Oh boy, I'm not telling how much I have put on either Let's just say it sounds like LOTS to me!

Cola, a doula is someone who is trained to help you through labour, delivery and after you've had bubs. Sometimes it's described as "mothering the mother." They're not trained midwives (although some are) and they don't give you medical care, it's more having another person "on your side" and who gets to know you beforehand and then is there with you right through it all.

The main reason I am thinking about getting one is because we're overseas and there's no way I want to have my Mum waiting round for me to go into labour! Besides, I'm not really that keen on having her in there with me Also, here in Singapore your "LMC" is always an obstetrician and then once you go to hospital you have the hospital midwives and nurses looking after you. So I like the idea of having someone around the whole time who won't change shifts etc. And they are trained to give breastfeeding advice etc afterwards too, and I get a couple of home visits from the people I will probably go through.

Ooh and another bonus - I just found out that my hospital gives you a discount if you have a doula - excellent

pomikiwi, how funny that your baby moves when you cook DH put loads of different music on last night and you should have seen the look on his face from some of the kicks he was getting! He hadn't felt any of the REAL big ones till then

I will be like AuntieSarah and Kiwisj and won't say how much I have gained... somtimes I get a bit upset about it but will just have to work it off after Feb.

I was suppose to have a midwife appt this morning but she was busy delivering a baby so I am booked in for next week now, was looking forward to hearing the heartbeat again!

I heard today that someone's baby died today that was due in December... really made me feel upset and I was paranoid all day... I mean it shows that anything can happen.

I made a huge gateaux for morning tea today (we take turns) and it turned out perfect and was gone so fast... was very proud of myself... esp since I had to stay up late last night waiting for it to cool!

Mel&Kel - that's horrible news, doesn't bear thinking about!

Has anyone else started up antenatal classes? I start tomorrow.

Mel&Kel that is really sad news. Thats such a long time to be carrying a baby to loose it.
We start our antenatal classes on the 3rd of November.
Went to see a friend and her 3 week old baby today. Such a cruisy wee thing, very cute and laid back. Thank goodness I have ordered one like that!
Sleep well everyone

Mel&Kel, that is absolutely tragic. I just can't imagine what they must be going through.

Cola - I'm not doing traditional antenatal classes - just the hypnobirthing classes which I started last week. It covers everything we need to know (except all the horror stories, which I'm not too good at handling)

I put on 20kg with my last pregnancy ! Although, I lost 15kg in the first week as it was all fluid, baby and placenta, so that wasn't so bad...

Enjoy your long w/e AuntieSarah - soooo jealous! I'd love to look forward to a long w/e, but there's no more of those BH's over here from now on. Doh!

That's awful news about that lady's loss Mel&Kel especially at such a late stage, it just shows that nothing is guaranteed, and you just have to take each day/week as it comes. Poor lady

Your gateaux sounds delicious, can you post it in the food recipes for us?

I've been doing some baking on and off like chocolate afghans and chocolate cake, and am definitely getting more of a taste for cakes and biscuits as time goes on...find myself continually snacking, as baby must be sapping all the food from me and making me hungry! Lol!

DH brings me a slice of fruit cake home every Wed, as his work gets some delivered, so that's really yummy, and today it's Wed over here, so have that to look forward to when I get home!!!

I made an apple crumble on Sun night for DH and I, which I haven't made in a while, so quick and easy and really yummy, and there's still some left in the fridge, amazingly! and there's still some cooking apples left over, so will stew them up so we can have on our breakfast cereals, fab!

My antenatal classes don't start until 12th Jan, so got ages to go before those start, so will probably only get to attend 4 classes before baby arrives, but they've told me everything should be covered within that time anyway.

The 'doula' person sounds good for you kiwisj. I'd do the same if I was in your situation, good idea!

Does anyone else feel baby move at lot after going to the loo in the night? Every night without fail when I go to the loo and come back to bed, baby is really active - last night I must have felt @ 10-15 kicks before it settled back down! Pretty cool though.
I don't know if it's the fact I've emptied by bladder and it gets woken by the noise and/or extra room, or whether it's because I sometime have a small milk or OJ drink afterwards!

My friend said with her baby, she used to get kicks at @ 3 in the morning. All good!!

Two Shoes I been attempting a bit of baking too. Getting better at biscuits but cakes... needs alot more work on those!! Find myself snacking more too.
My baby always seems to love having a play after I go to the toilet at night. Probably finds it has more room after being woken up.
The baby was doing some crazy moves when I first went to bed last night that made the bottom of my tummy roll like waves very strange feeling
Have another scan at the hospital this afternoon so hopefully the baby can stay still long enough for the sonographer can see what they need to see
Have a good day everyone

Oh Mel&Kel how devastating to loose your baby that late in your pregnancy. That lady must have been in her 3rd tri.
This makes me extra pleased I can finally feel the baby kicking, because as long as I feel her every day I know she's still doing allright.
So much to worry about, and we're only pregnant.

Febbabe, I hope your scan went well.
I'm definately a lot more hungry as well. I think a lot about baking, but I don't really get around to doing much. My limited cooking skills seem to have leaped backwards. The cake I attempted in the weekend was stuck in the tin. The foolproof quiche wasn't exactly foolproof, and on Tuesday I couldn't even manage to boil an egg, and I tried 3 times! Surely there was something wrong with these eggs.
Tonight I just put a pizza in the oven, easy and pretty guaranteed to turn out fine.

My baby seems to be all over the place, one moment I feel her really low down, then she's on my bladder (not so comfy), and the all of the sudden she's way up at my belly button, sometimes left sometimes right. It looks like she's getting a lot more exercise that me these days. Oh, and yes night time seems to be a favorite time.

That's interesting Febbabe and Ella that you notice baby being active during the night also! It's all so intriguing isn't it?

Febbabe hope your baby co-operates for the sonographer today! Yeah my baby does that strange slow rolling movement in my lower abdomen as well on occasion, and Ella: the same thing happens with me, baby moves one side, then the next it's kicking the other side, and down low and mid-stomach, I can't work it out! I just wonder whether it's upside down or sidewards positioned!

If only we had a little periscope to see what was happening in there, it would be very bemusing! Lol!

My sweet tooth is definitely there for cakes and biscuits, although DH had more of the chocolate cake than me the other week! - that's his favourite!

I asked my boss today if I could work 1 hour less on a Thurs and Fri, as I get increasingly more tired as the week goes on, so he's going to speak to HR about it, but I'm sure it won't be a problem, as rather than finishing work at 6pm, I'll finish at 5, that last hour can be a real killer I find! and if you're tired, you really can't put your mind at it to work effectively anyway, and I find I've been getting a bit more impatient!

How's everyone else getting on with their working week?

Anyone going to watch the new James Bond movie when it comes out next Fri. We've got tickets for 1st Nov with a friend, so looking forward to that.

Yay, Friday tomorrow and another w/end to look forward to! Hooray!

I've been thinking exactly the same thing!!!!!
I'd just love to see how she moves in there. And surely she's using more bodyparts (elbows, head, bum) to bump me, cause if it's just the feet she'd be destined to be an olympic gymnast.

We're looking forward to seeing James Bond too. (mmmm, I'm drooling already). I'm jut not sure when it's out here. Oh, and I'm slightly worried if I can sit through an entire film without going to the toilet.

Hehe Ella I had the same concern the other day about lasting a whole movie without a toilet stop, managed it tho.
The baby wasn't very cooperative yesterday and its bottom was buried right down in my hip so they couldn't get a good look at the bottom of the spine. The Specialist was happy tho and we don't need to go back for another scan. Once the baby is born the Specialist will check it over and it may need an ultrasound of the back. The baby is breech at the moment which is why I have been feeling so much movement low down. Lovely to see the baby again. It pulled what look very much like the fingers at one stage so that gave us all a laugh!
Thank goodness for Friday! Happy long weekend everyone

I'm shattered today, went on a huge walk this morning with my friend but kept getting a stitch right on the bottom right hand side of my belly.
I then put my DD to sleep and lay down for just a second and woke up half an hour later. I've got friends coming for dinner and need to do all the house work too Need some extra energy from somewhere.

I'm so fasinated about what baby gets upto inside, it's just amazing. Wish we had see through bumps, hehe!

Has anyone had their glucose screening test yet??

I just had mine today

The drink is ok, just has a yuck after taste haha

I just hope my results are ok.

The midwife made me do it earlier to see if everything was ok...

When i went in the lady asked how far along i was so i said 22weeks and she was like oh good, just your hardly showing so i thought you might say you were 5weeks... haha.

Heres me thinking i looked huge haha.

But apperently not so.

Aithne, how long does it take to get your results back? I think they'll do mine at my next appt, but not sure ... nothing's been mentioned yet!

pomikiwi - know how you feel with the "putting your head down just for a second" becoming 30 mins or even an hour! I lay back on the couch yesterday afternoon, just to be more comfy reading my book and next thing you know it's dark and I haven't even started cooking yet I also get that stitch kinda feeling if I walk too far too quickly .. amazing how things are getting so much more difficult - and still 3 months to go!

febbabe - glad your appt went well and the specialist is happy with how things are looking

I'm all pleased with myself this morning .. been out the supermarket already and got lots of stuff for all the baking I want to do this weekend. My muffin trays have been getting a good workout recently!

I'm also fascinated by what the bub's getting up to. It's really bad though - my Ob has an US in his office so for $30 extra I can have a peek every 4 weeks (or every visit) .... so hard not to!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone

kiwisj - Um im not sure, she didnt tell me. Just said that the results would go straight to my midwife, so i assume she will ring me. If i havent heard within the week i think i will give her a ring.

Wow how lucky to have a chance to see baby that often,,, how can you not take up the chance haha

Im quite gutted cos i thought i would get a growth scan in the 30oddweeks but my midwife said no, that only happens if something is wrong or if they need to check something with baby.

So apparently my last 19week scan was my last time to see baby before he is born :( :(

Has anyone else been told this??

Yeah I think here it's standard just to have a 13 week scan and a 20 week scan. We're getting an extra one at 28 weeks but that's only because they couldn't look at all the anatomy (the feet!) because of the way baby was sitting.

Wow kiwisj - tempting huh! My midwife is not too keen on scans so there's no chance of us being tempted by a scan every month!

I've got such sore feet, we went to the A&P show today (first time I've ever been) there was so much stuff to get around! I got quite sunburnt though, silly me. Fortunately I had the brainwave of asking the St Johns people if they had sunblock about halfway round - otherwise I'd be a total lobster I'm sure!

I'm going for another scan in about 4 weeks to make sure baby is growing like he should be - only cos he is on the lower side of average for my dates. It could be that he is going to be a small baby (please!!!!) , long and skinny or he's just a bit slower than normal at packing on the weight. I'm not worried as both of our mothers had small babies and his heartbeat is strong & steady, just looking forward to seeing him again!!
My know it all SIL had a scan at 35 weeks to get an idea of predicted birth weight but I think that it's an "extra" that you have to pay for yourself unless your MW thinks its necessary.
We move this weekend - yay, have been resisting the nesting urges until we get into the other house, so can let loose next week!!
Have a great weekend ladies!

hi,
had my first antenatal class last night. It really was a lot of fun - lots of jokes and laughs. It was great to meet other people in the same state. One lady is due in 8 weeks and the rest scattering up to March.

I'm considering changing midwife because mine is rude and unfriendly and I don't feel comfortable with her. Funny thing was, we met a couple considering the same thing and we ended up having the same midwife!   I don't know how I'll go getting another midwife in Wellington, does anyone have any recommendations!

New hospital! - So stoked that baby will be born in the new Wellington hospital birthing area - sounds very flash!

Enjoy the weekend!
