I can't believe it. I went to our local Warehouse today to buy a DVD, and the security guard accused me of shoplifting! I am seriously the least likely looking shoplifter on the planet!   This is in a store full of shifty looking teenagers, and they pick on the person pushing a baby in a pram! Apparently it seems she thought I had two DVD's when I only had one! She even wanted to go through my nappy bag to double check! I refused to let her look. I showed her my receipt and had already walked past the security scanners when she stopped me. I am so annoyed I can't even express how much!   I must have had steam coming out my ears! The thing that annoyed me the most, is once she realised she was in the wrong she wouldn't apologise!
I will never use that store again! This is after some truly appalling service from them last week when I was trying to find a leappad for Sam. What is happening to the Customer Service standards in that place! Honestly!
OK....Rant over. Just not what I needed to have happen on my Birthday

That really sucks. And worse that the person didn't apologise. How rude. Def not what you needed on your birthday. Hope that the day ends on a really good note.

Serious!?!?!?! Complain big time. Write a letter (if you can) or ring and speak to the manager that is so wrong.

I agree - complain complain complain. You have every right to be angry and you absolutely deserve an apology.

Thanks everyone. I actually had been starting to wonder if I was over-reacting. I understand the women had a job to do, but how hard would it have been to say she was sorry

they do seem to jsut randomly pick people,i had a security guard folow me round the warehosue once, and i dont look like someone who'd theive anything.

i find it even more mbarrasing when you pay for something and the things go off, the warehouse is shocking for that.

they couldve siad sorry for the misunderstanding, esp for the embarrassment of it all.
hope your bday got better,

Ok so I have not read other people's reply to this (not enough time) so if I repeat then sorry, but i would be writting a letter addressed to the manager.  explaining that this was unfair.  If this get's no response then I would be going further.  Places like these have really good camera's there should be no excuse for accusing an innocient person.  I would push this till you get action on this one.   Places like this need to learn that the coustmer come's first.

I agree with what everyone else has said. Write a letter of complaint.
I just think that is so rude! She could of at least apologised!

We are forever getting followed around, my DH is covered in tattoo's so they seem to think the worst....argh

Do write that letter - yes, they have a job to do (acknowledge that in the letter) but they should have the people skills to apologise if they wrongly accuse someone. I would be so angry too.

Sometimes they target people with pushchairs because they are easy places to hide things.
Both my family and my inlaws are in retail and have had numerous instances of people tucking things in the parcel trays, or worse, under their babies!
BUT! It sounds like the person who stopped you was really rude and insensitive about it, and I'd be writing a letter if it were me. Its shocking that she mucked up and didn't have the grace to apologise. Surely she knew how embarrassing and upsetting it would be for you?!

what is stupid is that I actually nearly stole something from the warehouse the other day and no one at all noticed. got to the doors, walked out and realised I had something in my hand. went back and paid but the security guard didn't even see. and yet someone like you who has done nothing wrong gets in trouble....

Chovy here cuz i cant log in on my a/c at the mo.

I'd complain nicely. Theres an art to complaining which some people have and some dont. remember that the people your writing to probably wont know anything about the issue. They may take a polite complaint better than a nasty one or you might get a better result.

my 2 cents. I hope the rest of the week went better for you.

That sucks, and you should follow it through,

On another note sorry but you would be surprised at some people who are shoplifters, I was a manager in a major retailer for many years and in honesty what does a shoplifter look like???

And yes they should have apologised to you that is just plain rude!

The interesting thing is even though most shops have signs saying bags will be searched etc in the front window legally you do not have to agree to being searched. The most they can do is call the police (who have better things to do and would probably say tough!) or ban you from the store, usually for a year.

I don't usually get stopped (though my handbag is huge!) but if I do I just open it whereas my husband has a bit of an issue with the whole searching thing and he reckons he will refuse to be searched if he gets asked. And press assault charges if they try and search him without his permission
