Ewwwww - thats not a nice thought. I hate that so much stuff is made there. It's getting hard to avoid.

I heard that sanitarium PB was being made in China after they moved the operation from Aussie. After all the complaints from customers they are going back to Aus.

Sanitarium are apparently doing TWO different types of PB, the Chinese one, and bringing back the Aust one in different packaging. I saw an ad in Little Treasures about it I think. Somewhere anyway. Random huh? I never even though about where my PB was made. Not that we have PB here, nut free house and all.

It opens your eyes up a bit doesn't it. I think we just assume that if the label is in English it is local. Well I did to be honest. It is pretty silly really since the cheaper brands like Pams all seem to be imported from China and Singapore. If they want us to buy the local products they need to be a bit more competitive in pricing.

I know I am a bad, bad person, but I don't actually care too much where things are made For me it's all about value, and about what I like. For example, I'll only buy Watties Spaghetti coz I don't like the taste of the cheaper brands, but I'll buy Pams/Budget/Home Brand canned peaches coz they're exactly the same as the more expensive local brands only cheaper.
When it comes to clothes I tend to buy Patch/JK which are made locally but that is a quality thing rather than a matter of where they're manufactured.I don't really think about where stuff like that is made to be honest, I just look at whether it will stand up to being knocked around by the kids and some of the cheaper stuff doesn't.

Its a bit scary hearing all these product recalls, you think you are buying quality products - I mean mattel are a fairly trusted brand of toys that has been around for a long time.
Its crazy how much stuff is made in China now, I guess its just so much cheaper to produce products over there, and more and more companies are moving factories etc over to Asian countries to help in the cost of production.
I try and support Kiwi made stuff, but it can be hard, more often than not it is more expensive to buy ( but then the quality is often better), I guess it comes down to what it is.

Well I was eating Sanitarium peanut butter and was kind of grossed out when I found out it was made in China, so have switched to Kraft which is made in Aussie. Having done quite a bit of travelling through China, and seeing how unsanitary they are put me off it!

We usually buy Signature Range peanut butter because it won an award for the tastiest peanut butter a couple of years ago. But the other day DH came home brandishing a jar of Kraft and said we're going to buy that from now on, as it's made in Australia. I'm loathe to go through my cupboards to see what else is made in China...

i was surprised when i did that - a lot of the canned goods i had were made in italy - like the budget spaghetti and baked beans...

we buy the budget spag and BB, Jake likes them best, and Rod dosen't mind them either. I don't eat 'em so don't care. Alot of tinned fruit is from china and to me tastes bleeeeugh (and smells yuck, too), quite "bleachy", as they dip them in bleach or something to get the skins off, and I find they taste quite bland. I buy Roxdale apricots while I still can, and SPC friut as I have found it to taste the most true to life and not chemically or bleachy. So for fruit, its made in OZ or NZ if you can still find it. Don't get peanut butter very much, but will buy the oz one as you can't trust china made, I don't reckon (after that toothpaste debacle)

Lots of the cheaper car seats that some budget nappy stores sell are made in China

I don't like buying foodstuffs from China because I'm worried about the hygiene standards. Anything else I'm not too worried about as long as its good value for money. New Zealand relies heavily on exporting to survive so needs to be competitive when it comes to producing goods.

I'm trying not to buy China made after all the crap in the news lately. Trying to steer away especially from Chinese imported fruit/veges. Who knows what they spray on them to preserve them for export. I heard some horror stories about garlic the other day.
And for the record, most of PP stuff is made in China (?) I think too.
