Hi there!
I've never used cloth from birth before (we didn't discover MCN's until our second baby was 5mths old!) but this time around I've gone a bit mad with nappy shopping and at last count I had about 28 newborn nappies. I have been buying up preloved nappies off Trade Me and The Nappy Network so I could have a good stash of tiny nappies before moving into bigger ones. I have a mixture of fitted nappies (Swaddlebees OV newborns, Kissaluv size 0's & some WAHM nappies) and covers, AIO's (Monkey Doodlez & Swaddlebees) and pocket nappies (Honeychild & Fuzzi Bunz). I plan to wash every 1-2 days, but I have no idea how many I'll go through in a 24hr period so I'll just have to play it by ear. Once these nappies are outgrown I am going to use medium Itti Bitti D'lish as they're both mine & DH's favourite nappy
Are your yo-yo's a one-size nappy? If so you might find them a bit big or bulky on a newborn, depending on your baby's size so it might pay to either have a stash of newborn disposables on hand or buy a few newborn prefolds & covers to tie you over in the first few weeks.
From memory of using disposables on a newborn I think we used to go through around 10-12 nappies per day.
Hope that helps!
Vic xx

We had 15 nappies but sometimes that meant 2 loads a day - just to keep them moving through. As we would wash about 7 each time and have 7 in use. We did fine on this but when we upgraded to bigger sized nappies we got a lot more and have about 30. I wouldn't go too nuts on NB nappies unless you are planning on number 2 as they are little for such a short time. My little one was 5 months when he totally outgrew the size 1 nappies.

OMG Vic!! You have a huge nappy stash now!!
I used prefolds when Sophie was born, and had abour 10 covers and about 40 inners. That was way to many, but it was great to not have to worry about running out. And also great if it was wet and harder to get them dry it didn't matter.
I agree with Vic, if your yoyo nappys are one size you will probably find them a bit too bulky on a NB to start with. I didn't use pockets until Sophie was about 3 months old. If you want to use cloth right from the start it may be worth getting a few small nappies.

I use Fuzzis - and have 18 smalls in stock.
We used disposables for the first 4 weeks and were going through 10 or so a day. At 4wks when we changed to cloth (and never looked back) we had to wash daily. Ariahn is now 3 months old and I wash every second day or at a push can go 2 days without washing but I'm cutting it fine by then.
Wish you all the best!

We had 24 fitteds with Jack and I washed everyday - 12 in use, 12 in the wash. Although I do wonder if I went a little overboard in how often I cahnged him. There is an article on here about cloth nappies and I think they recommend about 16 nappies. I think I will buy prefolds for this baby to use from newborn but as I have the fitteds to fall back on (even though they are a bit bulky on a newborn bum) I think I will go for about 18

I have 12 prefolds/6 covers and around 9 pocket nappies - this allows me to wash every second or third day. I have used cloth on my wee boy since he was 5 days old (now 4 weeks old) and prefolds are my favourite.

We have (at the moment) 8 that fit both kids and about 6 each that only fit that kid, IYKWIM. I wash every night and this is fine, I never run out and can only line dry. If you are prepared to wash everyday then you probably have enough, but if you are anything like me you will keep adding to the stash bit by bit, (I was naughty and bought 3 today ), but again they will fit both kids now.

I had 24 day nappies and that was enough though sometimes it got difficult to get them dry in time for the next wear (Baby was a winter babe). Plus had 4 night nappies. I think I ended up buying another 6 nappies kust to take the stress out of having to get them dry in time. Can't remember when I did that though

I imagine that the medium yoyos will be a bit big on a newborn, but the prefolds should keep you going at least part time.
I don't have any experience yet with new babies in covers but I have ready to use; Bummis & Real Nappies PUL covers (very similar) in NB & S, Motherease Rikki in XS & S, Swaddlebees fleece covers in S & a NB wool soaker. Hopefully I'll get to try them out soon!!!! (come on baby!!)
