Ok on Friday night I got a phone call from the hospital I used to work for in Spain, they are doing research in to something (haven’t been told yet) and need a psychologist. It would be a great opportunity to get my name out there. But the down side is we would have to move to Spain for the next 2 years, put TTC #3 on hold and basically uproot our whole lives. Hubby is ok with it, its just me, I mean before babies I was career driven and would have taken the job in a heart beat, but that not me anymore. So what do you think I should do?

hmm thats a hard one. i would consider a few points: will you be likely to get that sort of opportunity in NZ?
do you think you would get an offer like that again?
how close did you imagine your kids would be in age?
and i guess your age would need to be taken into account also, if you would put off having another baby for another 2 years.
without trying to sway you, how cool that you get the chance to go live in spain for 2 years!
good luck making that decision.
(and by the way, my girls at 3 years apart, and so far so good. i keep getting told they will be friends, then wont be friends, but will be friends again when they are adults)

i would go - i have friends who had a transfer to belgium with two wee ones (one was a bubba!!) and the kids will get so much from the experience...they speak french etc now and have travelled sooo much...and with kids you arent so self absorbed in your travels you open your eyes little more....
i would love to do what you are being offered....what an awesome opportunity!
my vote - GO!

Hmm it's a hard one! If it was me I'd probably think... would I regret it if I DIDN'T go? And would I regret it if I DID go? And then think about which one I'd regret more... lol I dunno

I'm with the others I'd go!
Just other things to think about:
Do you get lots of support from family/friends here, would you cope without it?
Do you speak Spanish?
Would you have to pay to transfer yourself there, if so would it be manageable for you?
Houseing ok to come by?
Think that's all I can come up with.
Oh and your photo with your baby is beautiful. Think that every time I see it.
Goodluck making a decision.

Well I'm like you - I used to love my job completely but now my heart's just not in it. Just because I'm enjoying being a mum so much and I can see this will be my 'life' as it were for a while yet. So, I'd actually vote down (if it were me). But the big question for me would be to consider what work you want to get into after the kids are older, and if that will be anytime in the near future or this thing will be kinda outdated experience by the time you get back in the field?

I would say go, Lucy would get to learn Spainish and you would be doing something you love. My boys are almost 3 years apart and its great that Andrew is that little bit older to know to wait for me to finish up with Josh and is also old enough to do things by himself.

Yep I would definitely consider it if DH was offered the job. And especially if he had already been there (language, culture, all that). IMO that is different though, since I am the primary caregiver of our kids.

It sounds like a fantastic opportunity, but from reading your post it does sound like you have already made up your mind to stay at home.
Go with your gut instinct. And whatever your decision have no regrets.

I don't know how long it's been since you worked for that spanish hospital the first time, (you don't mention if DH is kiwi or spanish) but if you liked it then perhaps your family would like to experience it (or experience it again). You know what it's like over there so it wouldn't be entirely 'foreign' for you ...
Two years isn't such a long time. NZ and your OB buddies will still be here while you're abroad and when you're finished.
I'd take the opportunity.

could you do a trial?
I lived in japan and so did Jake for a year and he loved it BUT he was very little and some things were made very difficult due to the language barrier (and I can actually speak conversational) - going to the doctors was very hard, getting appropraite baby foodwas also difficult as I couldn't read the packages and ingrediants list. aside from this, the experience was awesome. jake was fawned on everywhere we went - so much so that he actually cried when we got to NZ and someone didn't smile at him on the train. He even modelled there a couple of times (skiting mama now)
the experience we had had many more highs than lows. oNe of the reasons we came back (aside from being pregnant with taine) was my hours. i left at 7:30am, got home at 6:30pm and basically saw Jake for only a few hours a week. He hurt himself once and refused to come to me, prefering his Dad and that hurt me a lot.
My hubby worked, but will yours be able to? sometimes suddenly being a SAHD can effect guys a lot - macho things like not "bringing home the bacon" and stuff - not my hubby but hey, he's happy for me to earn more money - in fact he encourages it, but i do know he struggled with staying at home with the boys.
a lot to think about. good luck

Wow Annie how exciting!! I think if my dh was offered an opportunity like that he'd take it for sure (I'm not in a position to work, nor have those sorts of qualifications). Good on you - spain is a lovely country, I'm jealous . Your little girl can learn 2 languages, how great for her. ALL THE BEST .
