Topic: Epilator vs shaving (legs!) Posted: 16 June 2012 at 8:49am |
Has anyone used an epilator/Epilady?? I am considering getting one with Flybuys points but don't know enough about them. Currently I try to just get my legs waxed (but usually have to do top up shaves in between) but an epilator would be cheaper and easier as I would be doing it at home rather than having to find the time for an appointment that fits with the kids etc.
My main question is how often do you have to do it - how long does it last and do you have to wait until the hair is a certain length before you do it again, like you do with waxing? And how long does it take to do your legs?
I'm guessing it hurts less (or at least no more than) waxing but if it's seriously painful let me know!
Any other comments, recommendations, warnings welcome.
Thanks ladies :)

Ugh, I tried one once when I was a teenager, and it was so terrible! I found it so, so painful, but then I haven't waxed my legs, so can't compare sorry. Hopefully someone who has done both will post!

I bought a epilator a couple of years ago, used it a couple of times and never again since!! Why?! It was painful, ended in rash and bumps and didn't grow back any slower so i continue to shave which I prefer :)
Maybe I wasn't using it right lol

I have used one for years and have never gone back to shaving or waxing.
Yeah it isn't comfortable but I have never found it really painful. I do have quite a high pain threshold though. I have other friends who use them no problem as well.

I have one that I use intermittently. Don't find it too painful, certainly no worse than waxing. The main downside for me is that it takes longer than shaving.

I have never used a epilator only waxing and shaving and rather stick to shaving less painful.

I found the epilator pure torture. I have a low pain threshold and prefer going somewhere to have my legs waxed as someone else has control then and I can't wimp out.

I remember having one when I was younger as well & it was torture, but then again I hate being waxed. Just had my eyebrows plucked and had tears in my eyes. Low pain threshold here too (who'd have though I could do birth without pain relief though )

I use a Braun silk epilator, I found it painful the first time but did have super hairy legs. I now find that the hair grows back slower and there is less of it so it only stings a little round the back of my knees. I also use it on my underarms, this is more painful but so worth it.
I do it every couple of weeks, the hair doesn't have to be long, it'll pick up very short hair.
Time wise it is slower than shaving but definately easier than trying to juggle childcare to go and get a wax.
Good luck with your decision!!

I would much rather wax than use an epilator as it is over and done with so much faster!
