Hello all, I just thought that I would bust in on this forum as we're much up the same creek. We've been through all the pre-referral stuff down at Kew and have just had our first appointment booked with OFS for March. I very much doubt we'll qualify for public (we're both over 40, though I could be a grey area) but we'll go to the appointment just to see. If we don't qualify our journey stops there. We can't afford that kind of money. How's it all going MJC121?

I am really excited to see this topic. I myself have unexplained fertility and am seeing Barbara at OFS. Had my appointment for the 'next stage' a couple of weeks back. We are doing some tracking followed by IUI and clomid (if required). We have been really lucky in that with living in Dunedin we have been able to make 'cancelled' appointments at short notice. We have had all the tests but nothing stands out as to why we aren't getting pregnant other than not being in the same area at the same time (husband does shift work). Hearing from other people in our situation really helps.

Welcome to both of you! Victoria, hope you do qualify for public through some little loophole!
Annie-Lou, I'm seeing Barbara as well. Saw her yesterday and she has said our best chance is IVF so we're seeing her again next month to book that in for the end of the year and I'm on clomid until then to hopefully get us a miracle!
Did you guys see the ad for a Dunedin Infertility group on the noticeboard in the waiting room? I've been toying with it but Dunedin is just so small it's hard to know who else could turn up there.
Annie-Lou how did you get on the cancellation list?
MJC how are you getting on? And ThistleFern?

LOL I wouldn't say it was a cancellation list but it seems I have been at the right place at the right time for when the phone rings seeing if we can make a last minute appointment. Just lucky probably. Oh yes I remember my Dad saying if you are doing something wrong someone will spot you - probably this comment applies for this sort of thing as well - if you don't want people to know, the town gossip will be there. I haven't told any of my family we are going to see a specialist - probably because no one else in my family has ever had any problems. On my first visit Barbara asked if I wanted to join a group to help us go through it and I thought it was a little soon but I think talking to other couples at the same point as you really helps.

| This is so true! I'm technically from Mosgiel which is even worse for that sort of thing. Yeah we aren't planning on telling family we are seeing specialists, but my closest friends know and my DH has another couple of friends who he knows are having trouble TTC so he's going to talk to them. Family is a bit too far for both of us at the moment though! I'm also holding off on joining a physical group, thank god for these forums though!

I was thrilled to see a few more replys on this page too. Hi everyone! Firstly congratulstions Mjc121! We are Dunedin based and like Annie-Lou got a cancelation appointment with Barbara. Got a call on the Friday for the following Tuesday but that was back in October. Had more blood tests and then a scan. Now waiting on a HSG so have to wait on a new cycle (hope it is not a long one) and get it done day 8,9 or 10. OH is all good but as if yet only thing we know is a might have a weird shaped uterus (does not really explain why we can't get pregnant as issue is normally mischarage). Hopefully in a few weeks we will know more and then have a plan too. I never expected this as I had a baby quite young and then spent so many years making sure I would not get pregnant when we ttc I assumed it would be near enough instant like my sister and sister in law and stories from my mum. How long have you guys been trying? Anyone trying to lose a bit if extra weight in the hope that that will help? I am keen to know if anyone here has had an HSG at Dunedin. We also have not told family yet, maybe when we actually know something we might. I feel the same about the support group but this could be ours. Leanabh - how was this big week for you, full of all sorts of emotions I am sure. Looking forward to chatting lots more, this kind of support is great. Have good weekends everyone.

Hi punkin_27, just read that you had an HSG and would really appreciate some info on how you found it. I have had my referal to radiology and am waiting on a new cycle to hopefully get one done next month. Then maybe we will know a bit more. Also if it is not too personal what dud yours show? Thanks in advance

Hi. You might as well put a sign outside your house in Mosgiel!!! I had a HSG in October and it was a little daunting walking into a room of people but they were fantastic. I had a nurse and my husband hold one hand each. They explained everything as they did it and if I needed a moment everyone backed off. I did find it quite painful when they injected the dye (mainly because things weren't in the right spot). I was advised to have some panadol before hand so not sure if this helped or not. Afterwards I did feel quite faint but think this was more psychological than anything. – maybe relief. They did show me the photos and tried to explain things but I think it went over my head. Not the right time after you have gone through that to try and take much in. Barbara called me with the results saying everything looked good which was fantastic. Is your partner okay with you being in pain? My husband was a rock beside me but the nurse said they have had issues with partners not dealing with things properly and they require more medical attention than the person with their legs in the air. We have been trying seriously for almost 2 years but had a ‘year of fun’ before that. I didn’t really think about the whole TTC process until we started. No one in our family has had issues (well on my side anyway) – cousins of mine got pregnant really young and I understand health hasn’t been on my side but thought we would just be one of those normal couples who conceived within the 12 months . Speaking of weight – one thing I haven’t asked OFS is about working out. What are the recommendations? I run to take my mind off things – really clears my head.

Hi Annie-Lou, thanks for the feedback on the HSG, best to know lots and be prepared. Think hubby will be okay - he just hates needles. I had lost weight between seeing our doctor and Barbara and told her it was running that had done it and she was happy enough and encouraged me to lose more. I have figured at least that is something I can work on and it won't do any harm so joined a gym, also swim, bike and run so I don't get bored. It will be 3 years soon for us however my cycles are a bit nuts (28 - 53) and still not sure why, all bloods so far show things are doing what they should be. Do think I ovulate late - had been temping lots and discussed that with Barbara. Hope we don't fall in the unexplained category! I am really holding out on getting an answer and actually being able to 'fix' something. Thanks

Feeling sorry for myself as I have a flu like bug, been sick all weekend and just feel exhausted. Hoping it goes away soon as I am so over it!

Icecream your cycles sound a bit like mine! I'm on clomid to try regulate and I'm hoping for ov this week. I also do a lot of exercise, running and cycling mainly, and gym in between times. Good to know Barbara's good with that!
Gutted you've had a flu, think there's something going around, I wasn't too hot myself last week.
Not much happening in this camp, our next appt with Barbara is the 20th to set a date for IVF, but I've shifted my mindset now to be 'yay we've got clomid' rather than sitting waiting for IVF, think that would have actually driven me mad.
When is your HSG icecream?

Hi ladies,
I have taken 13 Buserelin injections now and will have a blood test Wednesday morning to see if I can move on to the next stage. Fingers crossed everything is as it should be. I will be very nervous.
I have been feeling fine - just very tired. Giving myself the injections hasn't bothered me at all.
I have told very few people about what is going on. My mother knows but not my husbands family. Also a few close friends who have been great.
We have been TTC for 2 and a half years. I started exercising a lot last year after I found out IVF was our only hope. I didn't really need to lose weight but the exercise definitely helped me keep distracted from the waiting... and I felt a lot better about myself when I did lose weight which helped as I was so down about the infertility.
Sorry to hear you have flu icecream. Harder to keep upbeat when you aren't feeling well.
I hope everyone else is doing good.

Hey epictraveller, On day 24 and highly unlikely to get BFP as we have never had one, hope this cycle is short and not 53 days. Actually looking forward to AF arriving to book scan. Has to be done on day 8,9,10 so phone on day 1 and hope to get a slot. Feel rough, got up at 10 and now at 12 I am wrecked am have done nothing but read on sofa and drink! Signed up for a fun run next Monday so hope I can get at least one run in before then or it will be a big shock! I now focus on fitness to keep me sane, would like to lose another 6kg not Barbara was impressed with what I had lost over the year and said to keep doing what I am doing. Do you do OPK and temping or just watch for signs of ovulation? I wish I was one of those women with a clockwork cycle. Is it your first cycle on clomid? Hope you know when ovulation is! Will keep you posted on scan update but great to chat!

Goodness Leana - all go for you! Sorry I missed your previous post, but now very excited to hear how things go for you! I can't believe you were on birth control pills in early Jan and ET isn't till next month! Really hope the blood test goes well - is that to decide when they are doing egg collection?

hi ladies just popping in to say hi, I'm 13 weeks tomorrow can barely believe it. after 11 iuis 2 ivfs and 2 fet we are finally preg. We did two things diff with last round, accupunture for two months leading up to using an amazing lady in gore and another in Dunedin, husband on vitamenz instead of menevit not sure if either contributed but thought I'd mention just in case - we are also I. The unexplained group. Annie your comment made me laugh as my husband is also a shift worker! Leane all the best it's so stressful those days leaving up to and the three days after egg collection. Ice cream I always had a late cycle ovulating on day 22 but as soon as I started accupunture it shifted to day 17 could try that?
All the very best, remember to nig Ofs lots as they are so busy u often get forgotten I'm on a secret Facebook group that s amazing support u can ind link on one of these pages will go look now for u Xx

Mjc, so awesome that your pregnancy is going smoothly! Have you announced yet? Exciting times!!
Icecream I think we cross-posted above! Yup I temp and have just started using OPK's the last couple of cycles as well. I don't always ovulate though so doing this is the only way I can tell if I am or not. Are you temping? Have you taken vitex at all? If you're in a hurry for AF and don't think you're UTD this cycle you could try taking it as it might bring on AF so you can get your HSG faster!

I do temp and have been for a long time but now I am lazy only do from day 12 to when graph shows I have ovulated. Not sure about vitex - have you ever tried it? With this flu thing I maybe need a bit of time before AF comes crashing through! Think I looked to buy it in the shops and could not find it but see it on-line from natures own, might read some more. Anyone tried the saliva microscope fern pattern technique? Also has anyone read? Bump & Grind: An A-Z Survival Guide for When You're Trying to Get Pregnant (Paperback) Genevieve Morton Great chatting
