GMIL has made a few comments about how Benjy is 'bow-legged' or 'bandy legged' because he walked too early. It is true, he is very bow legged looking, but until she started repeating herself I hadn't thought it was anything to be concerned about as Ella walked at 10 months too and she hasn't got popeye legs now!
Should I be concerned or not? She seems to think it is something that needs attention right away...

My Braebee walked at 9mnths & doesnt have bow/bandy legs.
A friend's boy's walked early too & both have/had bandy/bow legs. The 4yr old came right but the 2yr old still walks funny..
Personally I would be worried as my family have a history of club foot. I would get it checked just for peace of mind

Isn't club foot something you are born with though? Or can it develop?
Gosh, I don't know anything!

I think club foot is a born-with (only) thing but there may be something else? If he's not bothered by it I'd probably just ask at the next gp/plunket apmt.

Andrew was an early walker as well and doesn't have any issues. I did think when he was about 11 months old he had that but he was fine. He's coming up 1 so have a chat to the gp or plunket then.

I think all young ones look pretty bandy legged and they seem to grow out of it. I'd not be at all concerned.

Your plunket nurse would probably say something next appointment if there was an issue... you could always ask her to confirm?

Thanks guys!
Unfortunately Benjy doesn't get a one year check at plunket, his next is 15 months.
Luckily I remembered my good friend google, and found heaps of sites confirming what you said. Its normal in 95% of cases, and they usually grow out of it between 1-2 years old. Hooray, and thanks for the advice!

I'd go into plunket at 1 year (they'll weigh him and measure him for you then (well our one here does) and then ask them about it.

remember he's got a nappy on too, so it probably gives the appearance that he is when really he isn't...I'm sure he's fine

Maya walked early too and she was bow legged for a wee while, in her first birthday video she is prancing around in a short dress with these long stick legs sticking out all gangly but she's certainly not bow legged now.

Nah its not the way he walks, its the actual shape of his legs. They are like Popeye's, bent outwards from the knee down.
Everything I have read since o/p seems to say it is quite normal and they will grow out of it.
I'll take that advice and mention to p/n next time we go tho, just to make sure
