Bowie - god sounds like arse working in a kitchen, you never have nice stories to tell about work

amme - you poor thing doll, this is the last kind of thing you need to worry about at a time like this. I hope everything works out for the best for you and DH xx

Minxy - breastfeeding classes sound like a good idea, my MW mentioned something about these i think... i can never remember. It's pretty hard going to get started initially (from what i've heard) so i think a bit of 'coaching' will defiantly help!

Have finally figured out the self timer on my camera! here's a wee pic

P.S I'm being totally healthy today and eating mandarin segments.... wait - mandarin flavored lollies are still fruit right?!

Chikky - OMGoodness - how hot are you (& I LOVE your bra - very sexy!).

islandgirl - halloumi cheese yum grilled on the bbq YES! I think we're not supposed to eat cold 'soft' cheeses (heated is ok) but I know of heaps who have & nothing happened. Up to you doll!

amme - tell DH to start dropping his 1 page CV around Feilding, Palmy & country schools (you will be surprised how many schools need a floating teacher by term 4 for classroom release or to open a New Entrant class). I agree being a male is a huge advantage to get your foot in the door of a school as there just aren't enough guy teachers, and if he's a great teacher then he'll find something in no time!

bowie: your boss is a complete arse - roll on 8 weeks I say for your sanity!

Try La Leche League for help. They run informal meet ups around the country for new mums & mums to be (so I've heard). Here's the LINK

minxy - 12kgs you big fat hippo...NOT!!!!

I think I'm up to 17 or 18 kgs now...you girls are mere amateurs when it comes to preggy weight gain! I am the wallowing, beached, hoist needing Queen of the Preggo's! Now bring me some decadent edibles...

Talking up a storm today ladies

so sorry about your DH amme - last thing you need! Hope something pops up soon.

bowie - sounds like they have it in for you?

Chikky - yet another reason why I'm not in a hurry to add my photo too many sexy ladies in here!

no idea about weight gain (I'm avoiding the scales ), but my butt is expanding at the same rate as my boobs, so that added with me looking at least 4 weeks ahead of where I was last time = blimp

Re: cord banking - I looked into it last time, but TBH, the possible disease situations that would allow you to use it are few and far between (it would have to be something the baby wasn't born with, as the cells in the cord blood would also have the disease), and something that stem cells would be helpful with..... so all up not really worth the cost. I know that if your child did get ill and you could use it, it would be priceless and you'd be so grateful, but like most of you, we just can't justify the cost.

It also means I couldn't have my waterbirth! (plus your MW has to undergo special training for collection if they haven't already, or you need a special collection person to be present at the birth).

starting to feel a tad uncomfortable, but it doesn't help that I sat on my butt all of yesterday and very late/early into the night finishing off an assignment! All done now, thank goodness, so just lesson planning to think about for next week

Wannabe, thats only cuz you're due first (i think??) and you have TWO inside!!! And i have the mental image of you reclining on a sofa with someone feeding you grapes.

I feel like the gigantor though!!! I'm pretty sure my thighs are going to start touching soon, right at the top.

And kitchens arent all bad. They're hot and you stand up all day and you get yelled at and you don't get to eat or drink adequetly, but you meet amazing people, learn so much (i now speak spanish and german resonably well thanks to kitchens), and god knows why, because its a sh*t of a job but i can't imagine doing anything else...

having said that, will start having to do something else very soon - can't raise baby and be a chef at the same time, it isnt practical.

Wannabe – have fun this weekend looking after the Male folk – I hope they have their turn another time!
Islandgirl – I hear you about antenatal classes – I think I have way to high expectations of them – I think they will answer everything…maybe not!

Amme – it is so odd that a teacher would come back so late in the year – Does your DH have to write the reports – I feel that is a totally unfair situation!! Some people are just so damn selfish and need a kick!!! What about the kids too!!

Chikky – you have an amazing bump!! Looking Good!!!

The concept that something /one is in my tummy still freaks me out a bit!!

Cord banking is out for us – money wise – I agree that the govt should help out (can’t remember who said that!)

I have had MS throughout – but the last week it is bad!! I just want to eat something yummy and keep it down!

oh almost forgot - minxy re the BF class. I went to one run at Waitak hospital, and no boobie-baring required It did feel rather silly pretending to feed plastic dolls but was helpful in practising the different holds/positions, plus there were mums with new babies there (and after Nat I went back and was a new Mum ), and that was really helpful - being able to ask them questions, plus just the whole thing of normalising BFing in a room of other women.

Naw ChikkyD, your bump looks like mine did with Ty

I never did breastfeeding classes, I just wish that someone had warned me it can hurt at first.
I always find that I get them latched better once I get home from the birthing unit, so I don't have them constantly telling me how Im doing it right or wrong

hey girls....

Bowie - count down those weeks! not long to put up with that idiot boss now :) soooo not what you need though.

ChikkyD - gorgeous pic - thinking I might have to take one with my belly out now it's really popped!

Re breastfeeding classes - I've seen mamalicious classes advertised round wellington anyone done those? I'm quite keen to do one - it seems like it can be pretty tricky to get going?!

Who can fill us in on what actually is covered in antenatal classes? I had an impression you'd get a general overview of 'baby stuff' - but now I'm starting to think maybe it's all just about the birth?

I want to do a bfing class also but I cant seem to find any in manawatu so far. I will contact lll and see if there are any.

Can trained secondary teachers work at primary level? Cause there will be no relief at secondary schools as they do internal only once seniors leave.

The teacher who is coming back has unfortunately also got money issues and her husbands job hours have been cut back and I think she was off with her 4th child so I dont blame her for coming back, its just crap timing.

amme:

The Palmerston North La Leche League meets monthly on Monday mornings at 9:45am. Here's the Palmy info/contacts for you HERE

I know of a few mums & mums-to-be in Wellies & Aucks who just rock along to their local meetings & don't actually pay the joining fee of $45 per year.

breastmates.co.nz also offer advice & tips HERE

I think high school teachers can work in primary - I have relieved in high schools and am only primary trained - surely it would work the other way. Maybe there is something on the teachers council website. We have had high school teachers come in for day to day relieving - if you don't find out Ilet me know and I will ask the office lady at school on Mon - she knows everything!!

Nicole - Myself and Queenbee both did cord blood banking with our first born March/April 2009.  I got my kit last month for this baby.  If you do think your going to do it PM me or queenbee and we can refer you and you will get a year free after your first year ($200 saving).

Maternity Leave - My office shuts down over xmas for 2 weeks and opens again on 10th Jan (my due date), but I'm not offically going to start my leave till the 17th so if baby doesn't come on time I'll work the extra week to help train someone.  Last time I was 11days over due.  I finshed work 2 weeks before due date and was bored out of my tree.  I even babysat a friends friends 2 1/2 year old that I'd never meet, the 4 days leading upto due date.

Weight gain and bumps - I haven't gained anything yet.  I am so jealous of you girls and your beautiful perfect bumps.  I still don't have much of a bump,  I only start looking pregnant in the afternoon for some reason, baby comes out of hiding.

amme:

Whoops meant to say before...when I was at Palmy t-coll we were told that primary trained can teach up but secondary trained can't teach down (unless its a specialist position e.g., P.E, Food Tech, Dance & Drama etc). That is why I'm primary trained but can teach Dance & Drama through to Y13 as I have a performing arts degree also. But I'd get your DH to ask around about that as that may have changed in the past few years???

What is his subject/s that he teaches at the mo?

Chikky- HOOOOOTTTT!!! Why aren't you chubb-ing up? Very unfair....you're looking fabuolous. Yay for you! :) :) :)

Fletch I am so sorry you are still suffering MS. God, it must be making you fed up hun. Hang in there x

Wannabe - are you taking BF classes for twins? I'm assuming they give you additional info and support? And maybe some sort of flying fox type contraption that attaches to the ceiling so you can shoot the twins around the room to DH or back to you, depending on which one needs feeding, changing, etc at the time!!!! ;)

Yes, looking gorgeous ChikkyD!!! Nice bra too!

Yep Paula, that's right we also did cord blood banking for Coop, and will do it for this one, which reminds me I'd better get my A into G and organise the kit.

How exciting all the antenatal classes starting up, I really enjoyed mine, will miss doing that this time round.

Sorry to hear you are still getting MS Fletch, how awful.

So sorry to hear about your DH's job, Amme. Hope something crops up for him soon.

Not too long now for you to put up with that boss of yours, bowie

I've always wondered what they talked about, do you get to "birth" those dolls ?
I never had antenatal classes and sometimes I'm tempted to go,preferably to one where the instructor is very "natural birth " orientated and shock them with stories of how im planning an epidural and how I might even use formula.
Just for a bit of fun

Hi everyone, well I had to work 5 days this week (4 days only until 3.30) instead of my usual 1 day on, one day off, three days on as two girls in my team managed to get leave the same week so boss asked me to work on my off day (last time I worked 5 days in a row was mid 2008 before Ethan came along).  Anyway I've also had a terrible cold and due to the other girls being away, have been extra busy at work so am feeling rather exhausted and should probably be in bed now but oh well!  Thankfully it was a one off, back to my normal working "week" next week and then I go on holiday the following week (staying with friend in Nelson)

Its been quite interesting reading what everyone has been saying about routines for the first 3 months, Young-Mum-to-be, you seem so wise, I wish I had had your wisdom when my little boy was born, I naively thought he would know to follow the suggested routines in all the books and when he didn't I became quite stressed out,so stressed out in fact that I got insomnia and had to take sleeping pills for a few months (went to bed early, took a pill, dH would bottle feed bubs at 11 ish then I'd do the next feed at 3 ish,  go back to bed and lie awake until the next time bubs woke!

This time I know what to expect and will try and relax and just go with the flow for the first few months.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!
