Topic: Expired Elevit Posted: 10 December 2010 at 3:52pm |
I will start taking Elevit from next month in preparation for TTC. My issue is, I have about 2 weeks of unused Elevit from when I was pg with Jackson. The expiry date is June 2010. Do you think it will still be ok to take?
I really dont want to throw it out but thinking I might have to!

Hey Ri, I had about 6 months worth that had expired and I decided to throw it out. I didn't think it was worth the risk. I actually had a thread about it I think, if you search on "Expired Vitamins" or something.
Found it

Not sure if its ok to post this in here but its elevit related!
I am coming up to 17 weeks pregnant and have been on elevit since the day my doctor confirmed pregnancy, I have one sheet left and just wondering if anything can happen now if i stop taking it? i know its really important in the early stages but just wondering if it puts baby at any risk if i stop taking it? It is SO expensive and just don't really have the money to get more at the moment...the midwife wanted to give us a free sample but she was out, massive bummer!

I don't know what other ppl reckon, but I figured if I was pg and wasn't able to afford elevit I'd just take a cheaper brand (which usually only have 200-300mcg FA) and then take another plain FA tab on top of that?
That's just a thought though!
Oh and about the expiry thing, I was wondering that myself as some was selling some for cheap on trademe coz they'd expired Aug '10. My mum always said not to worry coz they're just being cautious with the dates that they set, but yeah I guess you'd worry if there's any risk. Sorry that's not much help lol

Megan, there is no need to take a pregnancy vitamin at all as long as you are eating well. I don't take anything apart from folic acid. If you're inclined to not be too careful with what you eat and eat a lot of junk food or preservatives then I think it's definitely a good idea.

Thanks Sal for the link. I think I will just throw them out to be safe. Would rather not take the risk.
Megan, I stopped taking Elevit when I was pregnant at about 6 months pg for memory. I agree with LR that if you have a good diet then you dont really need one, aside from FA that is.
Rach here in Aus, FA isnt subsidised so its actually cheaper to buy elevit (or other pg vit) rather than taking 2 different tablets. Oh and easier to remember

Thanks Sal . I am excited but also a bit scared TBH. But only about how long it might take again. Thinking positive.
