God I seem to be starting a million topics in here at the moment...
Ok seeing as me and DH are not getting any younger and we have another on the way ( fingers crossed) I thought it was about time we got health insurnance incase one of us needs surgery etc especially the kids
I have rung around today and they are soooo complicated, all we want is one for emergencys, grommets, surgery etc so we don't have to wait for ages to be seen, has anyone got a policy like that or can recommend one, ohh and can it be cheapish....

Due to the birth of our first we too have been looking at health insurance. A good place to start is Southern-x, they have a "Wellbeing" plan & you can calculate what it might cost you... here's the link http://www.southerncross.co.nz/index.cfm?A891918A-D803-486B-B1C0-3C4AB5556C0E

We are with southern cross and on the well beinging 2 plan. It covers specialist and surgical. I is just me and the boys and I have opted for a nil excess so it is a little bit pricey (well I don't think it is, for what we get) if you want to know PM me and i'll give you the price.

Yeah I went with Southern Cross Wellbeing too - decided I didn't need GP cover (don't go that often) or some of the other add ons. Was really good because I registered Kaleb straight away and now anything that crops up (excema asthma - fam. history) will be covered.

we have the hosp and specialist plan = and would pay to check if you or DH belong to any associations where they offer a discount package for it...think ours is like $245 a quarter for all three of us and I added Ella at birth.

We're with Southern Cross too, we have UltraCare so basically everything is covered except optical and dental. Because I've had it since I was a kid there are no pre-existing condition exclusions and I also qualify for loyalty benefits such as obstetrics. I added all three girls when they were newborns and they've covered everything - Maya's allergies, Mercedes reflux, Sienna's kidney, not to mention the literally hundreds of GP/after hours visits the three of them have clocked up. I wouldn't be without it.
ETA: Ours isn't cheap, around $195 a month, but since the gremlins arrived I haven't had a single month where my claims have been less than my premiums.
