he doesn't want to go anymore... alas every weekend he wants to come. I have to admit he's pretty good, but can be quite pedantic about meat selection, drives me insane At the moment it's good having him tag along because I need someone to push the trolley and unload the trolley as my tummy doesn't quite allow me easy access to get things out of it, especially the stuff at the bottom.

If Daniel goes by himself I have to right a very very detailed list (brand, flavour, colour etc) and he just doesnt know how much to get, like meat, no way near enough. And he gets beer!

DF is funny when it comes to shopping... he does try to stick to the budget and the list (which is good) but when it comes for one of those random nights you both go to the supermarket and say "what do you feel like, hun?" he gets all impatient and wants me to hurry up and get something and be done with it. Then you take whatever you picked home and then he doesnt feel like it anymore.

DH hates grocery shopping with a pashion when he does have to come he winges and mones if i take too long looking for a cheeper alternative. we always spend heaps more because i am not aloud to look for the cheep stuff and get stuff on special we have to be in and out as fast as posiable. if i did send him by himself he would get every thing on the list and he would probally only add beer.
