Annoying period pain types ones, if hey don't go away I would be calling your MW. Best way to work out if they are just niggles is to have a relaxing bath, if they don't go away I would be saying you are in labour.

I'm guessing you're meaning labour niggles?? For me, my waters broke then contractions started 20 mins later. It felt like I had a tight belt on - pain was low down at front. This got more intense VERY quickly and Brenna was born not long after. I hope this helps, but I don't *think* I had any pre-labour niggles, just straight into the real thing

What are you feeling??

ETA - not a dumb question at all!! I used to wonder the same thing

I thought it could be from special cuddles as was DF's birthday yesterday.. but just wanted to ask because all day iv been getting period like pains.. like tight cramps in my lower abdo..
It kinda hurts.
I just had a bath about an hour ago and they went away until now hence why im asking the question now..
Plus people ask me if im getting niggles and imnot sure what they are.

Start timing them (how long they last and how often they come), if you get a pattern give your MW a call to let her know something may happen over night.

Theres a difference between labour pains and BH...BH are usually more uncomfortable and annoying than anything else and your whole tummy becomes quite hard, however, they tend to go away after awhile.

Labour pains are more like intense period cramps that feel just like rubydooby said, like someone has put a tight belt around your lower abdomen that gets more and more intense (like a 'vice' like pain). You can get period-type cramps before going into labour that DON'T lead to anything, but are the body 'gearing' up for things to start...if you're in labour you'll know. Everyone kept saying that to me and I kept thinking "whatever" but you definitely will, because you will actually have to concentrate on getting through each contraction! I had a migraine after a while I was concentrating so hard on trying to get through them!

Hope that helps...

I put it this way.

Abdo tightens, holds, releases = Braxton Hicks

Braxton Hicks + hurting a bit at the same time = pre-labour niggles (or light contractions that don't amount to anything). They can happen off and on for a month or two before labour and don't really indicate anything (oh yes and can be set off by special cuddles, but so also can BH and labour)

All of that + ouchy ouchy pains deep down inside = contractions. But the medical profession don't call it labour until there is a regular, and close, pattern (by which time you can barely talk in between - usually). I grumble about the technicalities because I have long (30 hours) "early labour" which is pretty painful but keep getting told I'm not in labiour!
