I'm all set to make banana cake for Briona's birthday (today, party tomorrow) and we're out of white flour! Would wholemeal flour be ok or should I really make a trip for white?

If you sift the wholemeal first it will get rid of the wheat germ/flakes will make it finer and ok to use for Banana Cake, would be ok for Banana cake as its a fairly dense cake to start with.

Yeah, it will be absolutely fine.. infact wholemeal works in most recipes! I buy organic flour as it's ground up much finer than the supermarket stuff. But like fleury said, if you sift it, it's fine.

Thanks ladies, I used some of it to thicken a casserole last night and I think it was actually yummier for it!

*trots off to make cake and hide it before Briona gets her fingers on it*
