Hi all we have a first birthday next Sunday to go to (so long as I don't decide to spontaneously combust that is)

I am trying to think of presents for a little boy. DP keeps saying lets get clothes but I am anti buying clothes for kids presents as you can't be sure of the size and I think toys are a lot nicer.

I was thinking of getting bath time crayons but am having trouble finding them in shops can find them online but don't want to buy online. I also don't want to get something that is just your normal run of the mill gift iykwim. I think a more educational toy or something wooden rather then your plastic toys. Any other ideas for presents or where to get the crayons?

The boy in question is dp's workmates kid. We are friends but I don't think we are extremely close friends.

Any help appreciated!

oOElleOo, going on my 3 boys & the age, I would not do the crayons, he will most likley try eating them & in winter I get my kids out of the bath quickly.

Mine were not walking till over 1yr, & I found sorting boxes, blocks, chuncky cars were good & they loved a wooden train that you put togeter & put blocks on & can pull along. Also if he goes out in a pram alot, pram toys that can hang off it are alway good.

Remember, strong & sturdy as it will get dropped, thrown about & stooden on. Don't forget every toy is an educational toy to a 1 yr old, so they will probally play with the box & wrapping more, hee hee.

Good luck, I love buying baby toys, thats why we have too many or need another baby, lol.

I got my nephew one of those wooden hammer and peg toys where they hammer the pegs into it and then turn it over and start again. He LOVES it (although my sis and BIL didn't to begin with cause he hammered EVERYTHING lol - I'm sure there will be payback for that). Along the 'wooden' theme is the toys with the wire and beads that they thread along - kids seem to love these.

Also as Jazzy said, cars are great cause they are really getting into pushing them along the ground. Fisher price and playskool make some really good (and not too expensive) sturdy cars/buses/planes, they are sure to be cheap in the toy sales that are on ATM.

The pressies that went down well with Jack at his 1st birthday were a hammer and pegs, a wooden trolley with wooden blocks in it and a train with solid blocks that had circus animals inside them (Fisher Price I think). Later once he started walking he loved his Buzzy Bee and still pulls it around the house now
