I personally found them to be crap. Most people love or hate them.

The PUL (outer fabric) was of really poor quality with hundreds of really tiny holes but made the pee seep straight through onto clothing. I found that with all 8 that I had bought and they were a variety of colours and 2 different sizes so I think there is a reason they are so cheap.

Their hemp inserts on the other hand are brilliant. Can't say I've tried the bamboo ones

I use these - mostly bamboo, but a few of the originals too. I found initially we had a few leaks, but that was partly my inexperience (getting them done up properly, sitting flat etc) and also due to them not having been washed much. Now, it's been so long I can't remember when they last leaked and they last for hours! Though the bamboo does take a long time to dry.

We use them as part of a mixed stash and find them fine as a daytime nappy!
The rise is a little bit low and they are quite slim through the crotch but those are the only negatives I have about them.
They never leak unless I've left them on too long and are very good at containing poo.
I use them with the PP trifold insert and either BKT, microfibre, or hemp insert and all work well.
Not my favourites but definitely a good, middle of the road nappy.

I haven't tried kushies. There's loads of other nappy options out there if you dont' want to fork out a high price for them. Trademe is good if you look on there all the time you can pick up 2nd hand bumgenius for example for much cheaper than retail

I find kushies horrible. Don't bother.

There are quite a few simple NZ made pockets that are cheap - Wigglebums, Tweedles, Baby Harmony (Cheap still?), Joel-Eze to name a few

New pea pods are now bamboo - the other one has been discontinued.

Compared to other cloth nappies, their life span is POOR. I had 1 in rotation with about 18 other nappies stretch left. They may be cheap but there is good reason for that.

Kushies can be good if you add a stay dry liner like microfleece to them. Otherwise they are a good trim fitting nappy, easy to use and quick drying.

I have a hire kit and trial packs available so you can try out the likes of the Kushies, Joeleze, Bebop etc.

I never had any probs with the hemp Peapods we had for the gremlins, I had 10 of them at one stage. Have bought a bamboo one to try for baby but obviously haven't tried it yet. I was tempted to get a couple of the hemp ones when I saw them in the Baby Factory for $15 the other day tho.

are they still $15?

i used them alot when the kids were smaller but then moved onto baby harmony because i'm a 'colour snob'

a peapod was my first cloth nap actually and i loved it. had 6 in my stash at one stage. it seems you either love them or hate them....personal preference. i'm not sure what the new bamboo ones are like, but the other ones seem to be on the larger scale for sizing so definately start in sz sml

the only other nappy i'd recommend in the same price range is joel-eze......but i think she's updated her pattern so don't know if that came with a price update too?

Apparently the bamboo pea pods are meant to be pretty good.

I have the Joel ezes for $28 plus insert $6

Bebops are $29 including insert - these are one of the cheaper nappies available.

Greer is in a peapod for overnight at the moment. I havent had any problems with it. I like that I can fit quite a bit of stuffing in there, and just use it with a few microfibre inserts.

both my peapods leaked

If you get the seconds from baby harmony (if they still have them??) they are about the same price and I think one snap is in the wrong place. It makes no difference at all and they are great nappies.

Bumgenius might be twice the price but they are a one-size nappy so you would get more wear out of them than a Pea Pod. The new V3s are supposed to be excellent and even come with an extra newborn insert for when using on the tiny setting. I have a few of the Cotton Babies inserts that come with a BG and they're really absorbent. I also read the results of an absorbency test on a US website and Cotton Babies one-size inserts come out top for microfibre.

You could also consider that if you go for something like a Fuzzi Bunz ($29 incl insert) you can resell them and get good money back as everyone knows the brand and they seem popular on TM. I sold my mediums and got over 75% back!

We've used peapods since Caleb was 4 weeks old and find they work fine. I haven't used anything else though. The Baby Factory are pretty good at exchanging them if you have any problems, we had one with a faulty snap but other than that no issues with leaks. We are just starting to use a booster overnight with bamboo.

I second what Rach said about the Baby Harmony seconds, she sells them ridiculously cheap, the gremlins have one each and I bought 3 for baby and you can't tell what the fault in them is.
