DH and i are coming up next week for christina aguilera. we get there wednesday and come home saturday so have a few days to fill in.....what shall we do?
money will be almost non-existant so cheap/free ideas are very welcome 
so far, the zoo is a definate, and maybe kelly tarltons depending on how much it is to get in. bearing in mind we don't have a car so will have to bus everywhere ------------- http://www.alternatickers.com">

Be warned Kelly Tarltons is pretty expensive. Will you have the children with you or not? If you do have the kiddy-winks, then my suggestions would be Western Springs - great play park, feed the ducks, lovely to walk around. Auckland Museum - good kids space and free! Grown up things to do - wander around the viaduct / princes wharf, have coffee and watch the people go by, Aotea Square Markets....ummm.....depends on what you are "into". Auckland City Farmers market in the Britomart is good but I'm not sure you will be up that early on a saturday morning. If you haven't got any kids with you the Food Show is on the same weekend at the ASB show grounds in Greenlane Starts on the Friday, I think it is $20.00 to get in but you can spend a whole day there sampling wine, beer and food and as you aren't driving it could be fun. And not to far from the city so busing would be easy. Do you like shopping ?? Try dressmart in Onehunga for factory shops or take a bus to Newmarket for a bit of upmarket shopping and a coffee. Or even St Lukes mall isn't hard to bus to from the city. |

Kellys is expensive but worth it if you only go once.
Don't forget to include MOTAT when you got to the Zoo and Western Springs. Both 1 and 2 are included in your ticket price. Also depending on the weather, check out One Tree Hill and/or North Head Devonport are both interesting and great to wander around Devonport shops - depending on where you are staying you could catch the ferry across. Other cool places to vist are Howick Historical Village - in Lloyd Elsmore park. The Museum is fabulous. I could add Botany Town Centre - that is an experience all of its own, or Sylvia Park haven't been there yet. You can buy an Auckland Superpass that covers entry into Kelly Tarltons, Rainbows End, A trip on a Fuller's Ferry to Rangitoto Island and up the Sky Tower. It hasn't come up, but I wouldn't bother with MOTAT...it's really average. The Maritime Museum is central and reasonably ok if you are into boats - the highlight there is that it is in the viaduct and you get a trip around the harbour in Ted Ashby, though if you do the Auckland superpass thingee you'd get a return trip to Rangitoto which is a better deal. Maxx (buses, ferries, trains etc) are a good option for transport - you can see a lot of Auckland for not much $$$$ and they stop at all the interesting places. The Auckland Discovery Day Pass might be an idea for a day - it lets you travel on all of the buses, trains and most of the ferries all day for $14. You could take the ferry to Devonport if you wanted to do a boat ride as well - that isn't that expecnisve and Devenport is nice for a wander round - or if you have kids then you could ferry over, play on the little playground and ferry back again.
I love Sylvia Park and it is huge! beyond huge even! MOTA i great if you have older kiddies - your kiddies wouldn't be into it yet though, so I wouldnt bother. -------------

Another Sylvia Park fan here, there's just sooo many shops!! Some great cafes there too.

i too say catch the ferry and go look round devonport...or go to waiheke for the day if fine.
but the food show will be good. If yu want to go to botany catch the ferry from town to half moon bay then the bus straight to botany...easy!!! no traffic! katherine may know the timetables. auckland things can be weather dependant... of course i would say one thing to do is MEET ME....but im off to oz....sorry next time
