My 11.5mth old still HATES tummy time. I just got on the floor with her and tried to entertain her / play with us both on our tummy's but she screamed and screamed and continued to scream for a good 20mins after I picked her up.
We've seen paeds, physios, osteos etc and they all say she is fine, physically and developmentally but it seems as though it hurts. She has a stroppy / determined / grumpy disposition so she responds to many things with intense, 'the-world-is-ending' crying outburst but she REALLY cries on her tummy. Could it hurt? Or does she just not like it? And while we are at it...when do they stop crying so much!?!?!?! She has cried so much lately. It makes me feel like a useless Mum as nothing I do helps...she just pushes me away if I try to cuddle her...it's as though she can't stand me! She is apparently 100% happy with her grandparents...is it possible for a baby to simply not like their mother? ------------- Mummy to Gabrielle and Ashley |

i was convinced that gabriel hated me - sometimes i still think so....and toby is still a whingey baby - or should that be child. on sun night he started crying at dinner at about 6 and didnt stop till nearly 8, and that was thru the bath, cuddles, pj's, milk, tuck into bed... hysterical at most of it. and yes he is a darling for nana.
and i dont know about tummy time hurting but i know i get uncomfortable on my tummy... |

i've never doubted toby...that gabriel tho - refused to even call me mummy till he was just over 2.

i never did tummy time much as Rhiannon hated it, at 11.5mths im surprised she still needs tummy time, unless of course i have missed something which is probably the case.

Well she doesn't crawl and I haven't quite given up on it yet...i want to know I've done everything I can to encourage crawling so that I have no regrets later on. If I do everything I can and she still doesn't crawl at least my conscience will be clear. And G&T - I heard a fab comment a few weeks ago...the very qualities we want our kids to have when they are teenagers, such as determination, independence, caution / boldness when needed etc, are the very things that we find hard to deal with when they are little. The best thing we can do is to do our best to deal with those things without without squashing them so that they will still have them when they are older :) Very true I think. Teehee, I just discovered that I am too old and too fat to lie on the floor on my tummy, I was just playing with the kids and now my back is killing me!
I know some refluxers hate tummy time coz it puts pressure on the tummy, but mine always liked it. Maya hated it and screamed like the world was ending but she did crawl so I guess in her case it was just temper. She still has a wicked wee temper on her! -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

 Fiona. Maybe Elle is going through a phase and her grandparents are a 'novelty'?
Re tummy time - you could always try putting a cushion under her arms so she's propped up a bit or lie on your back with legs in the air and her on your legs. Lie in front of her looking at her? Use a mirror? Lie her on tummy across your legs while you're on a chair? Prop her slightly onto arm of couch with face over? Maybe change time that you do it? (not sure how soon after a feed/before a feed when she might be hungry?...) Tummy time seems to be hit and miss - some babies love it and others loathe it.
