Topic: Blocked ears/Headaches/....sigh Posted: 29 January 2009 at 9:26am |
Anyone other pg ladies getting these?? My eyes have been blocking and unblocking continuously from about 12/13 weeks....and the last few weeks the headaches have started again too . My mw says it's most likely normal pg 'stuffiness' that cause both but aaargh is there anythign I can do to get them to go away?! I've tried ear candling which was quite good) and now have some naturopathic ear drops which are also quite good..just have to remember to take them lol.
As for the headaches, my mw says they're prob stress and/or tension ones as they're ususally- but not always- at the back of my head/neck area. I've had to succumb to taking panadol once but I really want to avoid drugs if at all poss. I attend pg yoga once a week but guess I could practise that more at home and see if that helps?
Am also still having faint nausea....not the spewy variety, more the my tummy gets really full really quickly variety and breathing is becoming a little more hard work IYKWIM? Like stuff is getting squashed up (I know that's exactly what's happening too...just the feeling is weird and uncomortable!). My BP is low/normal and everything else so far suggests great health.
I don't mean to whinge as I am thrilled to bits to be pg, just wondered if anyone else was or has gone through the same thing and some coping strategies?
TIA.

Argh - yes me too!! I could almost have written your post!
I tend to get blocked ears (more the left one than the right) most afternoons - it's so annoying! Thankfully it doesn't seem to last too long though - maybe an hour or so each day.
I get the headaches too - but they're a lot better than they were since I went to physio. (I had a neck injury ages ago and finally did something about it. He loosened my neck up a lot and it really helped.)
And ditto on the nausea / fullness. I REALLY need to stop eating my normal portion sizes. I've always had a big appetite, but these days it's just not worth feeling full - I get SO uncomfortable. It's no fun to have to lie on the couch groaning after dinner...
Sorry - I don't have any remedies - but it's good to know you're not the only one aye!

You should def go see a good chiropractor - it will help with the stiffness and the ears! Chiro care is fantastic for pg women

Also a massage - esp a head massage or prob even a facial which would help clear sinus probs also could help. I know of acupressure points but it is very hard to put into words on comp . Also at chemist you could try "Olbis Oil" it is a mixture of oils and is quite strong but I have found a drop just on my collar or tissue etc helps a lot.

Josica- sorry you're going through the same thing but also glad IYKWIM? lol That full slightly sick feeling is horrible, I never eat heaps in one sitting anyway and now it seems I can't even do that grrrr.
Great ideas about a chiro and massage..I keep thinking a good massage would help but then I see the price and think yikes! I finish my p/t job soon and am being so careful watching money! However if it helps then maybe I need to think of it as an investment rather than a luxury?!

Make sure you drink heaps of water!
I started getting headaches in the 2nd tri (I normally rarely have headaches), and I noticed that if I kept my fluids up I'd be fine. On the days that I didn't drink enough, bang, headaches were back. (And they're difficult to get rid of once they're there)
Unfortunately I've had bouts of nausea all through my pg. I even started vomiting in the 2nd tri (I didn't in the 1st). I've always wondered though if it had to do with exhaustion as well, as it tended to get way worse at the end of the week, whereas it would subside in the weekend, when I wasn't working.
Anyway, good luck!

Second the drinking the lots of water. I too have been getting headaches, and blocked ears, as well as the sick after eating feeling... I try to eat slower, and take longer with my meals, that seems to work sometimes. For some reason, both headaches and ears get better if I am drinking lots too. And yup, gets worse when tired.
