Emmecat that must have been really scary for you!!!! Just wanted to add my bit, don't have any personal experience with taking pain meds while pregnant but I work as an alcohol and drug counsellor, we've had pregnant mums on the methadone programme (similar makeup to morphine) enter treatment and their babies have been born healthy. Ours bubs are amazingly tough little monkeys and it sounds like you were doing all the right things with diet, etc before the operation. I felt kind of dumb to worry but given that I in my 'normal' everyday life I barely even take panadol, this is all new to me and quite worrying. However it's not like the surgery was an optional thing nor the healing process so I'll try to relax now

im in hosp now, just complication with my pregnancy, but they do say that all the meds they give you if you are pregnant are safe. Codiene is ok to take while pregnant because of the way it is processed in the body , as are anti nausea meds
A girl friend of mine had her appendix out when quite pregnant and now has a very healthy happy 15 month old boy

After many years in pharmacy I can say that drugs that are given in a control environment are suitable for use during pregnancy. When dealing with serious surgeries such as yours, the risks are very carefully weighed up and they wont give you anything that is expected to cause problems with either you or your babe. I can promise you that many woman before you will have been prescribed the medicines you needed both in hospital and also once discharged

i had codeine while pregnant with DS1 and he's fine.

Yup, "PREGNANT" would have been all over your chart and they would not have presecribed or administered anything that was contraindicated or that there were concerns about. No, drugs aren't tested on PG women so there is no absolute knowledge about safety but they would have been very cautious.

Trust the Dr's!!!! They went to school for a very long time to do their jobs, as did the pharmacists, anethetists etc. I know its hard not to worry, but they wouldn't give you anything that is harmful for baby. I had morphine several times while pregnant and breastfeeding and also had a general and surgery when breastfeeding 3 month old charlotte. I also had severe mornign sickness and had meds fo rthat too, and she is fine as fine can be. I had a endoscopy under sedation early on in the pregnancy -I actually didn't know I was pregnant as the blood test to check only came back with a result of 10 or something for HCG and the nurse told me that it was negative.

I also took antinausea drugs as I had to be hospitalised with morning sickness.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with DS. However, I know how it feels to worry. After having emergency surgery last week  to basically save my ovary and stop internal bleeding, I have started to heal physically however I am *very* concerned about the amount of drugs I *had* to take while in hospital

I had pain relief such as morphone drips, coedine and others I can't pronounce as well as a general aenesthetic, plus because of my hypermerisis (I can't spell it lol) I had - and am still having- anti nausea meds at least 2-3 times a day.

Scans at the hospital showed a wriggly bubba measuring bang on for dates so thats good but I'm worried somethings gonna be wrong with her/him cos of the whole drug taking thing . Has anyone else gone through something similar and had to have lots of meds but had a healthy baby?

My diet before was excellent and I was in great health, had taken folic acid for a good month or more before I concieved and continued taking it until I landed in hospital...then didn't take it for a week  but am back on it now. I guess in the scheme of the pg, it's 'only' a week or so but I was pretty drugged up for much of it. I'm 'only' taking panadol now for pain relief as well as AN meds of course.

Just need some reassurance
