Hi ya
Not meaning to be nosey. Just curious.
I have had my power with Mercury forever. Recently when moved into new house we switched back to T'Power because of the friends and family discount and also the 15% prompt payment discount...... Oh and the cheque you get once a year.

HOWEVER..I got our first bill which was for 53 days and it was $422!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With all the discounts it will be $379.

I just about died. In my whole life I have never had a power bill of over $170?
We do of course have Blake and have had his oil heater on quite a lot plus I guess he uses a bit more water etc..But still I just cant believe it.

What are your monthly bills..for how many peeps? And which company do you find cheap???

We were on Genesis, they are cheap but they could never get our DD right (pulled out $130 instead of $85 etc, more than once! ) so we switched to Contact. A bit dearer but at least they get it right. We also have the 10% discount and last month we got our first bill over $200 for the year. It was $220 and usually we are about $180 I think. It's the start of the winter thing.

But.. we have no wired-in heating (portable lpg only), a sun-filled home, and I hate using the dryer. Do have elec&gas lines though

Oh yea - 3ad,3ch, 5bd house but it's two storey so our floor area is only 160m2 incl garage .

HOLY - Id die to if my bill was that much. Id probably be a bit suspect about it & check out things like your hotwater cylinder. That just doesnt sound right..

I pay 2 separate bills for power..
1 to The Lines Company (TLC) for lines lol of about $30
& 1 to King Country Energy (KCE) for power of about $60

All up i never pay more than $100p/m oh & we have wetback going in winter

ETA We also use a heatpump & dryer etc

Ours arrived today for $240, thats for 2 adults + 3 kids in a 4 bedroom. That's a pretty average winter bill running a small oil fin heater in the gremlins room and Maya's, and using the dryer most days. Plus hot water etc. most days we run two baths, one for the kids and one for Willie.
Summer monthly bill is usually about $160.

we had a huge bill last month, but we had just replaced our leaking hot water cylinder, so hoping it will get better. i have the 2 oil heaters on for the girls, and i use the dryer far too often *cough, lazy, cough* plus the tv on all day.

but i tried explaining to x that she had to give up her playhouse disney to help us all save power, and she just didnt get it. told me to turn off my computer too even! as if!!

We are with Mercury and currently the bills are coming at in at about $170 p/m (after prompt payment discount)...usually it's only about $120 or so for the 2 1/2 of us.

We've just switched to Meridian so I'm wondering how much our first power bill with them will be. We just moved house last month into a bigger place, it is FREEZING in all the rooms that aren't heated. Not much sun here yet, so it doesn't get warm during the day, but I use a clothes rack to dry the clothes and it seems to work quite well.

Last winter with Genesis our power bills averaged $220. In the summer it was about $80.

We are with Contact and we have power and gas (hot water and cooking) and we pay about $150 a month after the PP discount. We once had a power bill of $2000 , it was because the stupid meter reader put the wrong digit down and was way out. Have a look at your meter to see if it is close to what is on your bill, if its was over ring and get a new reading and bill. We did when we got that bill and it only ended up being $70 for the power (thats usual for us).

Kelpa - did you take a meter reading when you moved into the house??? The last time I got a power bill like that after I'd just moved into a house, it was because the last tenants hadn't taken a final reading, so I was paying for their power as well (power company has waaaaay under-estimated and couldn't get access to the house for an actual read). We pay around $100 a month for 2 adults, dryer used most days, we have a wet-back but hardly use it at the moment, and no electric heaters.

Ours is between $60 and $100 with Mercury. We dont have a dishwasher. We also dont have heated towel rails. Everything is power and not gas in the house. I tended to use the dryer a lot lately. About 3 times a week. I have been doing washing about once to twice a day. Currently it is for 3 adults and one child. Each one showers ect. And I bath with McKayla as well.

I think it might be a bit higher this month as our guest had a electrical blanket plus we used the heater quite often as well.

Ours is generally around $140p/m. 4 bdrm house 3 peeps. We do have a kent fireplace, so that heats half the house, but our electricity suckers would be 2 tvs and playstation, 2 comps and washing machine/dryer....

Ours is usually about 120 a month, but I'm scared about the actual read one which will come next since we now have an oil heater going to keep daniels room warm plus the gas heater going to keep the living room warm for me

Ours is usually about $80-90 after the prompt payment discount, we're with Meridian and have been with contact before. That's for 2 of us only though, and we close off every part of the house except our bedroom and the living areas. We heat through a logburner so that's not included either. If you think you could get better, go on to the power saver website and they'll tell you the best deal for your situation.

Im with genesis and mine is pretty high too at the moment $307 was my last one and I only use the dryer once a week and have limited the shower time as well as the baths per week. I use an gas heater during the day and an oil heater at night in my room for Alize. I think mine has to do with my thermostat on my hot water cylinder so Ive rung the landlord to check it out for me. Hes hasnt got back to me yet either so first thing tomorrow I will be on the phone to him again.
