Hi all,

My son Jack won't eat lumps. He prefers his food very soft and soggy. He's just gone 9 months so is still pretty young really. I'm not too worried but everyone else seems to be. Apparently he'll become a lazy eater??   My thoughts are that I've never met an adult who doesn't eat lumps so he'll get there eventually I'm sure.

On the other hand he's just started crawling this weekend and has pulled himself up on the sofa. So we're really proud. Getting ready to start chasing him about endlessly trying to keep him out of trouble though.   Eeek.

Hi there Kiwimeesh. My son Alex skipped the "lumps" stage completely. He went from the first stage or pureed food to eating the same as us. He is getting close to 11 months old now.

Thanks Mum to Alex, I think I've heard that before somewhere. So maybe my monkey will do the same.

It's funny everyone has an opinion about babies and the bad things that will happen if you don't do this and don't do that. I like to let him do his own thing and so far it seems to have worked for us.

Like you say, there's not too many adults who don't eat lumps, so don't worry too much. But offering lots of finger foods might help him accept more variety.

I agree with you on the adult thing but one of my Mum's workmates was too scared to work through the gagging stage to get Amy to eat lumps and at 13 months she still required her food to be pureed. I'm positive Amy will learn to eat more solid food soon, but at the same time, all babies have to learn to get through their gagging reflex. If that is what is stopping your son eating lumps then keep trying and he'll get over it.

If it isn't that then keep going... it'll all happen eventually
