Hi all, sorry didn't get to respond to posts earlier, I'm now taking pills 3 times a day in prep for my egg transfer (thaw) blood test Thursday, so we'll see if my body is doing what it's meant to be for the next stage, I'm hoping so, as every time I over stimulate on bloods or whatever it puts me behind for months!

Good luck Poppyp - it is frustrating when our bodies don't play ball. Keep us posted on how it goes this week Fx

Yay! This forum is just what I needed to find tonight (read: emotional roller coaster!). I am based in Queenstown. TTC for 16 months. I am 38 and partner is 40. Have been on public since last October. Have had all bloods and HSG done at Kew in Invercargill. Can't understand why we haven't been referred to a fertility specialist yet? My partner thinks we should be going private as he thinks we will get seen earlier? I am in line for hysteroscopy / lap to find out why I have one blocked tube. To be honest I just want clomid or ivf or something to get us going- it seems we are just pushed from one waiting list to another (5 months for first consult, 5 months for HSG, 5 months for hysteroscopy... And then who knows for next step?!)
So... GP has referred us to fertility associates in Christchurch (?!) so going to see her tomorrow to ask her to refer us to Barbara. Big question is ... Do we ask for private or public referral??
Urgh... Feeling so blah over it all :( and no specialist to talk to!!

Hey I'm probably too late for this but I would go private to get the ball rolling!

Hi Epic Traveller! Not too late- thanks :) going to a private appointment on Tuesday with fertility associates from Christchurch (appt is in Queenstown), as I was told there were no truly private options avail in otago (unsure if that's true?!) will be asking what all our pathways and options are at this point. Hope to get something out of it for $270. I see you are down for IVF this month- hope it goes smoothly for you.

Hi Trying, just read your post there is another private option in Otago. I am seeing Barbara Richards from Otago Fertility Services privately, no referral just phoned and made appointment to see her. I live in Arrowtown, I've had two consults with Barbara in Queenstown. Since then I've been communicating regularly with the wonderful nurses based at the Dunedin Hospital fertility clinic where Barbara is also. I haven't been on any long waiting lists for tests (HSG private in Dunedin Mercy Hospital 2 week wait)and the IVF wait is not the same as public. I recommend this over FA. I use to live in Auckland and paid to have a consult with FA, it was early on in our TTC journey and we found them pushing for us to commit to IVF at that first visit. It made us feel that it was more a business wanting money. We went to another specialist in AKL for a 2nd opinion and like Barbara he also suggested other steps before IVF. Since moving here we have tried 2 IUI's both have worked initially so was worth trying rather than going straight to IVF. Not sure about FA IVF cost versus OFS but IUI was approx $1,300 cheaper than FA. I had my 2nd MC in March picked up by a scan in Qtown, within an hour Barbara had called me and so had one of the nurses.
I'm interested to know how you got on with Fertility Associates?

Hi Tulip
Thanks for your reply! The FA meeting was ok - I was frustrated for a while during the meeting as he wasn't telling me what I didn't already know about fertility… and all I could think was I was paying him for nothing! But we ended up coming out with Clomid and a few other tests to be done. So, I am Day 4 on Clomid today, and have a scan tomorrow ($255!) to see what has happened so far… still on waiting list for hysteroscopy / laproscopy to see why R tube is blocked, and FA suggested we stay on this list.
Weird - my GP told me Barbara only did public appointments and I double questioned her and she was certain only public :/ urgh. Its such a jigsaw to fit together.
Will be interested to follow your journey… we have been TTC for 18 months now, but really only just on the public system now.

Hi Trying, glad to hear your appointment with FA went well and that they were able to suggest some more tests.
How long do you have to wait for a Lap?

How are you ladies? I have been hanging out in the ttc 12 month thread but wondered how this group was getting on. I am picking up my drugs for ivf this week and starting the week after. Pleased to be doing something again but a huge part of me is petrified of negative outcomes and knowing more about my eggs
Would be great to hear how others are getting on

I have a scan tomorrow and hopefully IUI on Friday. I spoke with OFS nurses about meds to help prevent another MC but there's nothing other than aspirin although if we were trying IVF Barbara would have me on the Colorado protocol which includes steroids, can't help wondering why we can't try some of those meds with IUI.
How long is the long protocol?

Gosh hope you feel ok on the meds. Have you explained to your teenager what's going on? My daughters now 13 but I didn't tell her about my 2 pregnancies and MC. Was tricky when she had to drive 3 hrs to Dunedin with us for IUI as I didn't want her to know why we were there. Luckily she's away so won't have to travel with us for latest IUI.
The timing for this IUI is also a bit off, wish OFS did IUI's in the weekend. My scan yesterday was okay but I think Friday will be too soon for IUI and Monday might be too late. I guess that's a benefit of IVF over IUI, the timing is precise.

Good luck for tomorrow I was unsure of the timing of one of my iuis too Yes I hope I am okay on the meds too but will just have to ride it out We are lucky as we are so close to the hospital so don't need to tell dd anything other than when I had my lap I have already said I am taking a week off in Aug to use some holiday up and work on my sewing projects so that should cover it

Hey girls, don't know if you have seen on the Fertility NZ page but there's a new support group starting in Dunedin next week. All the details are on the website. I'm seriously thinking about going! Would be keen to hear if anyone else is too!

Hey epic I had seen that but still not sure about meeting others face to face! I hope to have ec next week so the timing might not suit anyway. Might be keen to meet the next time if things don't work out Let me know what it is like if you do decide to go Hugs

Hey icecream - I'm exactly the same - Dunedin is SO small like that. But at the same time something like this would be really cool so I'm keen to support it! Torn :-/

Hi ladies
I have an IVF question so thought I'd see if anyone in this forum can help. I've started my IVF jabs to down regulate, does anyone know if AF comes earlier than planned do they have to bring egg collection day forward or is it all controlled by meds?
