After that there was nothing gentle about the kicks, and at 20 weeks my bump started to visibly move of its own accord.

I'm 24 weeks today and it quite honestly feels like he's practising a circus act in there for the time he's awake, rolling and turning and generally doing baby kung-fu to my insides. I can't wait until he's big enough that he *can't* turn around, because it's getting damned uncomfortable now!

There was nothing gentle about my sons movements! I started feeling him at around 16-17wks - big kicks and lunging movements that would make me jump. My work mates thought it was hilarious to see me jumping as if I'd been bit all the time. It's just these silly pregnancy books which worried me with all their talk about "flutterings".

I can't really read my OBs handwriting on my notes, but I think it does say posterior for my placenta and I had wondered if that might make a difference.

With my first pregnancy I had placenta praevia so my placenta was in totally the wrong place. I hardly felt anything, and it was at least 20 wks before I was aware of any kind of movement, even at 37 weeks the hospital had to point out I was having a braxton hicks contraction but I couldn't feel it.

When I went for a scan at 18 wks this time the OB said "are you feeling this baby move, because if you are I'm not surprised!" so clearly he saw a very active baby. And at the 12 week scan the baby was turning around and all sorts of things. I have been feeling movements from around 16 wks this time, and these really big shifting movements for the past 2.

Thanks again for your replies, at least I know I'm not going mad.

Kazzam

It seems to move from one side to another (ie a see a big lump on my right side, then it moves across to the left, for example) or I feel a lunge like a somersault which can be quite uncomfortable. Other people talk about "flutterings" which nowhere compares to what I am experiencing - sometimes the frequency and intensity of the movements make me feel nauseous.

On the 18 wk scan the OB said it was a very active baby, so is that perhaps why the movements seem so big?

I e-mailed my obstetrician who probably thinks I am a nutcase, but no reply yet.

Has anyone else experienced BIG movement during the second trimester?

Kazzam
