Talk about a comedy of errors! Remember how I said Sienna wasn't 100%? And that she had diarrohea? Well, in good ole Murphy style, last night she started to deteriorate really quickly, stopped passing urine, threw up all thru her cot then pooped all thru my bed. And of course Willie had gone out to watch the rugby and was too drunk to drive home so I had no one here to stay with Mercedes and Maya so I could take Sienna to the hospital.
Poor old Katherine sent me a completely innocent text at about 10.30pm, only to get a reply along the lines of "help!!!!" So she came over in the cold and the wet in the middle of the night (well it was midnight, but still...) and stayed with the girls while I took Sienna to hospital in the ambulance (coz of course I'd taken my meds which mean I'm not allowed to drive for 12 hours). She even stripped and changed my bed and Sienna's cot so that when we crawled home at 4am I had somewhere to crash, then she crashed on my couch and got up with the girls and fed/played with them so I could sleep.
At the hospital Sienna was rehydrated via syringe, which she was quite happy about coz of course hospital pedialyte tastes so much better than the stuff I'd been trying to give her at home all evening *rolls eyes* And goes from being limp and floppy and unresponsive to bouncy and happy and chatting up all the nurses.
Oh and did I mention that my dryer is dead? So I now have piles of sheets I've had to wash and no way of getting them dry, not to mention the piles of clothes from our week away that are slowly making their way thru the airing racks (oh Katherine even did some of that for me, bless her!)
So overall it was the night from hell. And I just pray (and pray and pray) that Sienna hasn't shared her bugs with anyone else at Caitlin's party yesterday afternoon Altho Mercedes is fine and given that they sare everything spoons, cups etc. I would have thought she'd be the first to get it.
So huge, huge, huge thanks to Katherine for being there and abandoning Harry Potter to come rescue me in my hour of need, it's times like these when you really do know who your true friends are. And that she offered (or rather insisted) even without being asked. I appreciate it so much. I'll have to come snotmonster-wrangle one night so you and DH can have a night out to pay you back somehow.

ETA: To answer my worry over whether they are gaining weight or not, they weighed her at the hospital and she was 7.9kg fully dressed which is 200g lighter than when she was weighed naked at Plunket a month or so ago. Hard to know if she's only lost weight from being sick these past few days tho. Am going to take them both to the GP tomorrow or Tues to get them weighed naked again and talk to her about my worries.

PS. Gen I am so, so, so sorry I missed brunch I am gutted! But I was barely even able to string a sentence together by the time Mum rang at 11am so I would have been an absolute wreck if I'd come.

Ditto here re the dryer ... If BS picks up a double load, she could drop half off to me at work if she didnt mind (I'm in Penrose, not far from motorway), I can put it through at my place (sheets and towels - stuff you won't need during the week) and run it out to you on Saturday.

for Katherine!!

P.S I'm sorry too Paws ... my hospital story isn't as good as Emma's though. over missing brunch. I was so disappointed.

You guys all rock! I am overwhelmed by how much support I've found here, it truly means so much to me.
Thanks for the offers of dryers BS, Ginger and Toni, I have ordered a new one and it is supposed to be being delivered today so fingers crossed we will all have dry clothes soon coz the airing rack just isn't coping! If it doesn't show, you might find me on your doorsteps with baskets of laundry
Sienna is much happier again this morning, still not 100%, only ate a tiny amount of apples for breakfast and still having yucky nappies, but they seem to be settling down.

Went to the GP and Sienna's weight is a bit off but she said not to worry too much at this stage and just weigh her again in a couple of weeks when she is well. And Mercedes the porker has put on 600g and is now 8.9kg altho that was fully dressed and her last weigh was naked so she's probably not quite that heavy. And Sienna just had her first non-dirty nappy since Friday - woohoo!

Thanks again for all your support and offers of help, I really appreciate it. And I'm sure Angela, my boss, will be stoked that OHbaby! is such a supportive, caring community.

The dairy formula was an absolute disaster, they both got nasty diarrohea, but they seem to be coping OK with a little bit of baby custard/yoghurt every now and then.

The specialist seems to think that rather than a true intolerance it's just their bodies reacting to the lactose coz they've never had it before. So hopefully if we gradually increase the yoghurt etc. their tolerance will gradually increase as well.

Awww, Emma, and the rest of you, you are too kind. I was only doing what I'd want someone to do for me! I just wish I hadn't been so tired in the morning or I'd have hung up all the washing! I was more than happy to help out -- besides, the gremlins are cute, and Maya was a laugh a minute, telling me what to do, what nappies to use, what everyone eats for breakfast... although somehow I doubt that marshmallows are standard breakfast fare in your house, Emma, despite what she tried to convince me of! I hope poor little Sienna starts feeling better very, very soon. If not, I'll be back!

Mum was impressed, she thinks Maya is very sneaky re: the marshmallows. And she was partly right - I DO let her choose what she wants for breakfast, but no, marshmallows are not usually on the menu!

And no stress on the washing - Amy came and took three huge baskets away to dry and the new dryer arrived tonight (yahoo!) so I have put two loads thru myself already
