Topic: Mooncup - potential TMI Posted: 09 July 2007 at 2:06pm |
Just read the ECO topic and wasn't sure what a mooncup was so looked it up. A few of you guys use it, how do you find it? LIke it? How many do you own?

Haha waaaayyyyy TMI - can ya tell I've been sensitised to this stuff since childbirth?!?
I've used it for the last few months and find it fabulous. It took a bit of trial and error but well worth it IMO - I was already terribly sick of tampons, don't do pads, and trying to be a bit more eco-conscious.
Love it! Don't feel a thing... empty it twice daily (in shower in morning and at night just wash it in hot water.. or have another shower! It's winter alright! )
You only need one. Just boil it before use (or not, I'm incredibly lazy) and rinse out when you empty it.
At the start of my period I sometimes get leaks as stuff that has already come past the cervix doesn't get absorbed as it would a tampon but if I deal with it in the shower then that is less of a problem.
Anyway, can't rave enough.

My question is, why does it usually make your period lighter? That makes me a bit nervous. (Thanks Kona!)

Have used it 3 months so far. I loved it although I found I leak a bit in the beginning. (might be that I still need practice inserting it) Also leaked quite a bit at night. So only using it during the day now.
Definately feel a lot cleaner.

I think Nikki summed up everything so what she said!
As for the why lighter less painful periods there are only theries no concrete reasons.
Thoughts are that you are not stuffing synthetic fibres up your wazoo...another thought is that because the mooncup sits lower there is nothing irritating the cervix.
As I say, only theroies though...all i know is the majority of people I know using mooncups and cloth pads, including myself, really do have lighter, less painful periods.

And yes it does take practice inserting it...if you are getting leaks then it's in wrong and you need to check the postion or run a finger around the outside to check the seal.

I got mine from Greenbeans and it was $55 with free shipping. I think that's about the cheapest you'll get anywhere. Plus you'll be supporting another WAHM!

hmmm... I want to try it because it's THERE begging me to try it and changing it twice a day is a much better option than having to carry tampons around with you only to have your daughter rumage through your bag and hand you one at the most inappropriate times

Don't you love that! .
What a fantasic idea, I had never heard of these before. I don't use pads and hate tampons.
Hmmmm, I bet this is one purchase DH is not going to want to know about.

It's made from medical grade silicon... definitely soft. You have to fold it up to put it in.
haha this is so much fun!

haha yeah it does!
P.S. I cut the stem off mine. Did fear it getting lost but have had no such trouble (it can only go so far!)

Another question since you love talking about the moon cup Nikki ... Do you *ahem* stick it in like a tampon or is insertion slightly different?

It is different from a tampon because it sits lower and you need to fold it up to put it in...but if you can do tampons you can do this.
I find it more comfy to put mine in while in the shower and more of a squatting postion unlike tampons.
