i would like to hear about every 1's labour and birth storys....I think i was real lucky with mine....

at 3am i thought my waters broke..so i went 2 the loo 2 see if i was write..well i felt like a waterfall..i called my midwife marissa and she told me to met her at the hospital at 1pm...by 1pm nothing had happened but i met her anyway..she done an internal and didnt think it was my waters that broke and that she thought it was jus excess fluid.
so i went home and watched t.v and felt like sh*t then about 3pm it got worse....i started having contractions at bout 5pm but they got really bad at 7pm..at 8pm marissa called and my mum talked to her...she would ring back in an hr.by the time she called back i had had the show!and babys head was crowning i met her at the hospital 10 minutes later...they tryed to put me on the moniter but i couldnt stay still..marissa arrived and took me to my room and told me to take my pants off...i couldnt...so im trying to get on the bed through a contraction with my midwife and my mum tryna take my pants off a minute later she told me to push...and me being a blond...i asked if IT was fully dilated and after 15 minutes of pushin i had my little boy in my arms...he weighted 7lb 6oz...i named him Khayle James Browning..hes really long(they dont measure babys anymore)..and the best bit HE CAME ON HIS DUE DATE

my due date came...and went. Lewis was on leave from japan and had a non-refundable ticket for the 26th. So we did EVERYTHING to get labour started....nothing. So I was scheduled to be induced on the 25th (incidentally Labour day). I was really stressing as Lewis had to leave THAT DAY!! After some talks with family he manbaged to get another ticket so that was okay. We went to the hospital at 8am and they put me on a monitor. I got a mini-contraction ad bumped the machine I think because suddenlythey were concerned that Bubbas heart rate dropped. After another hour of monitoring my midwife said that everything seemed fine so let's break the waters. She did that and told us to go to the cafe and have a drink and come back when the contractions were painful. Got in the elevator and had two on the way down. that elevator seriously must be the slowest elevator in the world. Anyway, got to the bottom and attempted to walkt to the cafe. got to the toilet and kinda sat on the floor while lewis masaaged my back, then went to the loo to find that the show had arrived. After another contraction this time outside the toilet where several people came up to me to offer help, lewis decided we needed to go BACK to the room. So up we went where the midwife was surprsied to see us again. Went in the room and ran a bath and got in pretty quick. The midwife offered me gas which i took. I know others said that it makes them sick, but i found it good just to help me concentrate on my breathing. Then my nana turned up. Lewis had rang my mum to tell her it was all go, howevr shewas at work at LOCKED HERSELF IN THE SAFE!!!!!!! So she was waiting for armourgurad to let her out so called nana. Nana is a nurse and has like zero sympathy usually for people sick. at the hospital she's fantastic, but at home, well, you better be sick!
anyway, midwife checked and said you need to get out now. You'r fully dilated. So I got out ( and put on a stunning hospital gown) and she checked again. ONly 8cm, but pretty good for an hour of contractions. Then she offered me pethidine, whcih sounded like a good idea. they put in a drip which i didn't feel at all.....really weird since i hate needles. Anyway after another half an hour we were ready to push. and my dad was at the door. He wanted to know if he could come in. i believe i said I don't care. and he came in. later I found out this was a mistake. he thought he was in the waiting area and that i would have the baby and be wheeled in. he didn't realise this was where i was HAVING the baby. Anyway, lewis and the midwife were now munching out on the lollies we brought, they offered me some but i wasn't too keen. So it was time to push. and push. they got a bit concerned as it was taking a while. Anyway, he came out and as they were fixing me up, my midwiufe said that he was facing the wrong way and presenting the largest part of his head which was why it took a while to push him out. lovely child. So everyone took their photos and that was about it.

dad later told me he was concerned as I was pushing he kept thinking, how can the bqaby breathe. My step-mum cracked up and said how do you think it breathed when she was pregnant. He turned red and got embarressed. Kinda funny.

So labour started at 9, and jake was born at 1:51pm. Some tearing but nothing i felt now or at the tme.

well it started on monday morning (15th August)about 7am when Jamie and I were laying in bed and I thought I had 'lightened' a little... untill he moved and thought 'no not today' Jamie and I were talking about him taking the day off and thats when I broke down and said Id had enough! well... 8am rolls around and he gets up and rings his works and tells them a little white lie... Trish has been having a couple of contractions so I wont be in today! (some of this maybe TMI but just letting you all know excatly what happened)He comes back to bed and I was really horny so start playing(with him)... I told hime to take his pants off... well poor lad.. starts too and then... BANG! I got this sudden 'cramp' and all of a 'dribble of water' I told Jamie to get me a towel and quickly sat on that.. Jamie was like whats wrong' well I didnt have a clue! I told him to look away as I was embarrassed as I just thought I had wet myself! I got up and went to 'freshen up in the bathroom' and when I looked at the towel.. there was the show! I told Jamie to ring the midwife and see what she thinks it was. He rings(its about 8.10am), I speak to her... she says tell jamie to keep track of your contractions and ill ring you back later this morning.. ohh and go have a bath it might help. I go and run the bath when I get another one. I get in the bath.. Jamie is trying to get me some food but every time he went to do something Id get another contraction. at this stage they werent very regular.. 5-10 mins apart.. lasting anywhere from 30-90 secs... I tell jamie to ring the midwife and tell her I want to go to the hospital as I needed pain releif and I was vomitting non stop with every contraction! then at about 9 they started to come every minute lasting 60 secs.. 9.15. Jamies on the phone to the midwife again saying they are a min apart and 60 long with a pain scale of 8(10 being worst)She said she would be there by 9.30, at this stage im naked in the bedroom standing up leaning over the bedside cabinet as I couldnt sit as it hurt! I couldnt have anythig touching my back as it really hurt aswell. 9.45.. she was still not there I told Jamie to ring her again as the pain was getting worse and sometimes I would have 2 contractions together lasting 90secs.. 10am shes here, She tells me to lay on the bed as she needed to check how far along I was.. she had to do it quick as I started to get another contraction... 8cm Dialated!!! yes that is not an error! I had Dialated to 8cm in 2 hours! She she she couldnt believe how quickly I had gotten that far.. she rings chch womens hospital to tell them Im on my way.. when she is told that we cant go t here as they are in the middle of having a bomb scare! yes a bloody bomb scare! So of too St georges I go (was originally my first choice of hospital, untill the new chch womens opened) one problem... we dont have a car!... midwife suddenly clicks that she is going to have to take us.. in the car.. inbetween contractions.. Im telling her which way to go LOL Jamie in the back seat was telling her the bloody long way GRRRR... well after a 5 minute car ride..(which seemed to take for ever) we arrive.. straight up to the labour room... I asked for pain relief... only allowed the gas as I 'was too far gone; for anything else, take a couple of sucks.. 'its not working and threw it away' turns out they hadnt turned it on! well finally on the gas :D and I was ready to push (ohh btw the only way I could get reasonably comfortable was standing at the end of the bed leaning over a bean bag(which was on the bed) that was when I stayed, I pushed his head out and had to wait for another contraction for his body to come out.. well that was the longest minute of my life! I though I was going to tear in two! I get another contraction and Here he is :D It was the most wonderful and weirdest feeling in my LIFE! she hands him to be via underneath(im still standing over the bed half asleep from the gas) and I start crying! I was so over the moon the it was finally over!

ummm i think i may have had the easiest 'birth'. arrived at st georges at 8am, went up to my room, unpacked my bags, put on my gorgeous gown, looked through my bounty pack full of goodies, watched abit of telly.
then at 1pm went for a walk down to theatre, had an epidural and by 1.20pm jack was lying in my hubby's arms! hehe, yes i had a c-section as jack was breech. unfortunately no labour pains what-so-ever. hopefully next time round will be completely different and i will actually be able to 'give birth' to my baby.
it feels so surreal lying there pregnant and then within 5mins your looking in your bubs eyes! all without feeling any pain or anything at all for that matter. my friend told me it would feel as though someone was looking for something at the bottom of a handbag and that's so true. lots of pushing and pulling around in your stomach.

With paris i had no niggles, nothing, i had a show 5 days before i had her, but nothing else, then 5am my waters broke, 6 am contractions started, got in bath to make them more regular, 8am i thought i better get mike to ring midwife, she came, checked me and said "let's go!" cos i was 7cm already. got to hospital at quarter to 9, fully dilated at 9.15. took nearly 2 hours of pushing but wasn't hard or painful.. 11.07 am Paris was born. so, 5 hours from start of contractions.

Ayja, i had a false alarm a few days before hand, but everything stopped. on the night/morning i had her I woke at 1am with only little niggles, not a heap of anything. took till about 2.30 to realise this might be something, got mike to go get mum to babysit. they got back, i got in the bath about 3am, had huge contractions, struggled to get out again, lol. got to hospital at 4 am, they managed to get me up on the bed at 4.15am to check me, and found i was 7cm, with bulging waters, so they broke them. midwife said, maybe an hour or so till i delivered. nup, 10 mins later i had huge urge to push so she checked and yep, in 10 mins i had gone from 7 to 10 cm! pushed for 10 mins and there was little ayja!. must say... i may have had quickest births from start or first niggles to finish, and PAris's birth was not really painful, but Ayja's HURT SO MUCH!!! (don't think it helped i had symphysis pubis dysfunction...) i clearly remember as her shoulders came out it felt like they hit and got stuck, then turned slightly, and i felt my joint at the front have a huge click and out she came... man that hurt.

Aimee, I read heaps of birth stories before having Josef, I found it great because you could see how everyone's experience is different and you could know what to expect. It helped me not be so worried about the whole thing anymore. Anyway here is my birth story (it is a bit long I'm sorry!)...

My waters broke at 7.30am on Wednesday morning (17th August) just after I had told hubby that our baby would be here 10th September at the latest as we were sooooo sure he would be late

I didn't have any contractions so I sent hubby off to work and called my mum who was coming up from Nelson for the birth that she should come up some time that day. Called the m/w also at 8am to tell her and then I went back to bed to have a rest.

Hubby got back home at 9.30am as his boss sent him home!!! and mum arrived in Welly at 10.30am. Contractions had started at this stage but were pretty spaced out.

We pretty much sat at home all day watching telly etc. and the contractions slowly got stronger and closer together. M/w came to see how I was doing at about 5pm and said I should call her when contraction were every 3 minutes and lasting for about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes and had been like this for over an hour. Need less to say this started happening almost as soon as she left!... typical

We called the m/w finally at about 8.15pm after these contractions had been going on for aboput 3 hours and asked her to come. I had a shower while waiting to relieve back ache and basically walked around the house between contractions.

M/w arrived at 9pm and said we could go into the hospital at any time now as she could see I was pretty sore!! We left soon after and arrived at the hospital at 10pm - car ride was AWFUL!! I don't want to know what people that pulled up next to us thought, lol

Anyway, got to the hospital and was already 8cm dilated!! YAY! I want into the bath and had really strong contractions for the next hour - I thought I couldn't do it anymore but I was too far along for pain relief and once the contractions stopped I felt much better and got onto the bed to push.

I squatted on the bed and pushed for an hour and a half - I have to say I found contractions much more painful than the actual pushing! Josef Benjamin was born at 12.34am Thursday 18th August and weighed 7lb 13oz.

We went home from the hospital at 2.30am.

I had no tearing at all and apart from a bit of swelling I was already walking around and feeling great the next day.

My Hubby was a fantastic support person and seemed to know exactly what to do and my mum was a great support for him I think.

I can't begin to describe what a wonderful experience it was, it just felt totally natural and right.

Well I definitely did NOT have the easiest labour, but the birth part was all good.
I saw my midwife on the Wed morning, I was nearly 38 weeks, and I told her I thought the baby was going to come soon. I just had a 'feeling'She told me baby wasn't engaged yet, and that she would be very surprised if I was right.
Wed afternoon about 4pm I started having feelings like I really needed to pass gas, but assumed that's all it was. Went to pick up Willie from work, made him drive home coz I was too uncomfortable.
At about 7pm I had a bath and had a show in the bath. Freaked out and rang the midwife, but she said it could still be a few days. I then realised that the pains were actually regular, and could be contractions. I timed them but they were anywhere from 7 min to 12 min apart.
This continued all night, I didn't get much sleep because I was so excited an nervous, and the midwife rang for a progress check at 7am. Still pretty irregular.
Over the day the contractions got more intense and by 11pm I decided it was time to go to the hospital. When I arrived I had been having contractions for 32 hours, and was only 5cm dilated.
Had an epidural at 1am partly because I was so exhausted, and went to sleep. At 5am they let the epi wear off to measure the contractions, and they were only 1 minute apart. I screamed for more epidural and they topped it up again.
Started pushing at about 7am, and at 8.11am, after more than 40 hours of contractions, Maya Grace Te Irirangi Marama Davis was born weighing 4070g (9lb1oz) and 54cm long. She was 38 weeks gest, and ended up getting bad jaundice because she is Rh+ and I am Rh-.
The actual birth itself was textbook, I was asked to stop pushing when the head was out so they could suction her (she had meconium in her waters), but even tho I stopped pushing, the rest of her came flying out. I had a tiny tear, no stitches, and was up and walking around within an hour.

I was pretty happy with my experience.

My waters broke with a pop just before I got out of bed on April 7th, I managed to make it to the loo and the fluid gushed out. I started getting aches and cramps shortly after, rang my midwife to let her know and she said she would be around sometime that morning to check on me. Not long after, pains got stronger and lasted longer, I was dry retching in the kitchen sink (hadnt managed any breakfast) and hubby was on the phone to midwife telling her to get here now! After midwife arrived, I started feeling like I wanted to push so we had a short drive to the hospital, where she did an internal and found I was fully dilated already, then told to push. 1 hour later, Ella was born. 5 hours from my waters breaking and she arrived.

i think i am really blessed! I had two really easy labours! My first son was two weeks late, so i went to the hospital to be induced only to find out (after on examination) that i was 6cm dialated and was having regular contractions - i in the meantime couldn't feel a thing!! I started feeling the contractions at 8pm and then at 9.30pm i was ready to push (not using any drugs, gas or pain relief)by 10pm our beautiful son was with us all 8lb 1oz of him. Our second was even easier felt contractions at 7 am called the midwife who told us to go to the hospital bubs was born at 8.34am, again no pain relief what so ever!! our second was 8lb 4oz. I am only a small person and my midwife surprised that on both occasions i didn't tear or graze!! I am truly lucky!!

be thankfull you didnt tear..i didnt but i was cut...its not nice i wasnt allowed to bend i wasnt allowed to hold anything heavyer then baby(who was 7 lb 6 oz)but one of the worst things was tryna have a bath.....it took me like 5-10 minutes just to get in then 30 minutes jus relaxing then 5-10 more minutes getting out...it was sooooooooo sore...dnt want that to happen again lol

Ill keep this short and sweet with my first pregs things were sweet and labour was 7hours then he arrived with alittle pushing but had everything i could take,no cuts, tears etc.......weighing in at 7lbs 13oz

My 2nd pregs was even better and my due dates were mucked up but then the day came didnt realise, midwife turned up said my waters were bulging, had no pains then midwife gave me 2hours too see if anything happens cause she broke waters then still nothing wen time was up so i said im going into the birth unit as soon as i got there she put a drip in my arm, then 50mins later with 30mins constant pushing and no pain relief my 2nd child was born weighing 8lbs 5oz best day of my life.

My turn...

KIYA: Contractions started at 10:30pm, and they were initally 1 hour apart. By 3:15am they were 15 minutes apart, so I rung my Mum who was to be my support person, and who was working nightshift (she's a nurse). My Dad had stayed up with me watching movies, so when Mum got home, he went to bed (he had a test that day at uni!). I stayed up all night, walking round the lounge during the contrations. When my midwife, Julie, came round at 7:30 to examine me, I was dilated 7cm! By 9am, contractions were 5 minutes apart and lasting just over a minute each. We went to the hospital, where I got into the spa bath and my contractions slowed down to 15 minutes! AAGGGHHH!!!! By 11:30am I was dilated 8cm, and contractions were 7 minutes apart... Julie broke my waters to hurry things along. I got back into the bath, my contractions got stronger and Kiya was born in the bath at 2.02pm on Wednesday 28 March. She was caught by her Nanma (my mum) and flipped up onto my tummy. Nanma also cut the cord. Based on appearance at birth, Kiya was around 2 weeks early, but I don't know for sure as I had 6 due dates between 20 March and 12 April.

JOSIAH: I was diagnosed with "Irritable Uterus" which is basically a whole lot of irregular Braxton-Hicks style contractions that do zip. I had 3 weeks of contractions before anything happened. I saw my midwife, Gaenor, at 12:30pm for a normal appointment the day before my due date. I was 1cm dilated, but had been for a while. My cervix was FINALLY starting to thin, so Gaenor manually separated the layers of the cervix to try and bring something on. Within an hour, the first strong, hard contraction hit. By 10pm they were 15 minutes apart, and alot more painful than with Kiya. At 2:30am they were 5 minutes apart, and I was kneeling on my bed, breathing through a contraction when I half heard/half felt a "pop" then something went "thud!" into my pelvis and I realised that my waters had broken. At 5am I rung Gaenor, and arranged to meet her at the hospital at 6am (she lived 40min drive away). At 5:30 we rung the person who was going to stay with Kiya, she got to our house and we walked out the door! On the way to the hospital I had an urge to push which I was fighting like anything. We got to the hospital at 6am. Gaenor got me onto a bed and monitored everything for 30 minutes, then let me get into the spa bath. I started wanting to push almost straight away. Gaenor checked and said I was fully dialated, so I started to push. At 6:58am on Wednesday 4 May Josiah was born, in the same bathtub as his big sister. Nathaniel was my support and cut the cord.
